ghostofcecere
I'm sorry, somebody has to say it........... get the bloody egg chasers off the pitch for gods sake, yet again there is no grass left on it as soon as they start their season. I know it's an excuse but it's hard to play fast free flowing football when the ball is bobbling all over the place like that. I know it's the same for both teams, but it will suit some better than Latics, who do at try to get it down and play on occasion. Is not Latics fault the 'yeds got screwed over by the council and didn't get a new stadium so TTA............. make them churn the pitch up somewhere else after this season
Matt
Nah, we've been down this route before - IIRC the conclusion was that it doesn't have an impact. If the [football] players can't pass the ball to another player at this level it has nothing to do with the pitch, and everything to do with those that are on it. Diego_Sideburns
The grass grows through a plastic membrane designed to protect the roots, and the ball bounces higher off the membrane than it did off the plastic pitch - just check out the old videos if you don't believe me!. Having said that, we've been outplayed by almost every team at BP this season and Ronnie would have been embarrassed if his team had played the amount of hoofball that we've played. Getting really bored of this constant fixation with "hoof" ball... Long or short as long as its the right ball thats all that should matter! Liverpool scored a cracker today from the result of "hoof" ball!
Butter
Colchester and now Tranmere have played us off the park in recent games. Not the pitches fault, down to the players not being good enough.

Just to clarify, a long ball is a useful tactic and is the quickest route from defence to the opposition goal. Hoofball is whacking the ball into the air invariably to be met by an opposition player. We also specialise in heading the ball in the same way.

I just feel we are desperate to see a free flowing passing football side at BP and that ain't gonna happen on a surface like that. I know there are many, many other reasons why we are where we are, but surely it's more than just coincidence that our form slips when the pitch goes crap after the rugby start on it again. It's a good point but it also isn't going to happen untill we see players consistently playing the free flowing passing football instead of booting it aimlessley into the air... We all know they can do it (the passing bit I mean), we've seen it but at the minute it seems as rare as Halley's comet!!
ghostofcecere
Mark; is it the 'Yeds who play Rugby on it or not? If the answer is yes then it's their fault isn't it.............

Agreed, but maybe it's the lack of confidence in the surface that makes some players feel happier to hoof it rather than try a pass. Like I say it's only one thing out of many that's wrong with us at the moment, but I really think it's a factor. We play better on decent pitches at the start of the season. At least we might, just might be able to improve our home form with a better BP pitch.
Stitch_KTF
I'm with ghostofcecere. I don't see how anybody can dispute that British Bulldog ruins the hallowed turf. Where will you find the worst pitch in the Premiership? The JJB Stadium. Not sure to what degree it impacts on our play/style of play but it certainly will do. If the squatters must play at BP then stick 'em on the carpark.

laticsrblue
big joe was complaining about the state of the pitch after the game on bbc gmr , he said the liked plastic grass instead Joe also complained on LW, he said "every bounce is an off-break" he also reckoned the ball "took a kick" just as Hughes was about to shoot when he hit the post at 0-0. On the + side he said that Cheltenham had an excellent pitch. So lets see on Tues if our bobbly rugby pitch is partially ro blame for out recent demise. Hometownclub
The pitch is in very poor condition and it certainly doesn't help, but we have been comprehensively outplayed on several occasions at BP this season (Tranmere, Colchester, Bristol Rovers, Yeovil etc etc etc) and certainly cannot blame the pitch for all those poor performances and results. daznathe
spot the rugger fans easy in this thread cant you. two questions, if it makes no difference then why do most teams bother to grow grass? and why do groundsmen try their damdest to keep people off the pitch? you know the answers, even if you disagree publicly, you know for a fact theres a reason for it.
