  1. Walking into NCAA college football at ANZ stadium in Sydney Australia I walk past a guy in his late 60s who has been following Oldham since mid 1950s wearing an Oldham athletic hat. I took a photo but how do I post here stopped and chatted for five minutes.
  2. My pleasure. You make sure you get to more games than you have been ;) It's great that sport can provide a commonality, and I know it's at a good home. One day I'll make it to a game at BP. Funny how I've had a shirt and followed for 25 years and just felt yeah he deserves that shirt.
  3. Only one I have! it fits just - purchased by my father when he went there for work - used to deal with Oldham batteries over at Denton. Drove across manchester to club shop to get it for me. Nearly got last years shirt - but decided against it. Stay up ill buy next years if i like the colour. Sadly my trips to UK are in summer - well been there once and will come again. Next year might be across in february though
  4. Yeah i got one in oz - have to check size tonight. What you after it for? happy to send - takes about two weeks to get there though
  5. Over here in Oz - where you only need a scarf about 2 weeks a year, the rugby league supporters section of The Rabbitohs did this https://www.facebook.com/theburrow38/posts/623709147656679 No club emblems, no SSFC or Rabbitohs. SImple. Stripes ran long wise - not across. We got 2 - only complaint is it looks great on my Miss 8, lousy on the Mrs. as its too short. Anyway my 2 pence worth.
  6. I agree with the first post in general. Bugger the cups, want to get a roll on banking 3 points at every home game, 3 points away against bottom half and draws the rest. Done hard yards in October and November, now let's really solidify that top 6 slot. Those tykes in late December haven't got a duck egg in them in defence, they are leaking goals. Let's hope they haven't sacked their gaffer by then.
  7. Need to adapt to the circumstances of the match at hand. Playing fixed strategies doesn't bode well for long term success. That being said I like the home/away side combo a few posts above. I'd probably say 2 points were dropped on weekend, fell victim to a side who scouted us well? I personally prefer the wingback swooping wide in attack for width and the long crosses and angled back in passes.
  8. Kippers eh, hope the wind blows the right way so opposition gets a whiff of our fish breath..... Next it will be baked beans on toast and both ends will be taken care of.
  9. I know I wouldn't give a free kick the other way for a indirect free kick taken in the wrong spot without a warning. Not a fight worth picking. Insofar as the 6 yard box, any indirect free kick inside it to the defensive team must be moved out to the 6 yard line. If there is a question of whether the whole of the ball was outside the box or not before a player touched it, I tend to err on the premise of being totally satisfied the whole of the ball has left the box. Easier to deal with a retake. In the end I know I make errors in refereeing because simply I don't have the best view.
  10. I can't attempt to explain players stupidity, I just try as a referee to prevent my own.
  11. Throw in or corner (provided the ball left the box for the corner) Basically the ball is not in play until it leaves the box. In this instance of an indirect free kick inside the box, you could turn around and kick it into your own goal and it would be a corner. (assuming referee knew that aspect) A goal kick kicked into your own goal is retaken. Smart teams use this as a delaying tactic from goal kicks as well it would be a brave referee to give a caution first up (unsporting behaviour the only sanction possible) The Laws of the Game are a good read (138 pages including explanations) When you have been referee to FIFA ExCo member twice in 2014 you better know the Laws ....
  12. If in own box, retake. From a "dead ball" restart inside your own box, eg goal kick, free kick the ball is not in play until it leaves the box.
  13. Might have to come over and show Doris a good time then while your out lagering up lol
  14. They obviously have a ladies day right? Females in for free with a paying ticket of the same category ...... Oh yeah thats discrimination - how about 2 for 1 and you are "encouraged" to bring a female. Have a few people doing manicures, 2 minute massages, etc. That might be best once the new stand is open as you could have a function in one of the rooms as well
  15. Look i'd rather take the wins in JPT while we can - some more cash for the club. January is January too far away as far as I'm concerned, bank points now. Bove will get a go soon enough. From what I see "we" need more wins, so we go into December riding a wave. no im not moaning about 8 games undefeated, just like a few more 3 pointers. ANYTHING to be above those Tykes at end of season.
  16. "showbags" is Aussie slang for cheap crap products that are particularly useless.
  17. Over in Oz you get caps, keyrings and other "showbag" type stuff as a ST holder. Perhaps a ST upgrade every match? - have a spot right behind the players bench of say 6 seats. Club does a draw 20 minutes before the kickoff and you get "upgraded" to this spot for the game. Maybe they have something like this ( i dont know never been to BP).
  18. Not sure if you guys have it there or not but football doubles but they have them at the rugby league here in Australia Basically there are 12 numbers per side (11 starting and the subs) or how many you want (11 starting + 12, 13 etc for order of subs) - home and away. They are sealed up - so you pay a $1 per "ticket" and you have first scorer home and away. If you get both ( you dont pick your numbers just a random thing sealed away) you get $100. If no goals the winner would be whoever has #1 (ie the goalkeeper) Many clubs use that for fundraising for charity but just an idea to toss up from a long way away.
  19. You never want to devalue the ST holders - so cutting prices isnt the way. Weekends where the PL dont play is best opportunity to get those who normally sit and watch the idiot box to get off the comfy chair and out to BP. Realistically, until the North Stand is finished you shouldnt spend anything more than usual on marketing and promotion as you would like to bring "new" fans in and see the redevelopment etc. Anyway, its all about scoring goals, playing for the shirt and never say die and stopping the daft stuff and the crowds will get in.
  20. Did duck egg for Newcastle last season in A League. Be a step backward IMHO. Pull a middle aged fat bloke from the crowd and put him on £5,000 a week and you would get better value for money.
  21. Do they sell 3 or 4 game passes? Pardon my ignorance here if the do. Come up with a slogan to sell 3-4 home games in a row. Going to the football is a habit thing, and if you can get that habit happening well all well and good. Likewise, how about regulars inviting someone who doesn't come along. Just to enjoy the atmosphere of live football. But hey I live 15,000 miles away so don't know enough. All I know is when I read results the next morning.
  22. So the players wash their shirts after every match because they dont have enough new ones made? Do they have a round robin system where 1 takes them home and brings them to training for the manager to bring to ground on match day ........ Wonder what quantity they are producing - or are the factors beyond their control quality related given posts about pulled threads
  23. One swallow doth not summer make. Anyway September us usually a month we do well in so with that knowledge, and the number of home fixtures coming up, I expect to see some movement upwards in the table. Give me more incentive to plan my trip in February /March lads.
