That all sounds very plausible to me.

The transfer fees are realistic for our level; club size & prior transfer fee history.

Like all these things though; believe them when the ink has dried & the OS posts up confirmation. Entirely plausible as you say though.

Im struggling to believe that we'd be able to a) attract Crofty back, b ) that Guidetti would want to come to us, and C) that we'd spend £100,000 on a player. I'll believe it when it happens.

selling ourself short again...

up until stephens left he was our leading scorer....if keiran lee hadnt won all the honours furman would have got them so 25ok for him is low...taylor finished the season as our top scorer..and 400k is also very low...believe it when i see it....lose 3 of our best players for under a million...bolloks....

Quarter of a million for a promising young midfielder who has been team captain, scored over 10 goals from midfield and who is contracted to the club until 2014 is a joke

It depends what the club consider as a good enough offer. Alan Hardy conceded on Late Kick Off that the club arent in a position to turn down 'reasonable offers' for players. If the prices quoted are true then I think the club will accept them. Not saying i agree with the fees, but that is the harsh reality of where we are at the moment. The way we gave up on trying to get a decent fee for an International (be it only Wales) like Neal Eardley showed all i needed to know about what 'reasonable offers' are.

thats the thing though...what constitutes a reasonable offer???

like has been said team captain, contracted till 2014...scores goal from midfield... considering what trottman went for then we are underselling him for that amount

we know we are and always have been a selling club...its how we survived for so long...as long ago as wayne harrison to liverpool.....but we dont have to sell for the first reasonable offer to come along...we have never really got money we deserved for players, its about time we dug our heels in and insisted on proper decent amounts...

If we were financially ok then I'd agree. We need money, £250k is not a lot of money if Southampton want Stephens but if there are no other offers on the table for anyone else then we might have no other option.

We lost £1 million last financial year, we don't know how much we have lost this year and with no real financial backers anymore we're a quite stuck in what else we can do.

Difference with Eardley was though that he had 1 year left on his contract, and made it clear he wasnt going to sign another deal, hence we risked losing him for nowt.

Stephens has another two years left. We could easilly command a fee for 400k or so with add ons and a sell on clause, which is hardly going to break the bank for any championship club

It all depends on who blinks first. Other clubs know we need to sell, so they'll bid low. I'm more inclined to believe we desperately need the money than we're pathologically incapable of negotiation.

A player is only "worth" what someone will offer and we're willing to accept. Not a penny more. Stephens is only worth £400,000 if we can afford to knock back lower bids.
