  1. Only just found this, this morning and have decided to enter a team and create my own league for latics supporters. This has only just been setup and you can choose between any players from the three tiers of the Football League. However to make it more interesting I have just done a League One team It's free to play and here are the details for the mini league (beware it is case sensitive) League name: Lee Johnson's Barmy Army Password: oldham Here is the website to go on http://www.football-leaguemanager.co.uk KTF
  2. We thought rooney would bag 20 last season, didn't happen. We thought stead my prove to score a few, scored none, JCH could prove a lot wrong this season
  3. I don't know whether it's just me but I much prefer to have a squad like we have now that are all owned by OAFC. As loan signings go don't get me wrong I think a couple of long term loans help and I would be happy to welcome any loan signing that puts on an Oldham shirt whether that be for a month, two months or a season long loan. However I enjoy seeing us play with 11 of our own players and have a squad of young, exciting prospects. I know last season started off with the same but this season I don't feel like we have a real weak link in our squad (there will be one i'm sure) Of the players we have, we have a blend of experience and youth which I really like to see. The squad we have is as follows: Rachubka Coleman B.Wilson J.Wilson Brown Lockwood Dieng Kusunga Mills Kelly Jones Forte Winchester Mellor Dayton Turner Bove JCH Philiskirk Gros A couple of long term loan signings I think will help but I like the look of our squad going into the season. What do you think of loan signings?
  4. A six month deal offered by Accrington Stanley, unlikely to be number one if they have only offered a short deal like that! Be released in six months time and end up somewhere like Hyde or Mossley. Never really been impressed when I've seen him play or when I've played against him so I'm not unduly worried about missing out on a selling clause
  5. I'd rather have JCH. I don't think as much of JCH as a lot and find him an extremely frustrating player to watch, caught offside too often but that may come with experience. What I do like about him though is how many headers he wins (where they go is a different matter), how much he makes defences work with his power and physique. Another thing what I like about him is particularly on Saturday v Huddersfield, he misses a penalty, certain fans question him, then he sulks for about 5 mins, gets on the with the game and proves everybody wrong by scoring a worldie. Half the time I don't know what to expect from JCH but I think that could work in his and our favour when other clubs start sniffing. Leon Clarke is a proven goalscorer, so was Adam Rooney and Warren Feeney and neither worked out and I can think of others where they live off their past glory once made their money. Jon Stead a more recent example, Chris Iwelumo etc. So I'd like to see us keep JCH and see what he can offer in his second season in League One
  6. I have a season ticket but my girlfriend who is a student pays full adult price, could she get in as a concession are you saying with a valid student card? :/
  7. Although I think Hume isn't a bad player and yes he does score a few but we have: Macdonald - GENERALLY not bad in front of goal JCH - tries to make an impact, is a presence but is hardly prolific Turner - bashing them in in reserve games so needs a chance Philiskirk - hit a bad spell of form but scored a few early season We also have 6 loans is it? (I stand to be corrected) and I don't think yet another signing would help. Also believe Fleetwood have a much bigger budget so they are more likely to sign a player of Hume's 'quality' if you like
  8. Or maybe the constant moaning of the RRE faithful has made them change their minds? ;) Time to pick dummies up now and support the team NO MATTER WHERE YOU SIT/STAND!
