  1. Pretty much agree with that. Think Shez should have til Spring 09 - if by that time we're nowhere near the Play Offs I would expect TTA to start seeking his sucessor. I do like the way the team play at times under Shez - good passing, attacking football which is rarity at this level....only problem is it seems to have become a rarity at Oldham of late as has the ability to win games.
  2. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/col...icle3485612.ece Bradford find price of loyalty If the accountants measure the dash for cash in the Barclays Premier League in astronomical amounts, fans at the bottom of football's pile know precisely the cost of their love of the game: £3.25, in some cases. That is the price for a match ticket being offered by Bradford City, who are proving that enterprise and a little thought for the people who pack the stands can go a long way to reviving a club. Bradford have been in freefall since being relegated from the top flight seven years ago, enduring two spells in administration along the way. Another bout of relegation last season to Coca-Cola League Two should have meant tumbleweed blowing through empty stands. But if Julian Rhodes, the chairman, has been unable to turn the tide on the field, he has been able to keep bums on seats. By offering season tickets at £6 a match, the average gate was more than 13,000 during Bradford's drop into the fourth tier. Now season tickets are on sale for next season at only £150 and the deal includes a buy one, get one free option: of 12,000 season-ticket holders, 9,000 are adults, and they are being offered one more ticket if they purchase by the middle of June. Each person's admission per match works out at an astonishing £3.25. Last season's knock-down prices helped to turn losses of £500,000 a year into a small profit. Now Rhodes believes that he can aim for gates of 20,000 in a bit of business that is delighting supporters' groups and opening doors to more young fans
  3. A mate of mine was harping on about this in the pub yesterday ...."Hughes will never play for Latics again whilst Sheridan is boss".....I hope it is just rumour.
  4. We won't go up. If we get 6 points from the next two matches then it might...just might..spark a little run which will keep us in with a sniff, but we all know this isn't going to happen.
  5. You've gotta wonder whether the time Hughes spent inside and away from the regular training/playing of a professional footballer has made him more susceptible to injury. Will we ever see Hughes injury free for a prolonged period ???
  6. Lost 5 or their last 6 games ! Looks like the wheels are coming off just as they reach the business end of the season. They're still in with a shout if they win their games in hand but I think they'll mess it up as usual (still, they're in a better position than Oldham) I was born in Rochdale and have a little bit of a soft spot for them, but my biggest reason for wanting them to do well is so that they get promoted and give me a chance to see my first competitive match between Latics and Dale. Has anyone ever seen a competitive match between Oldham and Rochdale ? I'm not talking about Rose Bowls or other friendly type games etc...just proper League or Cup games.
  7. SUMMER FOOTBALL !!! After almost dying of hypothermia ( I should have worn the right gear really ) on Tuesday I think I've decided that Summer Football is the way forward. Heated seats with wind-blocks and rain covers would be good too.
  8. It probably would mean more admin/legal work - but Bradford have shown it can be done. I'm sure Hardy and every other FL chairman/chief-exec are aware of what Bradford have done. I wonder whether any clubs (including us) follow Bradford's lead this year...it's undoubtedly been a success for them...they're getting 13k a game...granted they're probably not making much more, if any, revenue...but it's generating interest in the club and getting people interested and back to watch them...shame it's not helping them on the pitch and will be interesting to see what the club and the fans of Bradford do next year.
  9. Not sure if you were replying to my post or not pal....but if you were then it should be pointed out that if commitments to buy season tickets didn't reach 10,000 then obviously the offer would be revoked and season tickets prices would go back down to their normal pre-offer level. I'm pretty sure that was the Bradford plan....they were only going to commit to swelling the STs at 150 quid if 10,000 commited to buying.
  10. I'm for the Bradford type idea. I think they said if 10,000 committed to buying a season ticket then they'd sell them at 150 quid or something similar. Season tickets for U-16's could be, say, 50 quid. I really think this could work at Oldham. Pay-on-the-day prices would have to stay the same (like they have at Bradford, i think). The 'pickers n choosers' like me would be far more likely stump up for a season ticket. I don't know the percentage of adult and u16 season ticket holders at the moment, but I pretty certain that 10,000 at 150/50 quid would equate to more than 3,500 at 330/160 quid. Staffing costs for OAFC would no doubt rise, but so too would income from programmes, food etc. The atmosphere would be better as well....I think people who haven't been to Latics for years might be tempted back....my girlfriends dad is a Bradford fan and he had rarely stepped foot inside Valley Parade since the Prem days until this season...a lot of his pals and families are back watching Bradford now too...will be interesting to see of they're still there next year I suppose though.
  11. The price per game if you bought a Bradford season ticket was something like 6 quid !
  12. For the crowd to be under 4k is a bad. Perhaps not totally unexpected, but psychologically it's bad when you see Oldham's attendance figures starting with a 3. People used to use the term '' 5,000 faithful ''.....that term cannot be used any longer. It was bloody cold tonight in the Lookers Paddock and my 11 year old sister didn't moan one bit....top girl...whereas me, I just wanted to go home. The atmosphere was dour (as usual), the ref was bad (as usual) the performance was poor overall (as usual), especially in the first half, 4.50 for a pie and a bottle of beer is a joke too. Thank f... I don't have a season ticket.
  13. Thanks for the reply. I have Vista....if that's what you mean ???
  14. I've deleted my recycle bin so it's no longer showing on my desktop - anyone have any ideas where it may gone to ????
  15. It woudn't suprise me at all if he did have an Oldham ST, but I know he was a Liverpool fan at the time - but most kids were Liverpool fans back then, weren't they !!!! With the occasional Forest fan here and there too !!! ....Forest never used to get beat....how things change.
  16. I'd like to share your optimism, but it just doesn't look like happening. If Hughesy gets back in the reckoning asap and finds some very good form then it might....just might...be possible to go on a run. That run needs to start on Tuesday though. Personally, I think the season is over.
  17. No chance fellas.... 'Key', as we used to call him, grew up near me...he was a good 5 years older than me.....he lived just over the Royton border in Rochdale. I remember he used to have loads of Liverpool shirts....Crown Paints, Candy and all that... I wasn't a Liverpool fan but was well jealous of his Liverpool football tops. He was never an Oldham fan back then, and this around 1990 when Oldham were on the up.
  18. Cheers. I honestly didn't know. I went to a lot of home games that season but was in Majorca when THAT game took place.
  19. Was John Sheridan in the line-up for Sheff Weds that day ?
  20. Liam Daish sent me an email today expressing gratitude and all that bollo...s (alright it was no doubt one of those automated ones that got sent to all MyFootballClub members....) Bet he wouldn't have sent it to me if he knew I'd voted for him not to have his contract extended.
  21. Sorry Boss. Just getting frustrated with all this arguing about the atmosphere and its effect on peformance. Was still very gutted when I came on yesterday morning (like everyone else, no doubt). I should, and will, learn not to take anything seriously on a messageboard in future. Sorry Mr Lags.
  22. Are you stupid ? Any idiot can surely understand that a team will peform better when given encouragement as opposed to playing in a near silent ground where all that can be heard is sighing and moaning. So, the crowd got behind the team yesterday and they still put in a rubbish performance - it happens.
