BACK LATICS AT BOUNDARY PARK (from the club site)

Posted on: Tue 09 Sep 2008

Latics are looking to true blues everywhere to get down to Boundary Park and cheer on their side as John Sheridan's men look to extend their unbeaten start to the new League One season.

Athletic have made an encouraging start to the new campaign and lead the way following four wins from their opening five league games.

There's still a long way to go - but it's a case of the more fans that can get behind the side, the better ahead of this weekend's big game against MK Dons at Boundary Park (Saturday, KO 3pm).

Whether you're a lapsed supporter or a hardcore fan whose mates haven't been to Boundary Park for a while, oldhamathletic.co.uk is urging all fans to make that extra effort to get down Sheepfoot Lane if possible.

This Saturday's match-up looks set to be an intruiging clash, with MK Dons travelling north in decent form under new boss Roberto Di Matteo.

With the club's new e-ticking outlet now up and running via this very website, it's never been easier to get a ticket for a Latics game.

Tickets for the game are on advance sale at the Boundary Park ticket office, with a £2 saving available against matchday prices in all areas. Alternatively, buy online by clicking here.

Mums and dads wishing to bring their kids along will be delighted that under-12s can enjoy 90 minutes of League One action for ONLY £3 in the Detect All Alarms Chaddy End and the Leesfield Developments Stand.

Chief executive Alan Hardy said: "It's been a terrific start to the season - much better than we could have wished for when we saw the opening fixtures.

"With the performances they have given and the results we've earned so far, the lads deserve as much support as we can possibly get into Boundary Park.

"Our fans are our biggest selling tool locally and can have a big impact on attendances.

"Please tell your family and friends how good things have been at Boundary Park recently and get them behind the lads this Saturday."

I don't usually do a straight copy and paste, but let's all get behind this initiative!

Yeh

the grooms an Oldham fan aswell:)

i hope that they have put this in the oldham chron as well,i know its hard to believe in this modern age but not everybody has computers, seeing as we are official media partners so to speak i really hope its in print,so the wider oldham public and anywhere else the paper is sold gets to know about it.

the e-ticketing outlet is also another step in the right direction....but again needs to be advertised so people know about it......

Glad to see the club trying to increase crowds by doing this and hope they dont give up when it doesnt hugely work this saturday - though it should be in the chron, not the official site that stayaways wont/dont read. I wouldnt expect a crowd bigger than what we'd expect. It's still £18/£20 at the end of the day and most people wont pay it when the season's still only in september. Even if it was in the chron, it wouldnt have a big impact on attendances but at least the club couldnt be blamed for a lack of trying.

Even if we might of thought that surely it would of been better PR to say "with a very strong team we were expecting a good start to an exciting season" or something like that. People may read this and think 'oh Oldhams had a lucky start..' and not bother to go. Just an idea like..

I thought you would have pointed out to Ed that it wasn't in the Chron - all that was in was Gregan's plea, which doesn't refer to the ease of buying tickets, etc. :tongue1:

Now it's in the rarely wrong Chron about ticket prices, but still no mention about buying tickets online.

Athletic in plea to stay-aways

Reporter: Michael Yarwood

TOP-OF-THE-TABLE Athletic have targeted a minimum crowd of 6,000 for their weekend clash with MK Dons.

Club officials are hoping the early-season form of John Sheridan’s side will lure stay-away fans back to Boundary Park.

Both home league games this season have attracted low attendances, prompting fears that at least one star player might need to be sold.

Athletic’s share of the crowd against Millwall was 4,857, a figure which dropped to 4,520 when Cheltenham visited in late August.

Chief executive Alan Hardy said: “Saturday’s game is a big one for both sides and we are hoping for a really good turn-out at Boundary Park.

“We’ve made an excellent start to the season. The lads have been winning games and playing good football and they deserve as much support as possible.

“You would like to think more people attend games when the team are doing well, so we are aiming for a crowd of at least 6,000.

“Hopefully that’s achievable, especially if our regular fans tell their family and friends about how well the lads are playing.”

When Athletic challenged for promotion two seasons ago, their gates were regularly pushing the 7,000-mark.

Mr Hardy pointed out that tickets bought in advance are £2 cheaper than matchday prices, while under-12s pay just £3 in the Detect All Chaddy End and Leesfield Developments Rochdale Road End – both offers apply to all home league games.

Bastard Franchise Scum took 331 to Huddersfield so we're likely to see a similar figure here which means we're going to need to turn out 5,600 to meet the target.

I think we'll fall something like 600 short myself.

5500 inc away fans id wager

yes it was interesting to see no mention of being able to buy tickets online, how stupid is that not to mention it,if they mentioned it and we dont get the 6k in then they can at least say look,we tried we advertised it and the new system....but by not putting it on they cant comment on the official site or in the chron come monday that the oldham public dont want to support a football team can they..

oh and incidently in tonights chron,a full page advert from the rugby club advertising the next home game and what is on and the price....why arent we doing that, its not good enough just writing something on the back page......
