rudemedic
Same with community-based services. The figures we're being told to save are service-crippling. So they've said. Hospitals are all being told to make multi-million pound 'efficiency savings' though. Yet they think they can magic 8000 extra GPs out of thin air. rudemedic
Ah, so that's where the extra £8bn is going...!It might cost the country £1million to train a GP, I know the guesstimate for how much it costs to get someone through 4 years of Med School is about £250k, add the extra year, which will be the most expensive as some students get NHS bursaries for the final year and the more complicated nature of the training. Then 2 years of Foundation, the first of which is a lot like a 6/7th year of Med School but the Doctors get paid. Then 3 years GP training. £1 million might be about right but as it costs the NHS on average £20/ patient interaction in GP and it costs 10-100x that for a Hospital Consultant interaction, it might be worth it, but not for this government.
