Interesting definiton of luxury players; I always had hem down as mercurial wingers who look like world beaters every now and again.

It is usually. I suppose people look at it from a defensive point of view if you are in a relegation scrap and spend d most of your time defending then a mercurial winger isn't seen as needed, yet such a player could produce a match winning piece of genius that wins games and gets you out of trouble. How many relegation scraps did Matt Le Tissier get Southampton out of?

For me a luxury player would be one we don't need as that's the definition of luxury right? Another right back in this team would be a luxury player yet a mercurial type such as Jose Baxter shouldn't be, as we have knowone in this team capable of a piece of magic.

Thinking about it though, Burgess wasn't exactly blessed with speed and our defence (with Clarke present) hasn't done too bad. Wilson's not the quickest either and, again, has looked very good when played correctly at the back this season. Perhaps pace at the back isn't quite as crucial at our level?

Yes but you have to take into account how deep we are playing. Clarke doesn't get caught out for pace partly due to his know how and secondly because it's very rare he has to spend the game on the half way line potentially exposed to the counter attack.

If we are going to play the same way Gerrard won't be exposed too much in that respect. However if that's going to happen perhaps we need some quick forwards and look to hit teams on the counter attack and we might just get ourselves out of this.

The problem with lack of pace at the back is that as a team we are 15 yards too deep to compensate for it resulting in Isolation of forwards and difficulty of getting men far enough forward and consequential difficulty in scoring. In every team there has to be a trade off between trying to create opportunities and exposure to risk at the other end.

Burgess subbed at half-time today following Bury conceding three in the first-half.

Wondering if he's any relation to Tim Burgess because......wait for it........they're both Charlatans!

That was a different Burgess. They are collecting them. Cameron was a sub. Don't think he came on. Brown started

Holloway and Gerrard? 131 minutes of football between them since April.......be careful what you wish for? Ronaldo and Messi it aint

Is that any different to last season? Short memories but just what we needed 12 months ago when in a worse position.

Yes you do have a short memory :). Gerrard played the first half of last season for Shrewsbury and Holloway had appeared reasonably regularly too

They had both played a handful of games. Not exactly regular.

They are just what we need in our situation

Gerrard and Clarke are both scousers who played together at Huddersfield. This idea they can't play together is nonsense.

Tarky was a central midfielder as a youth, as much as I rate Edmundson and want him to start against Mansfield he will never be in the mound of Tarky

Clarke started off at Everton, but he's certainly no scouser. He's a Birkdale lad, whereas Gerrard is as scouse as they come from Huyton.
