  1. Its most likely they would have been advertising tickets for the Tottenham game, as they didn't sell out. My missus is a Utd fan of 30+ years, and she called into their money printing factory (AKA Souvenir Shop) on Monday....They were selling a pair of crappy flip flops (which probably cost 50p) with Ronaldo's name & number on them. Originally for £12 a pair, reduced to £1! The fact they consider £12 a fair price is daylight robbery. Back to the thread, I'll be there in my capacity as a season ticket holder, and whilst it is a good PR exercise, it would only be a success if (a) loads of new fans' attend and ( a fair percentage return. However, I know of a load of fans who have turned their backs on Latics over the last few seasons for a number of reasons, a lot being season ticket holders who can no longer afford or want to pay a lump sum upfront. I seriously questioned my own motives for renewing this season, and when deals like this come up, it does make you think about sodding the season ticket off, pick and choose games and then wait for the cheap day matches to come around. In the long run you'd save a bundle but that is to the detriment of the club/team. I can honestly see this attracting the recently vacated Latics fan and the club might want to make a concerted effort to attract young fans from the local schools. That way we can try and give the youngsters the bug of coming to the match (for free), with a paying adult, and plan it over a few matches to cement the Latics bug into the kids.
  2. It appeared to go in off the bar, and a decent strike from where I was stood. I thought we played better than last week with Taylor, Smalley and Brooke really trying to make an impression on the game. However, I do feel for the last few years we have tried to score 'perfect' goals rather than chance our arm!
  3. Corney is 100x the man that idiot M**re ever was....If he had cause to defend himself against a moaning old git, then so be it. I was pissed off with fans' in the chaddy who BOOED the team off at full time. We played fairly decently today and lost to a quality goal, worthy of winning a football match. The sooner some of our stupid, moronic fans' realise we are in League 1 and Not the Prem/Champions League the better!
  4. It was the first time I have ever been in attendance when this has happened....I was disgusted / embarrassed / ashamed and humiliated to hear Leeds' fans chanting during the Last Post. No excuse can be given for their despicable behaviour and NONE should be accepted by anybody. They are scum, pure & simple, Leeds and Ken Bates are a marriage made in Hell and they deserve each other!!!!
  5. Wasn't that the thought process when we got relegated to this division 13 years ago!!! We thought we would bounce back and rechallenge for the Premier. Now we are staring down the barrell of the relegation gun again!
  6. Pointless thread started by BRF as a complete Wind Up. MODS Please close same, and maybe even delete it as its existance is futile.
  7. Please! Barnes has never been a failed manager at a higher level....my sperm could have done a similar job at Celtic, but it would have won against ICT - which is where Barnes' failed! As manager of Jamaica, they are too laid back to care about anything so no pressure there! However, in this league I think Barnes & McAteer (AKA Dumb & Dumber to the Tranmere players) are doing an excellent job and long may it continue!
  8. No, sorry mate! Just had a redundancy cull....which I managed to avoid! But I get double time for overtime on Saturdays or Sundays, so its about £30 an hour for a Saturday morning!
  9. We could also do with some local / regional investment alongside TTA money.
  10. So if my understanding of the situation is correct based on the general consensus on here... 1, Under no circumstances can we be anti-Dave Penney, as NONE of what is happening is his fault! 2, However, a very poor start to the season (and in a lot of ways continuing last seasons poor finish) - We now turn on the owners! 3, Despite the fact we look like relegation fodder, we are now saying TTA could make a profit out of the club (on the back of 6 years of losses/financial backing from them). If you read any of the interviews from TTA, they publicly admitted from Day 1 they would make mistakes. Best way in the world to learn something is to do it wrong! That way you can correct it in the future. Also, they have NEVER EVER said they would be here for 20/30/40 years and would always look to move on....but only when it is right for the club and themselves! Turning on the owners is a Wrong and a Bad move in my opinion. Without them there would be no club anyway. The buck stops with the players and the manager! They would take plaudits for winning something, so they take ownership for the defeats and poor performances now....NOT TTA!
  11. TBH it would be a travesty for him to come to club the way it is at the present time. Personally, I doubt it would ever happen now anyway.
  12. I have too agree that simply assuming we'd take 3,4 or 5000 fans to Bristol Rovers wouldn't guarantee a victory or a decent team. Newcastle United have that strange mentality and the fact 1000's of stupid geordies drag their sorry arses round they still win sweet FA! As for criticism for the players signed by Penney, based on Shez's appointments, is deflecting the issue. Players like Abbot, Holdsworth, Gregan (Who Penney re-signed) have proven records in this division. Therefore, apportioning blame on Shez is both wrong and idiotic. Penney was appointed in the close season. Penney had the players in during the start of their break to have a look at them. Penney then decided who stays and who goes. He also decided who he wanted to sign and brought them to the club. Therefore, anything that has happened on the football pitch since the opening day of the season lies squarely at Penney's feet as he is responsible for the team that goes out.....In much the same way that everyone would be lauding him if we we're top of the league! Personally, I wasn't blown away with his appointment and I am still waiting to be impressed by this guy....Not seen anything that makes me think we we're right to sack Shez and replace him with DP. I know people won't agree, but this is my view point. That said, I will be there on Saturday. However, away games are few and fair between for me due to financial reasons. One of which is I can earn £120+ on a Saturday morning!
