  1. We're not on live television very often granted but highlights are shown on Sky Sports Score Centre and goals on that crap channel 5 programme so publicity isn't too much of an issue I wouldn't have thought. The reason I thought it would generate more income is because you can have multiple sponsors on the perimeter boards which would mean you could have more sponsors than the present static ones. I do stand corrected as I don't really have too much of a clue but I reckon perimeter boards provide more income and more advertising purely because all the premier league have them?
  2. I understand the annoyance and the upset that these 'underhand' tactics has brought, that said in the long term surely perimeter boards will bring in more revenue to the club than a scoreboard? I might be well off but sounds logical, I don't agree with the way it has been done and I certainly don't agree with how long this has taken but this surely generates more income...where that income goes is another matter up for discussion (which I won't bother going into)
  3. To be perfectly honest you would be surprised how many teams do this! A lot do it to cover player's wages at the end of the month and then forward the monies within 21 days (usually after a home game)
  4. You have seen Peterborough's scores and how they play? 0-0 and 1-0 doesn't exist in their mind
  5. I'm also at Haydock so hoping for the same outcome! That said I am optimistic, I've missed 3 away games all season - Gillingham (won 2-1), Blackburn (won on pens) and Walsall in Checkatrade also (won 3-1) Good record whilst i've been absent this season, hoping that continues! FWIW i'd go - Ripley, Law, Clarke, Wilson, Hunt, Green, Fane, O'Neill, McClaughlin, Holloway, Taylor (think somebody else mentioned that too) Anyway, have a good day tomorrow at Haydock, hopefully a few beers, an Oldham win and a couple of winners!
  6. Bradford set out very similar against us and looked impressive in my opinion. Thoroughly dominant in midfield as effectively had 6 in there with Law, Cullen, Dieng as the main 3. When Bradford went forward they had Marshall, Clarke and Hiwula acting as a front 3. They played that extremely well and had it well drilled throughout. With the team you say I think it could possibly work on the basis that Holloway is out and Ngoo not being fitted enough for 90 minutes. Not a bad idea I don't think
  7. I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with what I'm about to say which I guess is what forums are about but here's my take on all of this: Robinson was brought in and had 5 players contracted at his disposal, out of those 5 initial players 2 have played a few games, one has gone out on loan (Edmundson) and two released (Brown and Cassidy) and as such had to bring in a lot of players in a short space of time, we've signed 24/25 or so. Despite all of this I'm sure Robinson would have thought I need bodies rather than a small amount of quality players, almost using the first 6 months as an extended trial for many players, this is proven in my opinion with the amount of 1 year contracts given out. Along with signing so many players in such a short period of time he also needs to plan for the new season and get working with the players regardless of them coming in in dribs and drabs and as such was dealt with a mountain to climb immediately (I'm sure most will agree) We have been given mixed messages from the board and management staff with regards to season ticket sales, the budget as a whole and other things that all contribute to a struggle we are involved in until this present day. With the few contacts in football at League One level I have (from work and having friends who work/play at other clubs) I have managed to work out (more so through hearsay) of where our budget is likely to be when comparing us to the rest of the division. The budget we have I think, don't know (educated guess) is well in the bottom 4, if not the bottom in the division. This to me, comes as no surprise at all really, Corney says he wants to sell (I don't blame him) and as such won't put anymore money into the cause (if he did have any to give) and along with the manager being drafted in late I doubt he was given a lot of money in a budget to spend on players that really he wasn't as sure about as a manager should be, like I have said before signings had to be rushed. I think, Robbo is well within his rights to use the budget card as it probably is true especially when comparing to some of the teams in our league (top end like Bradford, Sheff Utd etc). If he does it as a cry for help so to speak for fans to give him time, again fair enough from me as he does in my opinion need a transfer window. Where I think Robinson misses a trick and a major sway in supporters is when he comes out with the 'x factor world' and 'instant success'. People in general life probably do want instant success and those at the top do too. However, he hasn't yet worked out that we (or rather I) don't demand instant success, I demand a team to go out on the field and try, work for the shirt and for me to come away not feeling cheated of an afternoon which on an occasion or two this season (Swindon and Rochdale) I have, just like I have under Dunn, Kelly and Holden previously. I choose to watch Latics at nearly every game, missed Gillingham this season and all checkatrade games and of course that's my choice, believe it or not I do enjoy it but I just want a manager to realise that we as Oldham supporters don't want instant success just slightly better than the dross we have been treated to more so over the last 2 years or so and for us to see some improvement and even some entertainment which I'm hoping will come (probably after January now!) I would give Robinson time (can see why people wouldn't) as I believe we have to stick at a manager at some point and chopping and changing will only ever get you so far. I believe in this squad we have quite a few talented players, more than last season (people will disagree!) in Ripley, Clarke, Flynn, Fane and McClaughlin and as such i'm hoping if Robbo can attract these players and spot a talent like these then I hope he can reshuffle in Jan and be able to find a couple more which again I'm hoping will provide us with more entertainment than 9 goals in 17 league games haha!
