Boundary Park plans give new squad boost

Recommended Posts

Those damn webmonkeys have just changed the headline story on official site. I swear that it originally said the following -

"Oldham Athletic have today announced that detailed plans to implement the next phase of squad building for the Boundary Park team have been submitted to a number of Premier and Championship sides.

The scheme submitted is a joint venture by the Football Club and well known Bury based John Wardle.

Following the granting of the outline consent for squad rebuilding in July 2009, changes in the performance of the playing squad have lead to a rethink of the strategy for the team. It is proposed to sign a mixture of defenders who can defend, goalkeepers who are agile and not beaten from 20 yards out together with a striker who can hit the back of the onion bag.

The first stage of the scheme involves the signing of two central defenders behind the midfield who can defend, don't slip continuously on their backside and more mobile than an oil tanker. These defenders proposed are similar to those fondly remembered but sold on and now play for Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic plus a keeper who graced our pitch on the short-term but now between the sticks at Sheffield Wednesday.

The joint venture has been put together by Managing Director Simon Corney, Chief Executive Alan Hardy and John Wardle and is seen as the best way forward for developing playing fortunes to ensure that recognition achieved from promotion to the Championship assists in the funding for the new stadium."

I then tried to read the rest of the article but there was a server error and then replaced the article below. I promise you it was true, I promise ya!

And just like that...it disappeared

at the risk of sounding all corporal jones-esque, reading that on the fish site it again says 'self sufficency'. now, we were always told that this would be helped by a hotel possibly with a casino, key worker housing, office rentals, conference suites and maybe housing rentals. as these lines of profit are not implemented into the new scheme, i would like to know where the self suffiency comes from? has it been said by anyone at the club? otherwise this self suffiency can clearly not be at a level required for promotion(s) up the football league ladder.

These revenue streams wont exist but the club will still be self sufficient, just in the lower divsions.

Also, BP costs us £480k a year in maintenence, so most of our losses, don't you know?

without nowing the figures its impossible to make an accurate guess. but could it just be that with the casino and hotell we would have been self sufficent and be bringing in 2 million profit a year where as without the casino and hotel we will only be self sufficent and make 500k profit these numbers maybe and probably will be miles out because i just made them up but you get the idea

I am worried....

Surely we should have a very clear understanding of what we will be getting at the Failsworth site before they start selling off the land and building houses. Seems like its being rushed now with little consultation.

Alarm bells going off over here....

Why? If we stay at BP or move to New Zealand, that land is getting houses built on it.

So there isnt a possible (even though remote) situation where someone else takes over and stops that from happening ?

There’s still enough land to build an ambitious 16,000 seater mega-dome which will propel us into Europe, plus a hotel, shops etc etc etc, even if someone else took over why would they not bother to raise millions from using the land beside it to build houses on?

But we only have ONE shot at doing this... if TTA do it now.. Then for some reason they leave / things dont work out... We wont have a second shot...

I trust TTA as far as I can throw them these days. Considering how many times they have stopped strarted projects and ideas I dont trust them....

Can't get the land built on quick enough, can they? Despite having plenty of their own money to use in building and could easily recoup at a later date. Most likely when the economy has recovered. We know nothing of Failsworth and their Stadium plans yet people are seemingly happy to see BP built on before we more. People really do need to open their eyes to Project Brassbank!!!

But what do you actually want them to do?

What I want / liked was the original Oldham Arena plans...

I want something similar to that and on that scale...

What I want from the TTA is to deliver something like that or look to sell us to someone who can realise that. I dont think the failsworth proposal (or what I know about it so far) is all that great....

Thats what I want...

Even if TTA's intentions are sinister (which I don't believe), what could we realistically do about it anyway?

TTA can not do anything without planning permission.... So for a start we could lobby the council...

We could get media attention... They wont want bad publicity...

Boycot games...

I dont know... But its not good enough just to sit back and do nothing crying in our milk...

Thats if people feel the same way I do at the moment...
