Diego_Sideburns
The pub next to the castle rock brewery is excellent and is a must for real ale enthusiasts like myself. The name escapes me mind. The Vat and Fiddle.

Diego_Sideburns
The Stratford Haven, located off Bridgford Road, which runs along the side of Trent Bridge cricket ground, is a great place for real ale. On Saturday, as part of the Food and Drink Fortnight, it will be serving a myriad of Oktoberfest specials, including Jaeger Schnitzel, Bratwurst stewed with sauerkraut served in a baguette, and potato and beer soup – the next best thing to a trip to see Eintracht Frankfurt! http://www.castlerockbrewery.co.uk/pubs/stratford-haven/
LaticsChris
I only just realised this is another £24 admission fee. It's going to be an expensive day, at least these cracking pubs suggested by Diego should make the subsequent poverty worthwhile.

The expense is lessened by being able to get there and back from here free on a bus pass (free at point of delivery but paid for out of my taxes). Couldn't those with a bus pass do the same from the "Oldham" area. Bus/Met into Manchester, bus from Manchester to Derby, yes there is one, bus from Derby to Nottingham, surely there is one of them too. The national concessionary travel pass can be used on local bus services anywhere in England, but the bus service from Manchester to Derby is not classed as 'local'. In this area, the express between Burton and Derby and the Red Arrow (with tables and aircraft-type features) between Derby and Nottingham are 'local' services.
