Good spot that, but that was actually yesterday's show, which you can listen to HERE (right click, save as)

Simon comes on at 55 mins.

EDIT: Christ, they straight out ask about the finances of the club... let us not forget how much these guys are doing for us!

EDIT EDIT: This is HUGELY fascinating! I almost feel like I shouldn't be listening to this!

Actually it was a suprisingly good show to listen too. They'd obviously done their research on Oldham unlike the Beeb. Compare that to Talksport who just concentrate their shows on the Top 4 or London clubs!

Basically Blitz talks about:

1. The cost of buying the club and BP and why he thought it was important to have the club owning the ground.

2. How the council prevented them from getting the development done quickly. Said that with the property crisis development is suspended but expects to be on again in a couple of years when it picks up again. Also said that Banks won't lend such money to build so it's pointless trying.

3.Mentioned how hard it is to protect players from leaving and mentioned Porter and how daft the loophole was for him to go on a free.

4. Income at BP = £2.5million, Players Basic Salary = £2million - Says it all really.

5. Talks about Hillstone going bust and JD have paid 50k for a years shirt sponsorship.

6. The Owners are losing £500k a year but dont take into account extra money coming in ie Trotman + Everton money.

7. Talks about how the Championship receive £2.5million in TV money + League 1 gets £440k so getting into Championship would help.

8. States that 3% of gate receipts automatically go to the Football League.

9. Says Youth development is vital for the future of the club and seemed quite proud of having 5 players from the youth in the first team.

10. The players earn from £1000 - £2500 a week depending on how good they are obviously.

11. Apparently we've received 100k from appearences for Richards and expecting another 100k this season all depending of course on starts. Also mentions the 20% sell on clause we have.

12. He stressed how hard it is to get kids into BP with the lure of City and United next door and can only see attendances dropping unless something changes in football.

Great to hear about all the clubs finances being openly discussed in the way it was. This is why TTA are great people to have in charge because they can discuss finances and not be ashamed to admit that they still make a loss even after 5 years. Sounds like the plans for the future are still steady yet a promotion and Richards being sold for a tasty value would help nicely.

Thats easy for you to say!

that was a fantastic show, and a fantastic insight into the club and its finances and how to prepare for the future and so on....

like the guy said what would you do if taylor scored 24 goals this season, listen to offers.....if he did score that many we would be up,so wouldnt need to sell..

one question i was hoping would be asked was about the five year plan...which is basically up at the end of this season.....so what is the next stage after this season.

presumably we go up this year get more money hopefully bigger attendances and a feel good factor returns, the development goes ahead, would we be looking at another five year plan of sustainablility, then looking to push forward again once the ground was complete and the income was increased by bp being open 24/7

interesting too that he said people like abramovich and this new owners at city dont really take into account the fans coming in,as they have that much money it doesnt really matter...

£325 for a season ticket in league one or £400 to watch the superstars of the premier league, doesnt compare does it.

It should be easier now to recruit good kids as there's little chance of them breaking through at the likes of Manchester City.

Far better to join Latics with a good and proven record of youth development.

Latics scouts should press home this point strongly when recruiting.

what a great listen...cheers bob :chubb: in the days of "sack the board", we are very very fortunate to have these guys running our football club...we have had some very uncertain times financially in the past and if justice was to be done, then these guys should reap any financial benefits that come there way in the future......if the town wasn't so crap, i'd say give them the freedom of the borough :D cheers tta

I think he was talking about fans, not trainees.

Cheers Bob. This is probably one of the best interviews by anyone in football in years. I downloaded the podcast on Itunes. One thing to note is that the highest basic wage at the club is £2,500. The guys on that show put the brit media to shame, they certainly know their stuff.

What an amazing listen! Such openness and honesty - just fascinating. Everyone should listen to this, no-one on this thread is exaggerating how good this interview is. You can download the podcast off itunes (thanks jimsleftfoot) and you should.

Brilliant stuff. Very reassuring that we have totally responsible people at the helm. They're never going to drop us like a stone. How many other clubs fans could say that with total confidence?
