Traffordtic
Last chance saloon, Monday 30th Jan at Boundary Park...win and the fever increases, lose and we have nothing to play for except the possibility of maintaining a gap between ourselves and the relegation fodder. However with our recent points tally, we could well be dragged into some stage of the battle for survival. Team choice and our ability to find the net will dictate the way our season evolves; this leaves Paul Dickov with a lot of soul searching and the possibility of making some key decisions. All being well he will have a full pack to choose from, will he take the 'safe' option or will he tinker, hoping to find that little extra that's been missing of late? You'd like to think he'd leave the full backs as yesterday, Black isn't good enough but he has the experience in that position, enough you'd think to rely on unless he gambles on another 'specialist' loanee. Only real decision in the centre back department will be if he brings Zander back in for Tarky, for all Tarky's youthful exuberance, i'd still take Zander's experience. Wes and Furman in the engine room?? Adeyemi had a great game there yesterday but again i'd go with the tried and tested option. Taylor is a given, that leaves one from Parker, Morais, Scapuzzi and Adeyemi for the other wide berth; Morais for me offers most in creating chances and that should be uppermost in selection. Up front, does one in the 'hole' work? Would two up top be a better option? Simpson again is a given - barring injury but what about Kuqi? Granted his goal tally and experience are unquestionable but his recent form is shocking! Has he been found out and more to the point, is the crux of it all that he's one dimensional? Would Smith be a better option or is he too a one trick pony?? Parker, has he got the ability or is he 'just fast'?? Scapuzzi????? Tough decision for the mananger but hey ho, that's why he's in charge. Whatever the selections, they must perform and excuses and hard luck stories are no longer a viable 'reason' for us not winning. I like Paul Dickov, i respect his views and opinions and i also understand that he's still learning the managerial game; i also understand that he takes full responsibility for my team's success or failure and that is ultimately how i will judge him. We're just lacking in the final third, i'd just concentrate on that aspect of our game over the next week or so and ensure that whatever side we put out on Monday 30th, are fully motivated, aware, fit and more than anything.....capable of winning the game by two goals!! futchers briefs
A very precise, thought out piece mr/mrs trafford. Psychologically monday is massive! Lose and a potential relegation dog fight ensues.. win and pd creates a piece of latics history and goes down in folklore.. either way, it's a good example of the fineline between success and failure

A good assessment. Weather conditions yesterday did not help - decision making has to improve - but generally there were a number of good performances - Cisak, MVoto, Tarkowski and my MoM - Chris Taylor - great work rate - good skills and one sublime tackle and burst forward that almost gave us the game. He started out wide and then dropped into the middle when Wesolowski went off. The only major disappointment was Kuqi who simply did not look up for the game - we can only hope that next week he is motivated by the prize that awaits the winners. Assuming that the injuries clear up - the following should be our starting eleven for a week on Monday: Cisak; Lee, MVoto, Diamond, Black; Morais, Furman, Wesolowski, Taylor; Simpson, Kuqi The bench: Bouzanis, Adeyemi, Smith, Scapuzzi, Tarkowski One final thought - if Simpson signs a permanent contract next week then the starting eleven above is all ours - not a single loanee - nice one
stargazer
Totally agree .....lose & how many non season ticket holders will turn up to Cat A games for a team in 16th place in February , for a team who frankly would have let both the fans & themselves down by failing miserably to beat the bottom club over 2 legs. Chesterfield should be comfortably beaten , but we need the back 4 to concentrate for all 90 minutes & every player to be as intense & wanting this as the fans. Our fans 30 years old or younger have had a miserable time ......they deserve this day at Wembley.
Frankly Mr Shankly
If we win it'll be a huge boost. But, we mustn't be complacent and take our eye off the ball. We're very close to be dragged into a relegation dogfight. Teams at the bottom have picked up, like Chesterfield and Wycombe (the hammering at home to Huddersfield aside) and we're only a couple more defeats away from actually being in that bottom four. I'm confident with the team we have to have enough to push us up the league a little. We're berift of a bit o' luck at the moment with injuries starting to bite and Kuqi losing his form the way he has. Think we need Reid back ASAP and perhaps give Kuqi a few games on the bench to regain his mojo. Huge, huge game on Monday. An early goal is a must. steveoafc
We as fans have our part to play on monday too. We need to really get behind the boys, not get impatient and create a positive atmosphere. Let's hope people get out of their armchairs and help roar the boys on to wembley. GlossopLatic
Huge, huge game on Monday. An early goal is a must. And one from the teams talisman would be most welcome I think the rest of the team would benefit if Kuqi started scoring again knowing you have someone up top who is always capable of getting you a goal would be a huge boost. opinions4u
If we fail I can see 31st January being very quiet for incoming loans and renewals.
squeefoldham
Taylor is a given?! Pffft. Why should he be first name on the teamsheet? Having your car featured on the front page of maxpower magazine and being a member of plenty of fish says it all for me. Lets cash in on him before he kills matty d carr and carlton macintosh doing handbrakes on booths garden centre car park

opinions4u
Last season I wasn't impressed with Taylor as a makeshift central midfielder. He did an excellent job on Saturday though.

Lets cash in on him before he kills matty d carr and carlton macintosh doing handbrakes on booths garden centre car park You really don't like Chris do you! But can I ask do you know him? Or is it some other Chris Taylor? You say he drives a lowered Audi TT - He doesn't! You say he is a member of Plenty of Fish - He isn't! You say he does handbrake turns on Booths Garden Centre car park - He doesn't (He wasn't even that immature when he first started driving!)and his Dad wasn't at the game yesterday! So the only conclusion I can draw from this is that you are talking absolute rubbish or your getting him mixed up with someone else..... Fan up the ladder
Taylor's actions in mouthing off in the referee's face at Chesterfield was shocking but in my opinion he made up for it on Saturday, especially when he took over the armband. His clearance off the line was the difference between a point and zilch. Re the original post, the JPT will determine our season's direction but being a pragmatist, this season has been a success in terms of cup competitions no matter what happens next Monday. We should not be quick to forget our abysmal cup record in the last few seasons prior to this one. Getting to the "semi final" of the JPT and getting to the third round of the FA Cup (with a glamour tie thrown in) represents real progression. Yes, we've had one or two lucky cup draws but the results away at Scunthorpe and Southend stick out as an example of what we've been able to achieve that we've failed at in the past. We were all moaning about the poor cup form prior to this season. We've ticked that box now and whilst I'd be absolutely devastated if we didn't get to Wembley, it wouldn't bother me if we didn't have a cup run next season and tried to push more for a higher place in the league. Our league campaign has stuttered as a result of the cup runs, and although Dickov (don't we all) wants to win every game, I wouldn't be surprised if it's back to pitching in a few reserves in the early rounds of the cup next season. But he has been publicly warned by Stevie in another thread. If it was discoverd to be another play on the wind up, it really would not suprise me. Mind you others have form for wildly inaccurate info passing off as fact.....!

Roger Ritchie
Taylor was awesome after he got the armband yesterday. The stop on the line was some great commitment. Shell18, is the rumour true that he buys two happy meals every Sunday so he can fight with the toys? Or is that a rumour Leeds United fans made up to get him to sign for them?
