I have been told the same about Barnes and Mcateer. Thats who they want......

:laught16: That's who they actually want? Celtic's worst ever manager and someone who even Chester City seem to have got rid of?

Didn't think i'd ever see the funny side in Steptoe's comments after Tranmere beat us at BP but maybe he spoke too soon:

“It was a surprise to see John Sheridan leave. He’s another one. He got them to the play-offs, finished eighth last season and they have hardly been out of the top six and he gets the sack.

“May be they don’t want successful managers here. Something doesn’t seem right.”

Payback's a bitch, eh? Edited by rosa

RONNIE MOORE admitted last night he was “astonished” after being sacked as manager of Tranmere.

Moore went into a meeting with Rovers owner and chairman Peter Johnson yesterday expecting to discuss plans for next season – and walked out soon afterwards without a job.

“Nothing in football should surprise me any more but I must say I am astonished by what happened,” Moore said. “It was not what I was expecting after the season we’ve just had.”

Tranmere missed qualification for the League One play-offs by just a couple of points. They sustained their promotion challenge to the last game of the campaign, when a late goal from Scunthorpe edged them out of a top-six finish.

A club statement suggested a fall in attendances over Moore’s three seasons in charge was a reason for the change in manager.

Johnson said: “We now need to focus on next season and we will start the process of finding a new manager immediately.”

Moore’s immediate focus is on his wedding next week. The 56-year-old is to marry Angela, his partner of the last seven years, on Thursday and is due to go ahead with a stag night with friends in Rotherham on this evening.

He joked: “I think I’ll have good reason to knock a few drinks back this weekend!”

Moore served Tranmere as a player, captain, coach, assistant manager and manager over a period spanning more than 35 years and had been in charge of team affairs for three seasons, finishing ninth, 11th and seventh in League One. His current rolling contract was due to run until next June. He said: “I am proud of what I have done a Tranmere. I think I can walk away with my head held high.

“To get within a few minutes of the play-offs this season was a very good achievement when you consider the resources at our disposal.

“We were unbeaten in the league at Prenton Park from October onwards and only Leeds United have a better home record than us.

“Some of the performances in those home games were magnificent. Some were not so brilliant but we ground out the results. It was a pleasure to be involved with that team and to witness the football we played on occasions.

“I believe we were going along the right lines. We were trying to play attractive, attacking football. At the shareholders annual meeting two weeks before the end of the season I was told we were doing a great job.”

Moore had already made his first summer signing, recruiting Mark Allott from Oldham this week, and was lining up a replacement for assistant manager Peter Shirtliff when he arranged to see Johnson yesterday.

He said: “I thought we were going to have a conversation about where we were up to for the summer but unfortunately it was the bad news for me.

“I know season ticket sales are down and the home support last season was down to about 5,800. But I don’t think you can fault the playing side for that because the team we were putting on the pitch was doing the job. I think what happened is a little bit harsh but the club want to go down a different route. Maybe they are looking for a more high-profile manager – I don’t know.

“Maybe they think people like that might attract more season ticket sales and that could happen.”

All sounds remarkably familiar <_<

While I am it, "hey ladies!".

He still doesn't get it does he...... people like to think they have been entertained and had a good day out when they've forked out their £20.
