Great news! Should be noted that as we saw at the start of the season, (and has been mentioned about Jean-Yves by southend etc) he is a player that tends to need a couple of games to get settled and 'match-fit' after injury. Oh and tomorrow isn't the time to be getting in Brill's ear either.

Tonk to me hasn't been the same since Mvoto went back to Sunderland. Poor the last few games but how quickly people forget. All round it was a decent 1st half and an awful 2nd, never looked like being a 5-0 game though (ala Southampton who did look a class apart), goes to show what the simple formula has always been in this division (that we can't seem to crack), namely a good striker who takes chances at a good ratio and good set pieces.

Since I was at the launch for this Unique Stand I've always thought the BP location would be an ideal location to have such a set up for arena gigs, exhibitions etc. Forget the housing.

To be fair we have been very consistent (check the league record out over the past 2 x 10 games - identical I think). We just need to hold on to a few more wins in the remaining games than we have done so far.

I personally don't think an entirely supporter owned club is the way forward, though I'm not against the idea, and I do think more can be done with a different style trust/100s minority shareholders. What I find deeply depressing is that SC's (who has zero to invest in the club) brief (as I understand it) when he arrived at the club was to help Blitz and Gazal (the money men) to find further investment. That was his brief. We are now 6 years down the line and other than a brief show from Mike Newton nothing has materialised. He has known about the current situation since probably the turn of the year. Granted it isn't easy persuading money men to part with cash, particularly at this time, but 6 years suggests something isn't right. I spent yesterday in a meeting with the main money man behind Burnley. And what I can't understand is why we/the owners/whoever, have this obsession with finding a new 'financier'. Prior to a change last week when another wealthy businessman was persuaded to join the board, Burnley have operated with a board of 8 people for years. All of them successful businessmen, all putting finance in (according to their shareholdings) and most importantly...all fans of the club. Before this is taken as some romantic notion that won't happen, there are plenty of successful Oldham fans, and I cannot believe that all of them have been 'approached' in the past 6 years. For all his failings I like AH from when I've met him and from a football administration point of view I don't think we could get better. I also think Blitz in particular was unlucky with many factors, but I think he'll be the first to admit he also made some howlers. It's a shame it has gotten to this situation, now is the time to ask 'how we solve this' not 'who is to blame'.

Again could be wrong at first glance, but from the figures they've given I'm guessing Eards money is in there which would account for the 1.275m operating loss becoming a 1.524m overall loss even including the 550k write off (which would mean there is a 266k exception income). As I say all speculation at this stage without seeing the actually figures (and even then I'm no forensic accountant!!)

I realise that there's a lot of gaps to fill in with the figures, but by my quick matchbox calculation, despite supposedly being on something of a cost cutting measure throughout 2009 our operating cost base appears to have only fallen by £14k. I will look more carefully at the figures available, but it seems on the surface to be a little bit poor.

Just a pedant point... Corney has never been one of the money men. It is/was Blitz that has written the cheques.

Not quite sure how ST holders have become the baddies in this discussion. Without the large injection of cash created by ST purchases at the time of year that it is our club and many, many others would be in a whole heap of trouble. Plus it is my commitment to the club I support. No more, no less - apart from the fact that I get the seat I want every game. I am one and I am also a massive advocate of the club doing more to get the more casual fan through the gate and find some way of rewarding the regulars who either can't afford a ST or can't make best use of one. After all whether you attend or not you are Oldham fans and ok with me (just be nice to see a few more of you on the odd occasion). Any incentive however needs to be matched against ST holders for 2 reasons. 1, it would be business suicide to create a core group of payers, and then produce an even better deal outside of this for both the short-term and long-term. 2, whatever their own motivation, these are the group of people who 99% of the time will be there come rain, shine or poor football. Without a season ticket in hand I can guarantee that I wouldn't attend some of the games that I do. Travelling the 80+ mile round trip with businesses to run etc means that I have plenty of excuses not to go, but I do thanks to the fact I have a ST. So by all means look at incentives with pricing (though as some point out, that is just one aspect that should be considered), but let's look at how we can make better use of the ST holders, incentivise the next generation of fans (personally I'm an advocate of under 10's free with a paying adult) and loyalty incentives for non-season ticket holders (as long as it is a clear, simple plan and doesn't impact on the incentive to buy ST). As the facts prove, lower prices alone don't bring crowds back in anything like the numbers we need. So keep the ideas coming, but don't make ST holders out to be the bad guys

Should we have season cards (right now) - No - massive unnecessary expense at this present time Is it something the club are well aware of and would like to move to - Yes The only way cards could happen is if every turnstile was fitted with the required technology, plus a sizeable upgrade to the technology within the club. Not a chance of this happening, it is however in the plans for the new ground as I understand it. In fact they have already made part of a move towards it with the Teamcard - other clubs have combined this loyalty card with season ticket in an all-in-one solution.

Sorry, but that's taking it a bit far!! It'll take more than a pre-season with Dickov to find anything measured in Reuben's long 'passing'. For everything else, some good points on both sides of the coin, but I'll give it another 10 games before analysing too much. Couldn't ask for a better start though.

Seems to be de-riggeur in football at the moment to have everyone back. You see it time and again across all the divisions and international football (certainly the bigger nations). So it isn't only us. They'll be a bunch of stats somewhere that's caused the shift, I'd always take the old line of leaving 3 players on the halfway line, thereby meaning 4 oppo players in the box, still leaves man each and 2 on the posts.

True, but without a dedicated person this 'easy' stuff gets left behind in the general daily firefighting that goes on. And that is at the heart of why the club's marketing got to the stage it did in the void between Jarvis and Guy. Any organisation worth it's salt needs a dedicated marketer particularly in this day and age.

I'll just wait for the highlights later then, they'll miss any goals anyway
