Just been reading a bit about this on the Southend forum. They seem to think Brown is desperate for the job, and some of them seem to want rid of him on that basis. They weren't particularly impressed with him comparing his situation to Pellegrini at City to explain their recent slump in form. But there is also a suggestion on there that he has a massive (£500k) release clause in his contract which Bolton cannot/ will not pay and their chairman will not negotiate on. They seem to reckon that is the reason why Bolton are now looking elsewhere. May be, if he wants the job that badly, Brown will become disruptive at the end of the season to force their hand towards negotiating a settlement.

I thought he'd had a career change and was now a regional sales manager for a survey company.

Ironically, the reporter responsible for this story is apparently same guy who tweeted this morning about Shez to Bolton. So may be we shouldn't worry too much.

Really, all that the statement means is that there has been no approach yet and they would prefer it if there wasn't one. It doesn't mean there won't be one and they won't be put under pressure to allow him to talk to them. However, reading what Kowenicki has posted above, and add to that the fact they're under a transfer embargo, I'm not sue why any manager who already has a safe job in the same division would want to give it up to take that job on. Brown included.

Just reporting what I was told. He doesn't claim to be well connected at the club so he's probably read it on their forum. It's not the same situation as Newport at all. Shez had a month to month rolling contract so very little compensation was due. Both Brown and Shez have 2 years left on their contracts. I think it likely that Brown is paid more than Shez so it's quite logical that the compensation would be higher.

Bolton supporting mate reckons Andy Townsend (their new football consultant) favours Shez but Holdsworth prefers Brown. Reckons the compensation due for Brown is much higher though. Brown clearly wants the job, it almost seems like he's trying to engineer his own sacking with some of the quotes he came out with at weekend. Let's hope they manage to agree a compromise with Southend and go for him.

mmm. Starting to get worried now that the Bolton New journalist is saying it was being discussed at the PFA award last night.

I'm not sure Shez would actually want to go there at the moment. Sounds like, despite the takeover, everything in the garden is still not rosy. The fans will expect promotion but the new manager will have a relatively small budget for next season because of all the money they are still shelling out on players on good contracts from their more successful days. Sounds like there are also still financial problems to sort. Houldsworth's current backers are city money men who are in it for a return on their investment, not the love of the club. Apparently he needs to find new investors fairly quickly. It is being suggested that they can't afford Phil Brown because he has 2 years left on his Southend contract that they'd need to buy out - same as Sheridan here. There's also a story that Houldsworth wants to control transfer policy himself and is looking for more of a head coach than a manager. Not sure Shez would like that.

If I was his career advisor, I'd be suggesting that he sets up a company offering coaching courses in how to impress in a job interview- he's clearly pretty good at that.

According to the The Sun on Sunday, Dunn is in the frame for the manager's job at Blackburn if Lambert leaves at the end of the season!

Heard Sheridan rates him highly. So there will probably be an offer on the table for him. Whether or not he accepts it is a different matter.

There is an interesting article in the Independent on the story (can't post link from work PC unfortunately). It basically says that Evans needs to find a club to take him on this summer to save his career as it could be over a year before another trial takes place. It says that we had not ruled out signing him if the conviction had been quashed with no retrial allowed. Not sure how they have got that information though as the article goes on to say that it is such a sensitive subject that no one in authority at the club would even comment off the record. It then goes on to suggest that Johnson was told we wanted to sign Evans, regardless of his thoughts on the subject, but if the possibility cane up again, Sheridan is in a strong enough position to ensure that it would be his decision, not one made over his head.

Agreed. Evans has been out of the game for so long now, it's a big risk to assume he'll be the same player he was before.

He'll probably be past retirement age by the time this whole sorry saga is finished. Wouldn't be suprised if, whichever side loses the retrial, they then appeal to a higher court.

I think the prosecution announced a couple of weeks ago that they would definitely seek a retrial if the conviction was quashed.

And there is also an issue with some fairly substantial debts to agents that have been deemed to be directly football related, contrary to their new owners expectations, meaning they will have to be repaid in full. BBC (radio Manchester) reported last week that Wilder is expected to be announced as their new manager at the end of the season.

Yeah, his demeanour did seem to be suggesting that if Jones didn't want to play with that injury, he's a bit soft.

I really don't understand the negativity towards these offers shown by some posters. The club put on an offer which turned out well for those of us who took it up. Obviously, some fans were not able to given the short notice, others didn't want to. The club puts on another offer to allow fans who couldn't/didn't want to participate in the first offer to still get a (smaller) discount. Very fair of them in my opinion. Of course ,the club may have other motives that have contributed to making the offers (i.e. cash flow) and they may not (several other solvent clubs started selling season tickets before us). As fans, we can't influence that, so why would you not take advantage of one of the discount offers if you were planning to get a season ticket anyway? The bloke sat next to you may have paid less than you if he got in on the first offer, but you've both paid less than you would have done otherwise.

Just seen Shez's Latics Player interview. Sounds like the injuries are not too bad after all. Brian Wilson is fine, James Wilson should be ok for Saturday. He said Jones's ribs were bruised, not broken and Winchester's knee injury is not as bad as feared.

In his post match interview, Shez said that James Wilson had injured his ankle and would have come off if we'd had any substitutions left.

Idont think its about fans chanting his name. I think he'd have stayed because, like Main, he wants to play regularly. I think he'll be on the bench at Burton, not starting regularly, because he doesn't fit their style of play particularly well.

On reflection, it's a shame he didn't have a right to veto a recall in his loan agreement like Main did. I'm sure he'd have activated it if he did.

I doubt he'll play much for Burton this season because he doesn't fit in with their current style i.e. bypassing the midfield. They've probably recalled him to make up the numbers. However, that isn't Clough's usual style of play. It's what he inherited and, probably wisely, decided not to change this season. I wouldn't be surprised if he changes to his more favoured passing style in the close season. If that's the case, Palmer could find himself an integral part of a Championship team.