  8. I'll be there...on the coach with my girlfriend and a few others I know. Going certainly in hope rather than expectation, just hope we see 100% effort and give it their all, we fall short and get beat then fine, just want to see the team we had in the first month of the season back (meaning the pressing and winning 1st and 2nd balls which we have struggled with last couple of weeks)
  9. I disagree, I think Banks was improved at Coventry, spread the ball around nicely, that said it did help that Green did all the running and bossed the midfield! Tomorrow, I would go for: Ripley Dummigan Clarke Burgess Dunne Law Fane Green Flynn Erwin Ladapo Not that I'm a lover of Flynn, just think he would offer us a bit of a balance out on the left as Jahraldo Martin isn't fit yet as far as I'm aware, could possibly play Osei out there or even Croft (not his biggest fan mind)
  10. It's hardly 'covering up bad practice' not giving us minute by minute updates on a behind closed doors friendly. Carlisle obviously wanted to, we didn't, hardly the end of the world Games like this I'm sure you're aware is for match fitness for certain players, in this case Reckord, McClaughlin and Jahraldo-Martin and also to maybe have a look at a trialist or two? (None in squad yesterday as far as I'm aware though) Doesn't matter too much with regards to result but in all fairness they have provided what score it was and who scored on the website so does a behind closed doors friendly v Carlisle require anything more? Not for me but appreciate everybody is different
  11. They have their 10th winding up order in as many months, also on the list Nottingham Forest and Swinton Lions Rugby
  12. To answer your original post of which team is better, although results haven't shown it yet...this year's squad by a mile Reason I say this...which of the players that we had last season would get into this season's team? Kelly and that is probably about it! Maybe Forte should he have been fit (definitely no guarantee there) That is from 12 months ago which I'm assuming we are comparing ourselves to? On from that, Kelly and Dunn were absolutely clueless, Robinson seems like he actually has a plan, a plan and a brand of football that sadly quite a few wouldn't like but I quite enjoy seeing a team on the pitch that shows desire, determination and 110% effort (of which we didn't see in my opinion in plenty of games last season) Let's give this time, I'm sure you all agree that we have to stick with a manager sooner rather than later in order to progress at all
  13. I don't see why we shouldn't celebrate it? As a football club staying up isn't an achievement in itself but look at the facts of the season and where we were when Shez took over and we have to admit it is quite an achievement! We were singing we are staying up at Southend and rightly so, these players were brought in by Shez to battle against relegation and by the time he had got a resemblance of a team together we were 8 points behind having won 1 at home since the start of August. Should we confirm our league one status on Saturday I will celebrate, won't be on the pitch, no chance but I will stand on my feet and applaud the group of players, Sheridan and Shirtliff for a tremendous second half of the season after such dross over the past 18 months prior! I will look back on the season and think definitely one of two halves, ultimately fairly disappointing but at least with the second half being decent I can look forward to the summer, the Euro's and even more than that look forward to a start of the season in August Each to their own but I'd say, a fairly incredible achievement after seeing the squad so demoralised due to Kelly and Dunn Just remember though, Mourinho or Fergie couldn't sort this lot out
  14. To me, there's some baffling comments on here but football is all about opinions so I guess you get completely different views. Since Gerrard has come back the turnaround in form and being defensively sound I think speaks for itself, I do however believe Shirtliff should take a lot of credit for it but for people to call Gerrard I think is harsh. He is a clogger, he is basic and when he thinks about what to do with the ball he struggles quite a bit....That said, we are in League One, we are a club who were 3rd bottom when he joined and well adrift who were leaking goals left, right and centre and he alongside Brian Wilson (my MOM) have been steady and he has also helped Dieng develop into a decent centre back too when playing alongside him in my opinion. Brian Wilson was excellent, such a great professional, not a great player, lacks pace but his work ethic and professionalism is second to none, got send on trial to Notts County, comes back, plays a bit part but never lets Oldham down! Massive credit to him! Decent team performance and for me deserved the win, possibly another goal in it seen as though Chesterfield offered absolutely nothing but 3 points nonetheless and now reach over 40. Big games coming up and I'm still not sure, would take 4 points out of next 3 games of Swindon (H) Walsall (H) Barnsley (A)
  15. Flipping heck, word doesn't take long to get around Heard that they have not paid us or Rochdale for the tickets we gave them for their away fixture as of yet Bradford also had to chase them for payment Mum is a Bury fan and their trust is extremely worried, no bills seemingly being paid off what it looks like, transfer embargo almost a certainty hence signing 3 on loan on Friday, accounts not published (rule used to be, 10 point deduction should they not be published by 31/03 each year? Not sure if same now) Could they be dragged into the relegation mix?
