  1. Ah, the top half of League One. Where teams never drop points or play badly.
  2. To get to 50 points (arbitrary target for argument's sake) we need 29 from 22 games. That's a shade over 1.3 points per match. Since Johnson left, Holden averaged 0.93 points per game, Kelly averaged 1.0, Dunn was at 0.82. I was over the moon with the appointment yesterday, but the required improvement with the same group of players that has produced that record in the last year or so is significant. Having said that, we've only been hammered a couple of times. A couple of additions to the squad and a coach with the right credentials and we could do it. It's going to take one hell of a fight, but I believe we're fighting now. Recently, I wasn't sure there was any left. Apologies for the dry stats - like most, I prefer to dream. But the question was asked and I gave it some thought.
  3. Strength: He's John Sheridan. Weaknesses: His knees, but that never stopped him.
  4. It says even more that he wasn't considered against 11 either.
  5. Andy had had his best season for Latics the year before this period starts. He was great in the Championship winning season but Marshall, Redfearn, Rick and Hallworth were our best players for me that year and after we'd got up Andy was often injured and constantly in and out as a result. Best player in the last 26 years though, I'll grant you that.
  6. I live abroad. Who do you support? No one knows. Who's your favourite ever player? No one knows. Conversation over. They turn back to the TV screen to watch Toure, Herrera, Henderson run around tirelessly, fit as thoroughbreds and think that's football and think they're footballers. I sip my pint content at my privilege. Privilege at having spent a few years watching John Sheridan play football for my club. The best player I've seen on any pitch, in any league, in any country on earth. Thanks John.
  7. Can anyone provide a comprehensive list of all sources of income at the club, ie. Companies, related entities and individuals etc so that those wishing not to pay the wages of Ched Evans can perform a fully effective boycott and truly disassociate themselves from this situation for the period of his employment (should it happen)? If this can be done before he signs on the dotted line to ensure no stains on reputations that would be much appreciated. Anyone involved in establishing effective sanctions against Russia post-Crimea may be required to help, but this is important.
  8. I'm so upset that the morally pure Boundary Park that I've visited for the past 25 years will be tainted by this.
  9. Just out of interest, which tabloid have you copied and pasted that from?
  10. I read this news last night on here. Thanks to those who posted. I can't say I knew Dave other than to say hello to, but he's of a similar generation of fans to my dad and knew him much better. They'd always say hello and catch up with each other when they saw one another at games having been on many a booze bus together for many, many years. They also played 5 a side at the Clayton Arms back in the 90s on a weekly basis (I imagine porkpie_blue above is referring to exactly the same group of lads!). I sent the link to this page to my dad this morning who replied "Awful news. Such a nice, humble bloke." Best wishes to those closest to him. We'll be thinking of you today.
  11. First - probably Andy Ritchie, but there were so many at the time. As a kid, I adored them all. All-time - John Sheridan. No one else even gets close. Current - I look at the current bunch, having just written the names Ritchie and Sheridan…… oh dear! Andrea Pirlo.
  12. Stayed on alongside Joe and then went to Chesterfield with Shez in the summer that we brought in Penney, Gray etc.
  13. If he's innocent I hope he's found innocent, and vice versa. I respect the guy as a manger. I've always thought he's shown a fair amount of class since he left here given the dogs abuse we give him and his family (and don't get me wrong, I'm the first to join in, it's great fun). As someone mentioned above, he's a pantomime villain and he's good value. What will be will be.
  14. I would imagine most sides outside the top 10 could make a convincing claim to be 3 players off the top 10. We've got what we've got. Will we be top 20 come May?
  15. And hope there's a German around to pick up the tab.
  16. Gave it a good go. The players have nothing to be ashamed of. Did we do enough to deserve a replay? Honestly? I don't think so. Hope they kick on now and do the business in the league to keep us in Division 3, again.
  17. Floated the first few in as if giving Jones catching practice. Then whipped one at pace and caused a problem. He's got a decent cross in him, just needs to have the confidence to get it across at pace and make the opposition defend their 6 yard box.
  18. His performance vs us at BP for Blackwell's Bury last year pissed me off. He was clearly crap at football in any aesthetic sense, but won everything in the air and kicked anything that needed kicking. Welcome to BP Adam. Kusunga back to RB in the League I reckon.
  19. Doesn't mean anything in any league. That's the beauty of the game.
