  1. OK thats fine. Therefore I shall refer back to my previous post about what James Milner said... "Even when we are :censored:, are are hard to beat" That means we always have a chance.
  2. We played Brazil in Feb this year and beat them 2-1 and had exactly 50% possession with more shots on target and 12/15 each at goal. Not to be sniffed at. Not forgetting a 2-2 draw with them on their own patch. Beat Italy one year ago and they only beat us on penalties in the Euros. Wasnt so long ago we beat Spain either. Bottom line is we are capable, lets just go into it and know we can do something so lets just support the lads and hope for the best
  3. FFS stupid internet. typed out quite a detailed response on all the teams in S.A who failed to beat Europeans in all them years listed above. Notably Chile on home soil losing to the W.Germans in 1962, whilst we were out there we also beat the Argies that year. Also in 1930 Yugoslavia beats both Brazil and Bolivia (Who were practically playing at home ;) ) and Romania gave Peru a lesson, as did the USA to Paraguay. 1950 on home soil Brazil failed to beat Switzerland and we beat Chile, Paraguay lost to USA and drew with Sweden. 1970 was in North America but Brazil won every game that year. 1978 in Argentina, Italy beat them in the group stages 1-0, Argentina who won it was still taken to extra time by Holland. Brazil only got a draw from Sweden and Spain. Holland drew with Peru, who also got knocked out of the group stages in a 1-0 defeat to Poland. Again, 1986 was in N.America again but Argentina was held to a draw by Italy again. 1994 in N.A - Brazil only drew with Sweden in the group stages although notably the argies got spanked by Bulgaria and knocked out by Romania ;) but other than Brazil having to win the final on penalties they didnt lose a game either. 2002 - Brazil cruised this WC. BUT, would you say any of the South Americans would say because the tournament is in Europe they dont expect to beat any of us lot? 1934 Italy - won by Italy 1938 France - won by Italy 1954 Switzerland - won by W.Germany 1958 Sweden - won by Brazil 1966 England - won by England 1974 W.Germany - won by W.Germany 1982 Spain - won by Italy 1990 Italy - won by W.Germany 1998 France - won by France 2006 Germany - won by Italy. So there has only been one instance that a S.A team have won it in Europe but we have held 2 more WC's than anywhere else in the world. I dont think theres much of an arguement in this.
  4. Wheres all this crap about cant keep the ball come from? 64% possesion against Poland and 61% against Montenegro (off the top of my head) IIRC. and for us to create something like a shot on goal every 4 minutes against poland and still have a 64% possession rate shows that our midfield created opportunities constantly for the team. Not a bad stat.
  5. I think hes referring to the temperatures/conditions etc in South America rather than distance from home.
  6. Agree with your analysis there. I just dont get it though. Uruguay last year had a deep run but it could have easily been Ghana in that Semi-Final. We are, as you say, not the opposite to the good teams and we should be able to compete against them. They'll be favorites but its no difference to saying Swansea can turn up against Utd/City and getting a result. We are capable. Also agreed about sending the boys off with no expectations. Never understood this mentality either. How can you have an expectation if you are not the favorites in the first place
  7. Why all the negativity? On our day we ARE capable of beating any team. Not convincingly mind and it might not be fun to watch but hell its England, cant be any more fustrating than following Latics. As Milner said in his interview last night, even when we dont play to our best we have shown time and again we are still not easy to beat (Germany last WC aside) Think about all our QF exits previously, Portugal, Italy etc... Penalty shootouts, and we were unlucky that it got took to that with disallowed goals from Sol Campbell etc.... Im not hyping us up and saying we are going to go there and win the WC but, that said it doesnt mean we dont have a chance. Like saying only a handful of teams are capable of winning the FAC each year but you only have to look at recently finalists to know that everyone will have a fair crack at it.
  8. Youve not done them unless you do 3 laps of the ground.
  9. I think its more racist to select someone to be on the commission just because he is black. Sol Cambell is a pillock for saying such brain dead things in the first place. Next it will be should have selected a gay man... Oh wait, is Sol crying because he didnt make the Commission?
  10. Its going to happen. Its writtein the stars. Im leaving the country hopefully for a couple of years on the 1st of April. Oldham will see me off at Wembley in the JPT final on the 30th of March. How can this not happen?
  11. Not exactly 16th but I said best part of. How many times have we flirted with promotion out of them 17years in League One? Reality check. LOL cheeky begger Andy, I will indeed, should be there for 1pm latest.
  12. Because, erm, that's exactly where we have been.... The same damn place we are now.
  13. 16th in League One has been our station for the best part of 20 years. Why would you think it isnt our station? If we were drawing in even just 8k fans a week then maybe theres an arguement for us being bigger but even the shrewedest businessman can only throw so much money at a club with a minimal fan base. Our demise might have been at the hands of people like Lees Brewery etc but in the long term its the people of Oldham who are to blame. Anyway, I dont care, I'm coming home this weekend to see us be the first to beat Leyton and I'm bloody excited - you know how long its been since Ive said I'm excited about visiting BP to see us against a team such as Leyton?
  14. Give the lad a break, full back is the hardest position on a pitch. There isnt many than can fullfil the role to the high level that we expect.
  15. Agreed about the experienced ones might have a completely different outlook on the game and although can be a good thing adding a new dimension to our shape I cant help think it might ruin the style slightly to what we have now. Fresh ideas are what this club have needed it, now we have one - and its working - lets step back and watch it evolve.
  16. Both, you cant expect us to deliver both after so little games, so far this season is a massive improvement and we are in no worse position than any other god forsaken season we spent in this league so lets give it time - only good things can come from what we've seen so far now we know we have a team and manager all capable of providing what we want to see
  17. When did the human race stop talking to each other? Would have took a 30sec google and 30 sec answer. Nuts.
  18. lol I was waiting for us to come up soon as he said the topic. 2 words in and I got it, house mate looked rather impressed ha
  19. I thought this was a working mans game? A stadium full of testosterone etc... We'll be letting the girls play football next!
  20. Nope, blonde haired lad was taken into the corner for what looked like a quiet word, everything looked pretty calm to me, he went with them without force, next thing I see after about them being sat down for about a minute was about 8 stewards jump him and drag him out. Looked completely uncalled for imo
  21. Theyre not going to win every game at London Road this year, no reason why it can't be us who take something from them.
  22. Wasnt Andy Holden club captain before Milligan, I recall him always being injured but stayed and had a massive influence off the pitch as captain? I might also be talking rubbish, would have only been 6/7 ot 8yr old at the time
