quark
Another match in which our second half performance was not a patch on the first half. Before half-time, we were totally in charge. The players were obviously up for it and Whitaker (outstanding for 45 minutes) and Allott totally controlled midfield. After the interval, Orient brought on a left winger who gave Hazell a hard time (Rubes simply is not a full-back) and we just fell away. Even so a draw was the least we should have had. Their penalty was a terrible decision. If that was given, then we certainly should have had a penalty a few minutes later when Taylor was brought down. But it is baffling that a team which can play so well for 45 minutes can let things slide so easily. In the first half, Whitaker was terrific and could easily have had a second goal with a good header. That was from a centre by Jones who worked well on the left with Westlake in the first half and used his pace and accurate crossing to create several chances. We really looked dangerous then. But all that mysteriously stopped in the second half. Westlake overall does not not look like a wide midfielder to me. Nor did Taylor look much cop today, a lot of work but nothing achieved with it. Up front, Smalley and Alessandra worked their socks off but too often they were not physically strong enough to win or hold balls against the defenders and, to be honest, for all their good work, they rarely looked like scoring. Over the 90 minutes, the most consistent and successful players were Gregan and Stam. Neither put a foot wrong, and Gregan in particular showed his class and was my MOM. spainboy11
Why you got Westlake on loan anyway is beyond me. He was really bad at Leeds and he isn't a natural winger. If Cheltenham don't want him there is something wrong.

Anyway, have you ever actually seen Westlake play?

Flemboy
Noticed the ref was Friend....the same one who gave two pens against us at Peterborough and cost us another 3 points.

leeslover
Dalmations, not yard dogs That was a bit odd . What next? I know someone who works for Churchill, perhaps I could sort some nodding bulldogs out? PS - stunning goal from Whitaker, but he was awful until then. rudemedic
Jones and Westlake (who looks like he might be worth a wage for next season but not a transfer fee) dominated in the first half and Thornton didn't get a kick (of the ball any rate). The halftime substitution changed things (he bought Morgan on and swapped the left winger to the right, I think- I had it pointed out to me by my Dad). We stopped dominating down our left and their midfield starting getting time on the ball. Then the penalty which OK you see those given (personally it should be an indirect free kick for obstruction if it was a foul- which I think it wasn't) but 5 miutes later Taylor has worse done to him in their area and we get nowt and two minutes after that Morgan does exactly the same with Hazell outside the area and no free kick. Now this was a blatant case of the ref (who spoiled a game by being picky and then a rubbish penalty decision) being inconsistent and when it was pointed out to him he booked someone. We had a good first half and they had a good second half it kinda summed up our season by not putting teams away when dominating and then when we get dominated the opposition scoring. Plus really not getting a point against a team struggling away from home when we go 1 up and dominate (2/3 up at half time wouldn't have been harsh on them) sums up our season if we want to go up next season we have to put teams like that away when we get the chance. As for the Yarddogs they looked a bit weird as I don't remember my genuine one from back in the day being that big. Plus that goal from Whittaker was worth the £13 entrance fee alone.
