Or prozac pays OAFC (the greater need and all that!) and gets his pick of the leftovers AFTER Gordon!

slystallone
I guess this bit will blow away some of the 'small budget' theories: We had a very high budget this year, people would be surprised if they sat down and looked at it. Brought in close to 20 players through loans and transfers after the season started. Some are very well paid, and we got no breaks. Paid incredibly, full whack to Prem clubs for players on loan. Thought the benefit to the kids careers would mean we wouldn't have to pay the lot. Brooke out on loan being heavily subsidized by the club. Could argue it's bad negotiation, but if manager identifies player and the Prem club want the full wages then there's not much that can be done. Will be a reduction next year, but compared to what we spent thinks we'll be OK I'm actually amazed we have paid in full; or a very sizable amount of the total wage for these kids on loan. I expected that we would have been paying dam near full whack for the loan deals for Robbie Simpson & Nathan Clarke. Hudds surely wouldn't have been so 'kind' and let us have them for nothing or a pittance. They are 25 and 27 (IIRC?) and established players, & those type of players, well, they are rarely are let out on loan without a sizable contribution towards their wages. BUT - for Adeyemi? For Scapuzzi? Mancini? Brown? Bunn? Tonkara? - Really? Wow is all I can say. Lads of 18, 19 & 20 - making their first strides in the pro game; here on loan but being paid in full? Jeez. I think it's pretty clear my feelings on Tom Adeyemi anyway, but to find out it appears we were paying full whack to have him here takes the biscuit. As a "free" player, it would have made his time here passable - 45 games on loan but not covered by us; well - as much as I didn’t rate him; at least it didn’t cost us for the privilege of watching him run about a lot. But - it seems we were indeed paying full hit to have that privilege. OMG is all I can say on that. Full hit for Bunn? For Brown? Jeez. I've not been naïve enough to buy into this bottom 4 budget malarkey - I thought it was obvious that couldn't be true with the likes of Kuqi (granted subsidized for a time with playershare), Diamond, Wes…and then Simpson, Clarke on loan etc. And, when you compare other clubs to us; those of the ilk of Exeter, Rochdale, Wycombe, Yeovil…I would hazard a guess at Stevenage, Bury & Walsall too - really, there was no way we were ever bottom 4 bracket for budget. It's nice to hear Corney come out and bust that myth; but I fear he's just opened a whole can of worms in doing so for his manager. PD has been given a lot more grace than other managers have, IMO namely because he's handled himself in a very professional manner & he seems a thoroughly decent bloke - But also, more crucially, because he's been said to be working under a very small, tight & restrictive budget. "what more can he do with no budget" or "he's doing a very creditable job with no money to spend" etc. It appears now doesn't it that those type of comments no longer hold much sway. That's only going to add to the pressure, the murmurs of discontent etc…..ahead of an important summer and the new season.

I agree the budget is better than we thought, but only imo because of the Stephens money, TV money x 4 (Mongs, Setanta v Liverpool, Chesterfield and Sheff Wed) and the Liverpool receipts, and bearing in mind most of the :censored:e we brought in, there should be plenty left over still, if not Dickov wants shooting for bringing in overpaid :censored:e, and young :censored:e at that. However, Dickov has been able to bring in 24 players during his two seasons in addition to the 15 or so he brought in in the close season(s). 40+ players, and have we truly moved on since Shez left? rudemedic
unless Browns big brother bought him his car I think he will be Wes Brown will be on around £60k pw at Sunderland (that's what he was on at United). A £30k car is half a weeks wages for his older brother- don't think it will be that much of a stretch for Wes to have bought Reece a car as some form of present, or just because he could; especially if Reece was driving Wes to work (at United)
lancy lad
100% spot on HIS team and will live or die based on decisions in next three months. Under tremendous pressure now with Corney..... not from a sacking point of view but a walk away situation and if rumours true re Fazakerley can see him in charge before December or sooner. I cant help think that if team done well he would be off to a bigger club at end of season. Now lets be careful about how this thread seems to be heading! Corney said he has made mistakes by getting rid of managers in the past, and that he wants Dickov to carry on (or along those lines). As for Fazackerley (even IF he is on board, as everyone is assuming), he may be a respected coach but they dont always make good managers............ Colin Harvey anyone?
