  1. Tidser was very good and he'll have his chance soon as Kelly will be suspended due to five bookings in the next 2/3 weeks. Kelly has been fantastic since the Doncaster game. Kelly and Jones have a great partnership and this is proven by how many games this season we have dominated possession, Kelly wins it, gives it Jones, he distributes it!! The first time we've had that for a while
  2. Fallen out with the manager. Always looked a handful against us and this could provide even more strength in depth, great signing in my opinion, you'll no doubt however get some idiot saying 'send him back he's crap' after 180 seconds of being on the pitch
  3. Racchi has never been a defensive midfielder. I come on saying this a lot due to us signing quite a lot of ex Bury players but he was there when I coached there and played a bit part in the team out wide. However Mike Jones was at Bury as a winger so you know. Never really impressed me at Bury, looked too lightweight, may have bulked up now but don't think I would sign him as not sure he is any better than what we have already
  4. I know Joe Lolley, played in the same uni team when I played at UCLAN, class above he was, remember winning 8-2 he scored 4 and set up 4 and then had to go off because he was being called by the Kidderminster manager wanting him for a 6 week trial. Lolley I'm not sure would please a lot of people here, very much like wilkinson in the respect of unproven and young. A lot of Oldham fans want an experienced striker but I can't see for the life of me why to be quite honest
  5. James Dayton's goal was from open play on Tuesday, came initially from free kick but still in open play when he scored. We're 13th in the league, solid at the back and 5 games unbeaten, let's look at the positives
  6. When I played and worked at Bury three/four years ago we travelled down to Torquay and there were quite a few Bury supporters ejected for this (although I think there may have been another motive for this) This provoked supporters to riot against stewards and things turned ugly. Later on in the game after the trouble had finished, all Bury supporters were singing 'phone's out, we won't behave ourselves' before everybody pointing their phones and flash towards the pitch pretending to take photos. Torquay stewards didn't know what to do so left it. That is the only time I have see such trouble over such a little incident
  7. Agree with this! If he is fit he has to play, always got Morgan-Smith on the bench or even bove and move poleon out wide for the latter stages if needed! Any news on his injury, don't recall seeing anything
  8. Fair enough then if that was the case, I was sat down to the left so just saw him get ejected, sure he will learn from his mistakes as he missed a cracking second half!
  9. So three years ago for the last three home wins on the bounce, that doesn't fill me with much confidence haha, hopefully we will though and forgot about those three, thought the Carlisle game was inbetween them somewhere!
  10. Got an update from a family member of the first one chucked out (just after our second) was ejected for persistent standing on the aisles. I saw the steward go up two/three times, whether he warned him more than once I do not know. As much as persistent standing is an 'offence' at a football match I think it's a bit petty to be ejected for such a thing if supporters are not in any danger which no Oldham fans were. He was not arrested and the stewards escorted him out of the ground. I was then told things turned slightly heavy handed when the bother started right near the end. After the game this teen and their family members along with other Oldham fans were hurled abuse at by other Doncaster supporters (we were last out of the ground so didn't see it, just what I've heard) followed by being held in a corner by the police saying they were inciting the Donny fans. Oldham fans were then threatened by getting 'locked up in a cell' if they carried on and released them shortly after when the Doncaster supporters went. Anybody wishing to put together a letter of complaint can use this information and private message me if that is the case because I will pass on the name of the person who has told me all of this. All what I have heard not seen!!
  11. Odds are stacked against us for this one! When did we last win three home games on the bounce? (yes I am including the Bradford game) When did we last win three on the bounce in the league? Should we win we could (probably not) be going into Swindon away in a playoff position, that's way too high!! On the other hand: Gillingham are a team that you think a point would be a good result away but need to beat them at home We're playing well and creating plenty of chances! We're solid at the back (famous last words) I said that we wouldn't win all three, we've won two out of two but sadly think we'll draw on Saturday, hoping I'm wrong and we pull out another good performance and get three points!
  12. Don't disagree with the gambling bit but if you think that good strikers watch their line I think it makes a massive difference of how further up the pitch it allows the rest of the team to play. Poleon is very quick and looks like he has the knack of playing off the last defender very well. Just going a bit further back, Allan Smart was always offside and he was shocking!
  13. I coach a fair bit and even I never noticed how much difference there is in a game if a striker stays on side 90/95% of your attacks as opposed to 55/60% or even less. The thing that has made me notice this was more at Doncaster on Saturday which followed on to Bradford then onto Saturday against Fleetwood. JCH always used to get caught offside resulting in a lot of attacks breaking down due to him conceding an indirect free kick for being caught offside. Especially at the start of the season we struggled to create chances and struggled to play our game in the oppositions half due to this as well as other reasons. At Doncaster I can recall he was caught offside twice, either side of half time and the manner we played it really helped having a striker in an onside position, we created chance after chance and this in my opinion helped Jones and Kelly play further forward, enabling the defense to tighten up so we as a team played higher up the field instead of dreadfully deep. JCH had a great game at Doncaster and this helped him get sold on Monday night We then sign Poleon and he does exactly the same, from memory caught offside once in the first half and I didn't see any second half. Again allowing the team to play the game and create quite a few chances once again. Also thought Poleon pressured well and was very tricky on the ball and made some fantastic runs for through balls to be played from the midfield How high a team plays up the pitch is down to how well your attackers press on their defenders and we have done that fantastically over the last three games, resulting in three wins, we seem like a stronger unit but I do firmly believe having strikers staying in an onside position really does help create more attacks than what you might think. Has anybody else noticed the change from the start of the season?