  9. I have played with and against a few at various different ages. I played for Blackburn when I was younger and came up against Ross Barkley, who was sensational, Adam Forshaw (now at Brentford), Luke Garbutt (was on loan at Colchester). Also played against Courtney Meppen-Walter who didn't stand out above the others in academy level and played against Lomana Lua Lua, Tresor Kandol, Efe Sodje, Sam Sodje, Anthony Willimas in a charity game in which I scored a diving header, also on DVD, that was at Gigg Lane. Played alongside Oldham defender Adam Lockwood, great leader, speaker, helped the young lads out a lot at Bury and also against Luke Simpson at schoolboy level
  10. There was a bit of bother at their place too earlier in the season outside the ground. A group of Crawley fans (presumably who travelled back with no windows on the coach last season) attacked a group of Oldham outside the away end, thus needing an ambulance for an Oldham fan who cut his head, maybe has something to do with it
  11. The best atmosphere at home this season was the Peterborough game, due to the comeback no doubt but the Chaddy really roared us on and to be honest there were more in the Chaddy against Rotherham last Tuesday than in our RRE part. When I said the Chaddy is the best for atmosphere I was again using tradition and what it used to be like (not old enough to know from first hand but videos suggest that) and I agree which is why I don't think the RRE should be an option for season ticket but you should be able to use your season ticket in there when open should you choose to. Constantly moving was why I decided to change where I sat if i'm being honest but I knew that at the start of the season, what does it matter if it is shut for one more game? Just as a trial. I get why people are not pleased by to throw your dummy out and say they won't be going which is what some have done is ridiculous in my opinion
  12. I don't disagree that the mindless morons go to most games but I think after what happened with Crawley the policing would be slightly higher if the latics fans were in the RRE, just going off my opinion. Like with Wednesday v Palace, Palace sent wednesday down and stayed up themselves, there was trouble at that game, the next time they played Palace brough 375 ish on a tuesday night and the Palace end was packed with police because of what happened a couple of years prior. We don't have a vendetta against crawley, true but after last year I think in my opinion this was another reason to add on to cost cutting to shut the RRE
  13. No, No I mentioned the coach thing because that is a reason I believe the Crawley match has seen the RRE shut, might be completely wrong but that was an act of pathetic, mindless behaviour from a bunch of kids! and I don't think we want the same to happen again so I guess fear of that happening may be an added incentive to close it. Only a suggestion
  14. Tell me what the point is then because I'm clearly missing it and want to know why people are making such a big fuss? So would I and I don't disagree but we haven't got that and entertainment doesn't matter for the last 9 games, scruffy wins matter and the crowd need to rise to the relegation dog fight too and really support. Don't disagree with your points though
  15. I have played against Luke Simpson, he isn't anything special and I doubt he will make it (famous last words) however good luck to him
  16. Let me gage a good understanding of the 'moving stands' sitiation with some of the comments that have been made: 'The RRE has the best view' - The best view for me is the side, however it is better than the chaddy 'The Chaddy has always been the home end' - Yes it has and a lot like tradition including myself 'The RRE has the best accoustics' - If you get a massive crowd in it isn't bad but neither is the Chaddy 'The RRE sells beer' - Yes it does but the Chaddy could apply and be granted license for selling beer 'The RRE is the best stand' - Maybe but it always held away fans when we had 4 stands 'We don't need Oldham fans in 3 stands' - Completely agree we don't 'It saves money by moving the RRE fans' - Completely agree, less on stewards, policing etc 'It gives a better chance of atmosphere' - Yes it does if Latics fans are together 'I won't come if I have to move constantly' - You get told you have to move when you buy a ST 'The best atmosphere is in the RRE' - Not this season, heard the chaddy more tbh It doesn't make much difference to me as I sit in the Main Stand Paddock but I really don't understand the complaints. People are trying to improve the atmosphere and given it was Crawley with the coach incident I have an idea that this might be a reason for the move. When the lookers was still there I sat in both sides and the chaddy in one season and it didn't bother me where I sat because I still got to watch Oldham. I have since been in the RRE both small section and large section but honestly doesn't bother me where I sit and I certainly don't understand why you wouldn't come to support Oldham in a crucial game purely because you're spitting your dummy out about where you can or cannot sit. All opinion based but I think the Chaddy end can get rocking again with support and I understand that support grows in numbers when the team is playing well and winning but let's try our best eh and help the lads to get a much needed 3 points on Saturday regardless of where you sit!
