Some games from the distant past which I know were shown on TV, recordings of which may or may not still exist (if they do, I've never seen them, apart from the original transmissions):

19/11/66 FLD3 QPR 0-1 Latics  (from the first year of the Bates-McIlroy era, when we briefly had a very decent side - Best, Kinnell, Johnston, Towers, Knighton, etc. QPR won the division and the League Cup at Wembley that season, so this was quite a result!)

27/11/71 FLD3 Latics 0-6 Aston Villa (Andy Lochhead scored a hat trick for Villa, Bruce Rioch also on target with two long range piledrivers).

29/12/73 FLD3 Latics 0-3 Watford (third in a run of four consecutive defeats over the Xmas-New Year period, followed by ten consecutive wins!).

06/04/74 FLD3 Latics 2-2 Tranmere (poor performance, late equalizer from Lochhead saved our blushes).

13/4/74 FLD3 Bristol Rovers 1-2 Latics (the result which enabled us to finish one point clear of Rovers to win the Div 3 championship).

The QPR and Bristol games were on BBC Match Of The Day, the others were shown on Granada's Sunday programme. The goals from the Watford game can be seen on this review of the 73-74 season from the 07:45 mark:https://youtu.be/kbAIrk55ex4

Hi Andy:

A couple of things, 23.8.75 the main match on Granada the next day was Blackburn v. Oldham & our away match at Crystal Palace on 18.4.92 was the last top division match not to be filmed.  Apparently either a technical problem or no cameraman showing up!

1964 - That was the season Palace were promoted from the Third Division as runners up. They were pipped by Coventry on goal average.

Also the last time we won at Selhurst Park I think (across all three teams we played there!)

1948..Latics cup ties were often featured on Pathe News. I remember one in the North East during the late 1950s or early 60s, but not sure who against, , might  have been Shildon or Crook Town, but it seems to have been lost now anyway...https://www.britishpathe.com/video/cup-thrills-are-back/query/Walthamstow

A five minute clip of the game was shown on LWT's 'The Big Match' programme, and this was on YouTube until about a year or so ago. The only other notable action it contains, aside from the Watford goals, is George Jones missing a good chance to make it 1-1 from six yards out, accompanied by an Anfield Kop type surge of fans in the Chaddy End. Oh for the great days of terracing, eh?

A couple more away defeats to add to the list here, snippets from Sunderland in 1975-76 and 1977-78 – Steve Taylor’s goal in 1977 not shown but a couple of saves in the first by Chris Ogden and some vintage sloppy defending throughout… sounds like both must be The Big Match so not sure if there is more footage out there?

Just wondering....was the home game v Sunderland in 1975-76 (on 20th March '76) televised by Granada? My Latics obsession from 1969-75 had peaked by then, and this was one of the relatively few games I attended in that season, which I only have a dim recollection of, but for some reason seem to recall the presence of TV cameras. One thing I do clearly remember was that it was an absolutely dreadful game (final score 1-1).

Spot on with the Sunderland 1975-76 memory! Just no sign of it on YouTube – Sunderland are pretty good at putting up clips where they exist so possibly ‘lost’.

They also have a stats site with details of individual games: http://www.thestatcat.co.uk/Match.aspx?MatchID=1425&LU=S&LUID=97

This is a great resource for Granada/ITV games, shows that one and several others featuring Latics which are also seemingly lost:

There must be footage from other regions too, hope more can be found.

That's superb, I'll list all the missing games in the 1st post in this thread....
