What other midfielders?

God only knows what Nick Powell is going to do to our midfield next week.

I’ve seen a couple of rumours about Fane. I’ve assumed over pre-season that getting him out is part of the plan.

Not for the first time, I was ashamed to be sat amongst some of our supporters today. The vitriolic abuse aimed at Banks from the first minute was a disgrace, whatever your opinion of him. I’m not his biggest fan myself, but he did little wrong in that first half, and wasn’t the worst of a very poor bunch in the second. Not that these people need any excuse to scream obscenities in his direction for the entirety of the match.

Flynn has got an Achilles injury.

Davies will be one of our high earners, but I don’t see why two young players surplus to requirements at Premier League clubs would have set us back.

To be fair, based on absolutely nothing bar their interviews on Latics Player, I’ve always got the impression they don’t really get on.

It’s not the system that will change, but one or two of the players within it. I think that’s pretty obvious from what Shez has said.

Yeah, he wasn’t great today, but you still feel like he could cut inside and whip one in to the top corner given half a chance.

Last years shit show is still costing us in some ways. We’re stuck with Banks and Flynn because somebody decided to stick them on two year deals.

We probably couldn’t get Lonergan as our number one, let alone pay as you play while we wait for somebody else.

United announced it from the start as being a reserve team friendly. All a bit of a waste of time really. I don’t think we’ll see a strong team from Shez this close to the season.

If we can get 70 minutes out of him before bringing Green/Fane on he’ll do a job.

Very positive from what I’ve read. Seems he did a decent job for them in the Championship when fit the season before last and was very good in League One. All down to keeping him fit I suppose. This signing, along with the others we’ve made, certainly appear to fuel the thought that we’re unlikely to be a free flowing attacking side next season.

The Chron say we’ve turned down one six figure bid. Between 200-250k with a decent sell on sounds about right to me, given he’s only got one year left.

I’d be okay with McLaughlin leaving if that rumour about Douglas was true.

I thought Banks did well last season after Shez came in, but he didn’t really have much choice but to put his trust in him. We may see Tope on the wing at times but if he’s not there then him and Davies will be fighting over a position next to Holloway (when fit) I would imagine. Gardner will be seen as somebody who can get on the ball and keep possession rather than a Baxter type, just going off Shez playing him deeper in the first friendly. Not sure where he played at Salisbury though. Either way, we have some decent competition for places, finally.

You’re right. FFS. Regardless, I think that’s the team we’ll likely see with everybody available.

As has been said, Gardner hasn’t been signed not to start. Farrell Wilson Gerrard Clarke Hunt McLaughlin Green Gardner Obadeyi Davies Holloway Away from home I think we’re more likely to see Green, Gardner and Fane in midfield.
