  1. I can remember him playing a fair few defence splitting passes in his time. All in the wrong half, mind.
  2. Soft touch, lacked guile, talked bollocks. Although he was one of Penny's he came to represent the Dickov era for me. A dull footballer in a dull football team. He was one of those that always "put a shift in". Whatever league we play in, we need winners, not tryers.
  3. I think it was his other shoulder that he hurt last night.
  4. May as well make a start then. We can always have it in the style of Vale Park if the remainder never materialises.
  5. A planning application is one thing. Having the finance in place to build it is another. So many false dawns, but hope for the future if nothing else.
  6. Cheers for the link Diego. I always feel as though I'm one of the very few Latics fans who just remember Sharp as a top player. One of the first Latics players to catch my imagination and become forever idolised. Probably because he scored a load in that first season, which was the first year my dad took me every week. I remember his years as manager more vividly but the admiration I'd developed for him as a player overrode what I may or may not have thought of him as manager - I was too young to care about the manager and running of the club. One day soon, I hope for another player in a Latics shirt to match Sharp in my estimations. There haven't been many in the last 20-odd years.
  7. I've noticed them and also presumed it was race related. I haven't been following the tournament though so I haven't noticed if it's happened in other games too.
  8. It's on the OS. Usual lack of substance, but all well intended I'm sure.
  9. Just reading a Liverpool message board. Some fantastic comments which go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Some mirror recent comments on here, some reveal a view of our players, management, supporters and town which could be of interest, some are just very funny, and many contradict popular opinion of our team on here. It must be like reading OWTB as a fan of another League One club. Here goes: "How is it knee jerk when you're a Liverpool fan and you lose to :censored:ing Oldham?" "Oldham are a dirty bunch of thugs and every single fan they showed cheering needs to go on a :censored:ing diet!" "Well pretty pissed off that we lost to them... bunch of thugs, worse than Stoke.." "Horrible place to go and play, windy rain lashed and a stadium full of orcs who live in a windswept :censored:ty northern town!" "They didn't come to play football but to bully and batter us into submission. (i.e they did a Stoke) They succeeded frankly and we were very poor! It will be talk of the town for decades to come in sunny Oldham!!" "Oldham are near the bottom of Division 3. That's as embarrassing as any defeat in 20 years." "That was an embarrassing, pathetic excuse for a performance against a team who have taken 4 points from their last 30 in league :censored:ing one." "I like Rodgers and he's our manager for the future but we've had a 8 days to prepare and he can't beat a woeful League One side. It's truly pathetic." "Sterling is 18. He should not be playing against thugs and butchers like Oldham" "When you lose to a team like oldham something has gone seriously :censored:ing wrong." "Hope we think about signing Matt Smith" "Oldham have a few fat players." "Oldham were the definition of clinical today" "Overall Oldham did well and they also had an ex City player and ex LFC player plus some international players. They are a good side. Hope they can win the cup and get into the EPL" "When you play 4-2-4 against a very physical Stoke like side questions should be asked of the manager." "Hated the way Oldham played, wrestling and grabbing" "Oldham were a gang of dirty twats and they bullied us" "Oldham deserve it, but they're obviously cheating their manager as they've only taken 1 point out of 24 and are 29 points behind Tranmere- highlights how poor a loss this is." ":censored:ty pitch, :censored:ty weather, physical game." "We just came up against a decent side who had a strong game plan." "Dickov is a shrewd manager. He knew our weak point, exploited it expertly, and they won." "Coates bullied all day by a bloody great pub centre forward" "Also Oldham aren't a bad side. They looked decent. That Baxter is quality same with Smith. They also hae internatonal players" "I think I may be the only one on here to see the positive in that we realised today we need a plan B. Andy Carroll maybe too expensive for a plan B, if so why not sign someone from the 'lower' leagues who is big and powerful. A good option if we are in a chase in the last 10 mins of a game The Oldham guy today, Matt