  13. I see your from near Reading. Which is a relief as you'd never get back up here in that time!! LOL As for the summary of the match, apart from the names it sounds identical to last weekends match v Hartlepool!
  14. Please find below a PM that BRF sent me in response to my comments on this subject: BeckfordsRightFoot "I am having to send private messages as my posts arent showing up. The email was basically a rehash of my opening post although I did add in that a large number of fans have shown support. A white lie but a necessary one. I have had one reply with slightly shocking content, to me anyway, and I will post it when I recieve a supporting email soon. You wont be happy. Feel free to post this." Therefore it would be interesting to see what the one shocking reply is that he has received!
  15. I seriously hope that any recipient of the said email (which I note you haven't pasted onto here to show fellow 'tics) is met with a swift press of the Delete key within the confines of Boundary Park. Why on earth would we want to merge with FC United, irrespective of the team, the fans are the most arogant bunch of to$$er$ on the planet right alongside MKMongs. There supporters believe football started when they set up a splinter club at their opposition of the Glazers taking over at Old Trafford - Since they took over, the splinter group will have seen their former club win several league titles and appear in 2 European Cup finals, back-to-back! So it just goes to show what an arrogant bunch of pr*cks they are.....and you'd want us to merge with them???? FFS No, Nae NEVER! Secondly, and more importantly, you believe the way forward for Latics is to merge with a non-league side and thus see us instantly demoted from the Football League as you have to take up the position of the lowest placed league club in any merger. Then, your assuming we would rise from such a place, whilst trying to compete with already established non-league sides, purely on the basis we may have 6 or 7 thousand fans! By the same thought process Celtic & Rangers would do well in the Premier League....which they wouldn't, and also the Russian sides that attract 120,000 should effectively win the European Cup year on year! One final point, which you have also overlooked, is the fact that FC United was apparently set up by the fans for their fans. If they were really that bothered about supporting Oldham Athletic, they'd have done so without the hassle of forming a brand new club. By the same token, if we saddled them with our debts etc, there'd probably be nothing to stop them saying they'd had enough and go crawling back to Old Trafford (as a fair few have after the novelty wore off after 1 season in the NWCL). This would then leave OAFC in some dead end non-league, lower crowds and little or probably no link with the FC United you wanted us to merge with. Personally, if it ever happened, I would go and give my money to a tramp than pay 1 solitary penny to the Ba***rd offspring you are trying to promote. This has to be the most stupid suggestion ever made!
  16. Ever since they opened up the Rocky Road end and diluted the Chaddy a lot of the atmosphere has evaporated from the ground, more so with the loss of the old Broadway stand. My main reason for staying in the Chaddy was to avoid the 1 tune drummer boy and the chav following he has acquired. Now that I read they sing the Bastard song to the Monkey Hangers from Hartlepool (which is something none of them would know about) and Scousers to the "posh" branch of the Dingles of Accrington, shows how poor things are becoming on the terraces. But please, whatever your nephews decide, please re-educate them from being Liverpool fans'! Even if they became United fan's it would be less shameful!
  17. First and foremost the team that has played in those respective games. After that the onus lies squarely at the feet of the manager(s) : Sheridan / Royle / Penney - Thats because a managers livelihood is determined by results!
  18. How about Graeme "The Fans' are all Morons" Sharp?
  19. Cheers, just came on here to see if there was a Latics private league and have just added myself (Barca Latics)!
  20. No mate, it won't happen! Loads of other clubs have moved grounds in the last 20 years or so and NONE of them have changed their names. Why then, would we change because we moved to Failsworth?
  21. NO! Just move 3 miles closer to the new ground! Problem solved.
  22. Tommy, as soon as I read that comment, I thought of how sinister GMP could be. Play Millwall midweek (@ the new ground) and then they could walk them all the way down Oldham Road into Manchester and to Piccadilly Station for the train back to London. Ideal if they have just lost 1-0 to a goal in the 1st minute of the match and its pouring down on a cold Tuesday night!!!
  23. Just wait until Andrea realises the analogue signal is turned off in her area and she has to go digital! She'll be fuming.....and no doubt that will be down to the BNP element of our fanbase - Or should it be the NF seeing as she is clearly still living in the 70s!!!
  24. I almost agree with that sentiment. However, rather than being "out of his depth" I would probably describe it as "lost his way".