  16. I find this quite a tough one I always think he puts in 110%, highlighted by chasing balls into the corners that really he shouldn't get near but makes defenders play at it which in itself is great play as you retain possession of the ball (generally starting with a throw in to Oldham) As for his goals record, it isn't great, however we haven't really created too much really and the final ball (other than Palmer's) still isn't good enough. Holloway is a major positive in my eyes yet all a lot of people see is that he hasn't scored so must be crap, people go off stats way too much and don't understand that different players offer different attributes and contribute in different ways Main, has missed a couple of sitters but with Poleon out injured (I would be interested to see how he plays alongside Holloway!) and the other two not really buying into working defenders hard and making the ball stick up front there isn't really an alternative unless you play a 3rd centre midfielder? Think he's okay and I tend not to fault players if they give it everything whilst having an Oldham shirt on and Main gives it everything everytime he plays so no complaints from me
  17. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he changed formation, 352 I think he may go: Coleman Dieng J.Wilson B.Wilson Dummigan Lafferty Kelly Jones Winchester Forte Murphy However playing 442 think he would go with: Coleman Dummigan J.Wilson Dieng Lafferty Winchester Jones Kelly Forte Murphy Cassidy
  18. Newport Just put the following on twitter: #OAFC set to announce the return of John Sheridan as manager shortly...Press Conference at 2:30pm tomorrow
  19. I would have thought a few would, quite a few do at the club I work for which is two leagues lower than what we are in Like I said that is the figure I'm lead to believe, whether it is correct I don't know but 27k and hopefully a kind draw would do wonders with the obvious 'cashflow' problem at present
  20. That's presuming it includes bonuses, relating to appearances and also wins (don't do that much)
  21. Off what I've heard whilst I've been out and about working within football I'm lead to believe it is in the region of 33/34k a week
  22. Having read through these comments on the thread I am generally one of the more positive supporters and people who know me would back that up. However there are times where I get sick of it (not very often) and do have a go. Over the past 2 years I've had a go twice! At MK Dons when we got thumped albeit against a great side 7-0 because of the manner we lost the game, we lost that game by giving up and yes I hurled abuse at them as they came over at the end but the next day thought to myself: At least they acknowledged the support that stayed until the end watching an absolute hammering and seemed to show a bit of remorse for the pathetic display (even if they felt like putting the V's up to supporters) Onto Crewe, the second time I have joined in with the 'negative' songs AT THE END (not during the game) I did that due to the manner we got beat, not because we had lost to bottom of the league. The manner in which we were beaten was awful! and that was plain to see with the stats! 1 shot on target and that term should be used loosely may I add. I had a go as a collective effort, from the top right through to the players. Must admit having looked at the video it gets more toxic when it was clear they had no intention of even glancing at the supporters who had been largely supportive (especially in the section I was in) for certainly 85 minutes of the game. Just a thought I had, if they had played so poorly but drew 0-0 or won 1-0 they would have been straight over taking the plaudits so it has to work both ways I'm afraid Just my opinion like and people may disagree, comments and abuse doesn't help but surely frustration can be accepted after the dross we have watched for the last 9 months or so and I've only missed Gills away this season and Bradford at home during that time
  23. A start would be playing at least one player within 35 yards of our lone striker in Poleon Can't possibly set out tonight with 2 holding midfielders and a flat back 4!
  24. It sure is but I want a football match at Oldham Athletic to go to on a Saturday Afternoon for many years to come...Bolton on the other hand may not have that chance so for the sake of a couple of good European away games I'd rather not thanks
  25. to be honest that would create great memories however for the sake of a long term future of sustainability I would rather be in our position than theirs