Smith is my choice" "Conceding 3 against this is a disgrace" "Awful result and performance, but we'll hammer this lot at home in the 2nd leg." "We're the laughing stock of the round." "verall they deserved it, even if they were nasty c*nts." "The thing that hurts most today is that we came up against a league one team in Oldham which who are renowned for being bullied and being too "nicey nicey"in their league. The way they played today was not how they normally play, despite the big lad, Smith, up front for them. They are ususally very poor defensively and hardly score many goals, that all changed today!" "But we haven't learned how to play against physical sides with big centre-forwards, Long, Lukaku, Bobadilla, L.Traore, K.Jones, Bentheke, C.Cole, Welbeck & now Matt Smith" "They had Tyrone from Corrie playing for them,he is due a bit of good luck." "Are you seriously suggesting we sign a big lump from :censored:ty Oldham just because he had the game of his life against us?" "We need a new manager to take our spineless team forward" "We have been beat by a conference team" "Stop doing down Oldham. They looked more than competent tonight. They have interntionals, ex Everton, City and LFC players." "if his name was Smithinho or Coutinho we will gladly sign him" "The FA Cup has completely lost all of it's prestige to me after tonight. It seems all lower league teams will immediately resort to hoofball whenever they play a Premier League side these days. To me that's not entertaining in the slightest." "I've come to the conclusion that the sum total of your fooballing knowledge comes from watching Stallone have a 'good game' between the sticks in Escape to Victory." "As for entertainment, erm kicking the ball around like Spain or some of the Eastern European sides in midfield and at the back with short passes is boring for me and I'd imagine most soccer fans. You want to see goal mouth action. Shots. Corners. Throwins on the byline. Crosses. Physicality You telling me the lad Smith didn't get you focussed on the TV. He was stretchered off. Bodies sprawling all over the pitch. The battle with him v Skrtel was epic." "Just for the record, Oldham's home league record this season....... Played 14, won 3 drawn 3 lost EIGHT. A very difficult ground indeed to win on." "Everton will wipe the floor with these, because they wont get bullied and then they'll beat them with their superior footballing ability."
  10. It took me a long time to forgive John Sheridan for scoring those two penalties past the brilliant Hallworth... but boy did I forgive him when he came out of retirement at Hillsborough to put one past them at the same end all those years later. I'd go back to any game that he played in midfield for us. The best player I've seen, ever, and other than my Dad, the only reason I stuck with Latics through my youth.
  11. Haha I heard that one too. Got going for a bit where I was sat. Almost as challenging as creating a tune for Pogliacomi.
  12. Looks decent. Need to change the We Are Latics font to ARIAL BLACK BOLD though to bring it in line with the club shop and linesman's strip of plastic. A poor font, for a poor team.
  13. If he could afford to sack Dickov as well as his staff, I'd hope he would. He can't afford to sack him, bring a whole new backroom team in and pay off Taggart et al., so we have this halfway house. Although he's not got much support on here, there haven't been too many dissenting voices at games yet, and therefore Corney hasn't felt forced to take the hit financially. That's my reading of the situation, but I stand to be corrected by anyone in the know. I'm only speculating but I see no reason given results and performances why Dickov would have had the time he's had over the last couple of years other than Corney's finances being stretched.
  14. 'The most boring club in English football' - definitely one for the marketing department.
  15. We all seem to be saying the same thing here. Come on Corney. Stop this uncertainty and give the guy a 5 year deal.
  16. Thanks for clearing that up. How do you get Twatics?
  17. Some of us have been taking the piss out of the club for years. No luck yet though.
  18. Sorry guys. Just an excuse to use the word 'queue' (see above). No element of seriousness intended.
  19. More negativity on this board than on Queue Pea Arse, and they're bottom of the pile. Then again, they changed their manager.
  20. Spot on. I'm bored of his insistence that he's created a team that puts a massive shift in, like he did in his playing days, as if it's a good thing. He's created a team in his own image. They run around, but are low on quality, low on ideas and low on organisation.
