Vaughan was totally to blame for losing the ball though - he was too slow to bring the ball under control and unaware of the opposition player closing him down. Also, at that point in the game Latics had subbed Hope, Hogan and McGahey with Sheron dropping into the back four from his covering midfield role. So the balance of the side was disrupted, which could explain the lack of cover. I’ve said before that, this season is pivotal for young Harry. Time is on his side and he does have talent. However, as well as bulking up, he has to show progress or he will remain a bit part player.

I was impressed with the centre back pairing of Hogan and McGahey and the left back Francis-Angol looked okay too. If Clarke stays, then he slots in at right back with Sheron as defensive midfielder. We still look short in the creative midfield role and our wide.

Stobbs is a right footed player who played down the left today. He rarely cut inside so was always crossing with his weaker foot. He also missed a glorious chance to put us two up and with his right foot too

First pre-season friendly this Saturday at Bamber Bridge. I accept that these games are purely to get the players into fitness/game mode and the results are no real indication but it is worth mentioning that this will be the third game that Brig have played (losing 0-3 to Preston and 1-5 to Wigan in the other two games). It will be interesting to see the starting eleven

You get paid obscene amounts of money You are picked to play for your country Surely it’s not much to ask that you put in some effort? My problem with England is that they are afraid to play - and that’s down to the coaching staff I reckon.
