  1. Freedom of contract rather than Bosman but similar. It was the first I think, just as Chris Makin was the first to be able to move overseas for nothing. A bit like us finishing third in the first season of the play-offs... We have plenty of firsts: founder member 3rd div north, 4th div, premier league, as you say first to get caught by freedom of contract and first I think to play semi final of FA cup at Wembley (along with 3 (insignificant) others. Good pub quiz question in there somewhere.
  2. Not see any advert yet. OAFC thinking. You can see the logic; Dean was part of that, should keep us up at least, so stick with him until the end of the season. Save some money.
  3. Just what do people expect a new manager to do? We already have 3 lone players in the team, how many are we allowed, who can we off-load to bring in new faces, how do we do it with no money? The way I see it the new man will have to be one hell of a motivator, tactician and coach to work wonders with this lot. This is a job set up to fail, hard luck Dean you have been chosen as the fall guy. Scholes is not going to touch this with a barge pole now nor any time soon.
  4. Not at Port vale we do 'nowt' there, not even under Royle.
  5. Agreed, can't understand the 'love in' that some seem to have with George. He's a big character, but as a centre back he is on a par with Hazel and that's a guy that came in for no end of (unjustified) stick on here.
  6. Said it before FFP is anything but fair. Someone on another thread said that fans must have hope, but FFP kills that. Football is no longer a sport; it is a business. We are rapidly coming to the point where there is no point watching unless your club is monied. All that will be left is the Cups.
  7. Distribution generally poor, kicking abysmal and everything seems to go through him. Chubbs despite his failings was better in my opinion. Did LJ have a falling out with Chubbs, because this guy is suspect.
  8. I wish people would stop going on about Scholes; it's not going to happen. Dean is a nice lad, quiet - always has been and not one to kick a**e. So we probably do need a new man, but for now give Dean the support. By the way FFP IMO is not about fair play it is about protecting clubs from themselves. Fair Play would see all revenues taken by the league for them to re-allocate equally amongst all clubs in in the division. All clubs would then be required to work within the same budget. Thought the latter would be appropriate for a new thread, but 'Clifford' may not approve!
  9. Glad you have calmed down. I'll take some of that emotion by proxy.
  10. Very impressed. Very different to Johnson - no PR rubbish- down to earth and sincere. Let's get behind him and Lockwood. KTF
  11. I think we should be able to change ends at half time, just like in the (very) old days.
