  1. That’s a fair point about symbolism. But it does depend from which perspective your looking at it. What does his situation symbolise in your view? The only damaging perspective I can see is from potential signings, but you put enough money in front of most players (particularly at our level) and I would argue they wouldn’t give a toss about Wheater’s ‘treatment.’ From my fan perspective I couldn’t care less about a player who was bang average, who played in a side that finished bottom six, and while playing last season was very poor value for money in a limited budget. If the player was our top scorer I may feel differently. Why? Because I’m fickle and I just want a winning football team. Brush what things? A private dispute between a player and the club. That has got nothing to do with you, I or anybody else.
  2. Yeah, your last paragraph is spot on. I suppose there is a marked difference between academic intelligence and emotional intelligence.
  3. I’ll rephrase. I’m suprised people still dissect Karl, when it’s blatantly obvious why he’s contradicting himself, and further that people still think this is a solely ALMO issue. It just isn’t, it happens regularly at clubs when players and clubs fall out. We asked him to compromise. He said no. Both sides blame each other, and Karl gets to look silly playing piggy in the middle. That’s it. We just need to move on. The issues are far bigger and deeper than one player IMO.
  4. I can’t believe people still comment on Wheater. Of all the problems at the club his situation isn’t one of them. I’ll have a listen later Dublin, cheers.
  5. Fair enough. Seeing as though our wage bill is reportedly less a million that sounds about right.
  6. I think there’s definitely an element of that, but even so- he still has to find circa 40 wages of players and club staff every month. Even with EFL help and the bits of cup money we’ve had, he still must be running a massive loss. . and yet we signed another player this week. .
  7. I can’t believe we haven’t had similar statements to be honest. Or the usual reports of late wages. Bizarrely it’s quieter in crisis than in the normal times.
  8. Just a correction- under the embargo he could have moved Gerrard on- he chose Clarke. . . He was probably forced at gun point by AL to make that call. As for Swindon- I take your point that any manager wants to keep the squad together. But football dictates you can’t keep spending, (particularly with covid) so work with you’ve got??? No, they’re got good enough for me. So I’m off. As for Salford- I think he’ll take them up. But I bet you a quid his ‘ambitions’ and the class of 92 ‘ambitions’ will be his undoing. Again.
  9. Aye- in the exactly the same way he had a go at AL in the January for not signing Matt Mills- after letting Peter Clarke go and getting 6 of his own signings. He got the best backing of any manager in AL tenure- and still couldn’t buy a win in the last eight. Non of it was his fault though. He went to Swindon and did well, to leave saying shit like that- just lacks class and shifts blame IMO.
  10. Richie claiming to Swindon press the club didn’t match his ambition. . . Now where have I heard that before. #neverrichiesfault
  11. Good post. I think you’re probably right. A winning run would quieten the mob, but only temporarily. As soon as that run ended the knives would be out again. The sustained success required for fans to forget about the off field or give him a chance is beyond us, for the simple reason that he can’t keep his nose out. That being said. Any improvement is still welcome.
  12. Spot on Wardie. If we start doing well the last thing on my mind will be them two herberts, red fleece or the latest board member appointee. It will be singing E I e I e o!!! God- I miss that.
  13. Agreed. The only possible reason he stays is because in his own bizarre perverse way- he loves it. The ego, the kudos, ‘the power’. His biggest own goal though has been his football decisions recruitment/appointing his brother/sacking managers/interfering. All of which has lead to awful football and results. If he had got that right from the start I don’t think there would be the focus on him that there is today. Winn some games and forget he owns the club. If only he could see the merit in that.
  14. Absolutely. As daft as it sounds I think people forget that we have been absolutely dreadful at football for a long time. It’s no wonder fans look for every contributing factor as to why we are so shit. We are no different to any other club in that respect. City fans used to say one of shittest things about becoming amazing was that there was nothing left to moan about in the pub anymore. That rings true for us at the opposite end of the spectrum. We are so starved of anything to celebrate it feels impossible to positive.
  15. When has AL had a good run results? Never. Whose fault is that. His. Has he taken steps to correct that- yes. Lets just see how much noise there is if we go 8 unbeaten.
  16. Yeah, I could have qualified that better. I don’t think everything will fall into place if the football is right. Our problems won’t magically go away, nor will good results mean AL is suddenly a changed man. But. A lot of the noise will go away or be conveniently forgotten about if results pick up. AL has never had results to protect him from the mob. I think we could do ok this year, and for the time in his tenure things could be looking up ON the pitch. It will be very interesting to see if people are so consumed by how we are run off the pitch, if/ when results are good. If the history of every fickle fan up and down the country is anything to go by, I will be correct.
  17. People keep feeling the need to explain that to me - without understanding my point. Coincidence? I’m simply saying- people ‘care deeply’ about staff - when we are losing. Then when we are winning the board goes quiet. What does that tell you about fans mentality??? It tells me that all matters is the football, get that right and everything else follows. As you say AL has failed spectacularly to get that right- so we all pretend we care about somebody we’ve never met. It’s bollocks. People wouldn’t give a second thought to staff if we were winning regularly.
  18. People are only interested in some staff members termination because the football/results has been awful. Watch how quiet the board goes if Kewell starts well- Does that mean people care less about the staff when we win?
  19. When AL buys shit players, sacks mangers every two minutes and ostracises big earners - it pisses me off. When he sacks an MD and replaces her- I couldn’t care less.
  20. That post is NOTED. . . and while I’m here. . By your reasoning this week (which I fully agree with) Wellens in his time here was shit and Bunn was ok.
