GlossopLatic
And Burnley they must be a similar sized club to us.They banked a £30 million profit from their season in the PL. Which they soundly invested in their training ground and small improvements to their stadium. They then had a £40 million parachute payment this seasom which they invested in team strengthening and then got promoted. Not so much a triumph for a small budget but more an example of sound financial management if a club hits the jackpot of the PL. Unlike Blackpool. OAFCinWolves
Ha. They spent £9m on a striker and get 4x our crowds... What would our crowds be in their position they are a similar size club to us. It's not a to distant memory from when they survived relegation out of the football league they weren't spending 9 million then. They just been managed right

Burnley FC however is not within a few miles of a club with one of the best sides in Europe, and also man united. Plus they have a pretty decent history - 2 titles, an FA cup, and the quarters of the european cup. They're a much bigger club than us. That might help with the populations blood line, but it could have a long-term impact on their team's crowds.

We're not tinpot yet but Burnley are bigger than Oldham. Even in the Championship I can't see crowds getting to 10,000, which is what Burnley have exceeded for 30-odd years. There's just too much local competition. That being said, Rochdale and Bury are a level below Latics in size. ghostofcecere
When we were in the top flight, after the initial bounce from the pinch me era and the championship season our crowds started to fall. Our average was less than 15,000 despite the away end being filled quite a few times a season by big local away followings. Historically, Burnley have been a much better supported club apart from those seasons in the 80's where the nearly went bump

Burnley on the other hand drew a crowd of 18,000 the day they needed to win to stay in the Football League. Geography is everything.
OAFCinWolves
The old get out of jail. There's plenty of people in the surrounding areas and oldham itself that don't go and watch a match on a Saturday. ...Oldham fans included. bowl
Why what do rochdale do to make it a good day out Rochdale had one of their most important home games in history the other week when they played Gillingham, a win would of leapfrogged them into the playoffs. The attendance was 2300. Rochdale prove your theory wrong.

bowl
The theory that it's a :censored: match day experiance at Rochdale? No the fact they can't pull a decent crowd no matter how well they are doing. I can't comment on their match day experience but they've got a decent ground so it can't be that bad.

GlossopLatic
Burnley have more of a history than we do and as a result have a bigger core support in their town than we do. I do believe though that we have a fairly large dormant support in the town/borough that given success we could tap into. Getting into the championship could see us get gates of around 10000 to begin with and if we challenged to get into the premiership at the top end of the championship could see us get gates of around 12/13/14000 depending on what kind of state of ground and capacity we would have at that time. But we are a million miles away from that currently so it's all hypothetical.
