BP1960
I toddled down to Chapel Road today to have a look at the Latics youth v Fleetwood. Latics won 2-0 with a couple of well taken goals from striker Rio Murray. I didn't stop long so its not a proper assessment, but it wasn't Devante Jacobs who took my eye it was Callum Scullion a powerful blond haired centre back who was terrific in the air and passed the ball well with his left foot. I will keep track of his progress, as I said it's only a first look and the opposition wasn't too good, but I was impressed with his will to win every ball. Thought are number 7 played well was suprised to be told he is one of those being relapsed. Thought the Fleetwood number 9 looked a handful
BP1960
Scullion again impressed in the cup final v MK Dons, this time he wasn't at centre back, but at left back. He has a terrific never say die attitude and if he can progress next season Latics fans are in for treat watching him play with total commitment, pace and good distribution skills. Right winger Lee Knight also has a good attitude and could be the wide man we have been waiting for. Alex Read reminds me of Mike Milligan, a real tiger of a midfielder. If these three and some of the others can come through next season it will be great for the club and a vindication of retaining the youth policy. I think I'm right in saying we're only keeping Tuohy, Jacobs and Byrnes on.
Alec1954
Could really do with a reserve side to bring this lot on.

Maybe the new manager will have a different philosophy
Twisbrogan
Johnson opted not to run a reserve team when given the option, but to focus all the playing budget on the first team squad. Maybe the new manager will have a different philosophy Isn't the problem that they'd have no-one to play? Many bigger clubs just seem to run teams in the U21 development league, leaving reserve team football at our level with matches against trialists or lots of postponements when they find they can't afford to operate squads big enough. Diego_Sideburns
In the Chron, below the Open Day story, Dean Holden is keen to avoid the continuation of the preference for loanees over development of the Club's young players. He says after Sunday's game there will be an open meeting for staff ideas, laying cards on the table and clearing the air on ways the club can advance. http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-features/10/oldham-athletic-news/91615/standout-attraction This doesn't mean he'll continue in charge, as the story could still be applicable even if a new manager has been appointed by then.
