I'm not sure the pro Evans lobby (which includes me) are advocating we immediately rush out to sign him. I think what we are saying, and obviously I can't speak for others, is that, if those responsible for what goes on the pitch every week deem he would be an improvement on what we have them they should be allowed to make the effort to sign him. I felt the same last year when ha had served the punishment laid down on conviction, it's perhaps not terribly surprising that I feel the same now that conviction has been quashed.

No - can't impose a longer sentence. Only if had been appealed as unduly lenient first time round. It wasn't.

His hearing won't be in 2 months. The CPS has 2 months (maximum) to charge him. Any trial wouldn't be set until after that. I predict he will be innocent with no trial pending 2 months from now.

Neither would I. Seems like a whole load of expense and trauma for all concerned given whichever way the verdict goes everybody just goes home at the end of it.

It doesn't but there's a basic principle that somebody standing trial is presumed innocent until found guilty. As things stand he is innocent.

So somebody standing trial is not innocent until found otherwise? When did that basic principle of English law change I must have missed it.