  17. Booked on the train for Colchester, I paid 47 but I have heard that you can get them for 35, not to worry! OWTB
  18. I really don't know why because as bad as Saturday was I still think we'll survive...JUST We have 9 games left and based on that I think there are four worse teams than us I think we'll stay up. We have 5 at home and 4 away: Crawley (H) Leyton Orient (A) Brentford (H) Bradford (A) Colchester (A) Coventry (H) Carlisle (A) Sheff Utd (H) Notts County (H) I think we need 11 points to stay up, looking at those fixtures it is looking bleak but I think we'll snatch 11. I think we'll sneak past Crawley on saturday leaving us needing 8 points, I wouldn't be surprised if we knicked a point at Orient but will put that down as a loss for now, think we'll lose to Brentford, get a point at Bradford, nothing at colchester, beat coventry, draw at carlisle, lose to sheff utd and sneak past Notts County on the last game. This would leave us on 50 points, which I think will just be enough. How many points do you think we'll get and do you think we'll stay up?
  19. "I'll bring a bit of balance to the team with my left foot. I like to keep the ball, create chances and hopefully I can nick a goal or two." Joel Byrom's comments since joining. He does know that midfielders aren't allowed to go anywhere near the box and certainly not allowed to score goals? Keeping the ball bit is funny too, smith keeps the ball, sadly every pass goes backwards. That's for you negative people out there ;) I don't think he'll be a bad signing in all honesty, again famous last words. Give him a chance, looked alright at Stevenage so just give him a chance
  20. Of course he would have if the price was right but sticking by us means that he won't just sell to anybody, he wants to sell to a person or consortium that want to run a football club not to just anybody like bloody koukash! He isn't a fan but he has stayed when the others pulled out and he got Oldham out of the :censored: like you said so I think that in itself deserves a lot of credit. We are not operating to a loss, nor a massive profit so it's better than many of the 48 clubs in the bottom two tiers
  21. In theory I totally agree. The more investment you put in the better class of players you get however, in reality you can't do that in league one, that would be taking one huge risk, you could end up doubling the budget you worked to the previous season and finish say 6th, all very well that until you see the finances which would see us slump and make a huge loss. Football gets dangerous when you try and keep up with the spending of the big boys, in our case the likes of rotherham, peterborough, sheff utd, brentford and wolves and I really don't wish we did that if it meant risking losing thousands upon thousands chasing a position which wouldn't be sustainable.
  22. He was training with us, I presume he was helping with coaching and of course it was, we needed a centre back after tarky was sold it was deadline day and we brought wilson in which left us quite thin at the back. Lockwood was signed again probably to help with the coaching side of things (I know he did a lot with the youth cb's at bury when I was there) and thought that he could provide cover. As it turned out he was played, doubt he would be played all the time should kusunga be fit but that's the situation we are in
  23. I've not clapped a performance (other than Tranmere) for a while. I often don't say anything and just go at the end, pointless booing gets you nowhere. Why be negative? We severely lack ability but the team that started the season isn't at our disposal anymore which is massively disappointing. Philliskirk could be something special, again when he is match fit and on form but you don't have the same feel with philly as you had with baxter. As for the corney doesn't pay the bills 0000 who does then? Not gate receipts, we don't get enough to pay the bills alone. Corney may be tight but it is his money and it's his business so I think he has a right to! It's frustrating as a football fan and an Oldham fan but hey that's life and no matter who puts on a blue shirt we will still support them no matter what league they are in
  24. What's the option? Corney pulls out what are we left with then? Who pays the bills and keeps the club running? I think we should be thankful to corney for coming in 10 years and sticking around when his counterparts pulled out. Vendetta against Johnson, every point slates him, criticising him for things that he's either not done or things beyond his control. You've not really explained my points and i'm struggling really to see why you would get rid of him. At the time we were fine, playing with a bit of confidence, football sneaking in and were confident of getting results. Things have changed since then but these next 10 games we need EVERYBODY'S support to help us limp over the line and criticising him for half the things you have in my opinion is unjust but each to their own
  25. That's absolutely correct, it's not blaming them, it did probably energise baxter but also he has admitted getting his own performance wrong on a few occasions.