  14. It's hard with contracts to be honest because contracts are only signed to protect the player and protect the clubs as in getting a good fee for them once they are sold. I would offer them all contracts this afternoon if it was down to me but for players to sign it they generally want a release clause which isn't always agreed. To do it at such a good time as after three wins is better than doing it after defeats but if talks break down then this is often found out and reported on by supporters so it is very tricky. This could see good relationships dwindle and also make the manager not want to play them so it's a tough one but definitely want to keep all the players at the club
  15. I'm all for giving youth a chance but you have got to be careful when you do it. We have a stronger squad this year in my opinion than we have had for a while. When things are going well like this you need to maintain and try to sustain the results coming in and Jack Tuohy for example, season ticket holder and local lad which is brilliant but we have players in the middle of midfield of Jones and Kelly, doing very well at the moment and also Dieng and Mellor on the bench, also winchester can play in the centre so when do you play him? JPT some will say, I would argue to try and go all the way, maybe blood them in games where you are well behind 2/3-0 or when we're winning comfortably? Not saying i'm right just think that will be the case.
  16. I do he has an old head on very young shoulders and that really shows that he has potential. He is very calm both when defending and when playing out from the back and is indeed very solid. Unlucky not to be in the Wales squad but their loss i'm sure will be our gain.
  17. There won't be that much pressure heaped on him. The emphasis on could means he believes in Poleon and says if he knuckles down and works hard, his just rewards will be similar to what assombalonga's success is. Time will tell but I think we've done a cracking bit of business. Interestingly, he was at Bury when I was coaching there a couple of years ago and seemed to remember that he did the 100m sprint in not much over 10 seconds, that against a tiring defense could kill teams!
  18. Yes our way, we try and play football on the deck, doesn't always come off but at least we give it a go and i'd rather watch that than see a team bully teams and hoofing the ball up to a massive striker. Worked for them in the league last season they finished about 12th and that's only because of a fantastic start. Next game have a look how many times rachubka kicks the ball out of his hands, you won't find many, their keeper, every time apart from twice kicked the ball to their blonde striker, the other two times he rolled it to mcardle who promptly followed suit and booted it as far up the field as possible. Being a coach in my spare time and working in the US coaching last year would be ashamed to tell a parent or other coaches that I taught a team to boot the ball 55/60 yards in the air towards a striker whether I won, lost or drew a game
  19. It's truly boring and I'd rather play our way. We'd all be moaning if we played like that, they were like that at Oldham last season, big, physical and launch the ball forward. Takes no skill to welly the ball 55 yards in the air down field to nobody!
  20. You do realise you're not allowed to give Kelly any credit on here! He's not Korey Smith remember!
  21. In the small amount of transfers I have dealt with (more so this summer) any sell on clause is a percentage of a permanent fee of the difference as to what was paid for him. This simplified, example: Richards gets sold for 100k from Oldham to City and he goes for 4m Oldham receive however much percentage of 3.9m, i'm led to believe that it is 20% (correct me if i'm wrong) I have dealt with two transfer this summer with a sell on clause from a lower league club. One was a permanent deal, a massive one! and the other was a loan deal with a small payment of which just went to the club the player played for at the time and nothing got given to the previous club. I very much doubt we will get anything from it, however it all depends what clauses and small print are in those clauses (I deal with some very, very weird ones)
  22. The first lad chucked out shortly after 60 minutes hadn't seemed to have done that much wrong, that said the steward had been up on his own a few times speaking to people at the top (not sure who) before making the decision this lad had to be escorted out of the ground for whatever reason. Not sure what went on then? The first of the lads to be man handled out of the ground down the exit tunnel (that they shut for exiting the ground at the end) seemed to be goading the steward at the bottom by keep 'attempting' to step on the barrier at the front (not doing much harm I know but any excuse for jobsworth stewards) and maybe warranted getting removed from the ground but not the treatment he seemingly had. The second lad that went to see what was going on I saw was pushed quite aggressively by the steward in question but couldn't see any reason for this, however I was quite high up in the stand to the left so I wouldn't be able to hear what was said. I think it could have caused a much bigger reaction from Oldham supporters if it was earlier in the game or if the game was dull but think most oldham fans saw straight through this to the excellent performance that went on on the pitch
  23. Wasn't aimed at anybody, it was a general statement of what I've heard many supporters say since it has started to go wrong
  24. It is slightly but like I said I can see glimpses with kelly, only slight ones and with JCH I would play him as other options don't look good enough to me, like bove, saying that if you wanted to chuck him now is the time Mills on the other hand I believe we have a stronger and more solid back four with the one I have given. All about opinions. I don't think Mills is that bad but his form at the start of this season hasn't filled me with much confidence either defensively or attacking wise
