The great Ricky Holden used to cross the ball early, quite often not even attempting to beat the defender - he also scored a few too.

    * mind you, putting the ball into the box early is only successful if the strikers get in there too!

True, him and Beckham didn't need to beat their man to whip a cross in but both varied them quite a bit, something Kitching doesn't do.

I think the way they have done it keeps it nice and simple from an accounting point of view. If we sell out, say 14,000 tickets, that equates to £14,000. If however, the money paid across via ticket sales and donations is, for example, £150,000 then even someone like me with CSE maths can figure out it's £136,00 straight to Frank's chosen charity.

All gate receipts are being donated by the club.

One of the biggest mysteries to me is how ineffective Mark Kitching is as a wingback compared to how well he played as a fullback when he used to bomb on regularly. He is a player who we've nullified since going three at the back.

He rarely beats a man ( but still gets his crosses in ) and hasn't the pace to chase back but is probably still out most creative player going forward ! 😒

He also doesn't seem to change his deliveries much, but then again we seldom get a man across the near post so his options are limited.

We still seem to be trying to play with wing backs when there aren't any on the books ( maybe Benny ) just to accommodate our numerous centre halves.

I’m sure they’ll be a few who buy tickets and don’t show, but surely there won’t be too many who do that. Why would you go out of your way to buy a ticket with no intention of going? If it was just to donate then surely it’d be just as easy to go to the go fund me page to do that.

Don't you pay a premium if you donate via "Go Fund Me"?

I've given a couple of months ago and sure I had to pay a couple of quid over the intended donation.

Walker was a David Eyres recommendation, he must be miffed at why he's not considered when the team is crying out for pace and direct runners.

David Eyres is his agent but agreed he should have more time on the pitch.

I'd sooner him come on than Green on Saturday but maybe Melon is confirming Green is not in his plans ?

I’ve been seeing loads of references to talking the ball on the half-turn (at least three times over the past few pages of this thread).

Please can someone educate this football-tactics dimwit as to what this means in practice?

Not being directly facing the teammate passing you the ball thus enabling you to turn towards the opposition goal and pass to another teammate further upfield or (saints preserve us) have a shot on goal !!

What options does the ordinary fan have, when at a game, to express his/her displeasure when witnessing a horror show out on the pitch?

Watching the first half against Woking was embarrassing  - do the fans just accept it?

Maybe, instead of booing, we could adopt the white hankie approach used by Spanish fans? Or turn our backs to the pitch when the players are trooping off?

Nah… I may not boo individuals but the team as a whole are fair game…😳

Not disputing anyone's right to show their displeasure however they wish I was just attempting to show I was not one of the "Nuttall Boo Boys".

Horses for courses. I've no issue with Mellon not including players because he prefers runners. If Nuttall doesn't fit in with that then it's of course best for him to go and play somewhere more suited to his style.

I also don't have an issue with fans who prefer runners, we all have our own preferences. But what I do have an issue with is fans who declare a player as too lazy to be a footballer or talk in absolute terms about their mental state or desire or laziness. It's this sort of talk that leads to players getting booed on, or cheered when their number goes up on the subs board.

I've defended Nuttall since his arrival to people sitting near me at BP and never booed my team or any of it's players but some footballer's attitudes don't help their cause.

All that seems to be about what you want to see from a striker.

Different strikers will have different styles. He didn't fit in with our fans and the way he was played didn't work that well. Clearly Darrell Clarke in league one thinks he might work out for them and he's got a decent record as a manager.

Not the be all and end all showing a bit of desire.

If someone was playing shit and swanning about but still scoring goals then OK, but to do the first bits and not score much, if at all, is next to useless.

I'm still of the opinion that we never made best use of Nuttall and I don't think he's a bad player per se. On his debut he received a superb cross from the right hand side at Notts County which he clinically buried. He rarely received service like it. His style is languid, he won't run through brick walls for you but if the ball's put in Lee Johnson's famed "corridor of uncertainty" he'll normally bury it.

Hope he does well and revives his career.

So do I but to suggest his poor performances can be excused by the team's style of play is stretching it quite a bit.

Agreed his style is languid but it's is a very poor one for a central forward. They need to be busy chasing balls into the box or holding up the ball waiting for support, none of which he's seemed capable of. He has no great desire to score goals which is a pre-requisite in a centre forward.

Since Norwood arrived I've seen him slide in against the goalie whilst scoring against Chesterfield and follow up Dickenson's shot at Gateshead ending up in the back of the net with a defender, showing a yearning for goals that sadly Nuttall lacks. I can't remember Nuttall being off his feet much in any match.

I hope I'm wrong but he looks to lack the basic instinct to be a footballer.

Pleased for them both to get moves away. Never really understood why Nuttall got mostly grief and Willoughby got mostly sympathy for being treated badly. Is it the running around thing? Is it the perception that Willoughby is a young player with potential? (Nuttall is only 5 months older)

I would expect a couple more departures now the EFL window has closed. Shelton and Reid to NL clubs maybe?

Shelton does surprise me that he hasn’t had a look in at all under Mellon. Not sure how different he is to Lundstram.

Difference is Nuttall has had plenty of chances and cruises through games and Willoughby's chances have been limited and he seemed to put a bit of effort in.

Many reckon Fondop is a useful impact player off the bench so I  think he'll still have a part to play this season.

In the longer term, Dallas is only on loan so I  can't see MM  starting next season with only two veterans up front in Norwood and Garner. Expect to see big Mike gone and two younger strikers in.

Garner gets 60 minutes then Fondop comes on. 👍

Sorry. Did someone speak to you? My point directly related to the player in question and the difference between standing out against kids and then playing v men. I don't see what you're taking issue with here.

Suppose we'll never know unless the lad gets a game.

I've not seen him play but would hope he's amongst those kids who get a chance when we're comfortably in the play-offs.

As you say it's a bit different playing men's football, as Sachdev is finding out presently.
