  1. Having watched live football in the 1980's, football has come along way. Stadiums back then were death traps, supporters herded into pens with no way out. We were treated like animals, and I think that is one factor why hooliganism was rife. 96 football fans went to watch a game of football and never came home. This is an english football tragedy and like the Bradford fire should never be forgotten. I feel a minute silence is far more deserved for this, than it is for things like the death of an ex pro, as I can relate far more with the supporters.
  2. Excellent result, we've played 10 away games, and only 7 at home. So if we can make BP a fortress then we have a great chance of sniffing around the play offs
  3. Apart from Wolves we're yet to lose by more than 1 goal. We've been competitive in every match apart from Wolves, with a squad that's almost had a complete overhaul. The football has generally been of a better standard then previous seasons. Chopping and changing the manager isn't the right way to go about things, look at Leyton Orient. I'm still convinced we won't go down this season, and LJ's still learning his trade. Avoid relegation this season keep the majority of the squad together and I'm sure next season we'll see a vast improvement.
  4. Did I miss something, from what I can gather the guy only owned up after other trust members got suspicious and investigated. Now everyone's gone all soft and claiming what a wonderful fella he is. Chances are if they didnt catch him he'd still be taking the money now.
  5. Didn't trust Oldham inspect the books, found something a bit dodgy then reported it to the police. It's all well and good apologising and admitting guilt, but chances are he had no option as there was enough evidence against him. I've seen people on here get put to task for bare minimum, this guy steels public money but hey what a guy.
  6. I wouldn't say crisis but I'm getting a bit worried. Initially after the first few games I thought we were just unlucky, but when the same thing keeps happening, luck doesn't come into it.
  7. This is what annoys me about supporting Oldham, our fans seem to be a right miserable bunch. Give me entertainment, give me flair, i want to see skills, taking players on etc. Yet you still here constant groans of "just get rid of it" or "stop pissing around with it just get it in the box" I enjoyed watching players like JJ, Morais for their flair and I'm going to enjoy watching Sid.
  8. I always liked Hoddle when he was England's manager, always tried to get us playing football, before that Venables was good. It seems now though the current English coaches are nothing short of shocking, apart from LJ though ;). There is a reason why none of the top clubs in the world have English managers. They just stick to type, and spout the same stuff they were coached when they were players, without bringing any fresh ideas, or trying to change the way we play. For some strange reason they seem to think the English style of play of getting it forward as quick as possible will reap rewards.
  9. Well Moyes was at the game on Monday, and even though I doubt he was there to check on Tarky. He must of been impressed with what he saw and it wouldn't surprise me if he sends Utd scouts to watch him in the future. Great prospect and only 20 years old.
  10. Well as long as the FA carry on appointing dinosaur managers then watching England will be dire. Get rid of the old guard with their direct hit and hope approach. They're far to stuck in their ways. I think there is hope though I think the generation of English managers coming through are like a breath of fresh air. Such as our very own LJ. Watching that tonight I kept thinking if LJ was in charge of England I'm pretty sure it'd be far more entertaining. Not that I'd want to lose him to England though. ;)
  11. Unfortunately after last night if teams didn't know about us, the secret is well and truly out of the bag now. I think after watching last night teams will try and come up with a game plan for us.
  12. Yeah was just thinking the same. As good as we were/are, that's now Peterborough, Tranmere and Preston, 3 games so early in the season we should have either won or drawn, but we get beaten. Yet it seems so many other teams seem to be able to play bad yet still win. I'm still optimistic, but I think we need 2 or 3 wins on the bounce, just to get the players in the habit of winning.
  13. I agree with you. Was it a pen? No but like you said he was going away from goal with very little danger, there was no need to attempt to win the ball in that situation, and in doing so you're always going to give the opportunity for the ref to award a pen.
  14. My main worry is with these difficult games coming up, there could be a distinct possibility that at the end of them we find ourselves languishing near the bottom of the table. I just hope this doesn't destroy the feel good factor if that happens.
  15. Time to move on, we lost. We know, and I'd imagine even the most biased Tranmere supporters would admit they were 2nd best throughout the majority of the match. We struggled to break them down and in those cases you're always liable to get done a sucker punch. They got a bit of good fortune with the decision, although Oxley didn't need to go for the ball in those situations. We move on, and hopefully at some point in the season the football gods will smile on us. As for Tranmere I'd be seriously worried if I was a supporter, by all accounts they've been pretty :censored: in every match thus far, apart from brief glimpses, although I'm only going off what I've read on their forum.
  16. I've yet to see Kusunga play, apart from some clips on you tube, but I'd like to think LJ signed him and others to improve the team rather than just warm the bench. I think Mills has done well, but if Kusunga is the real deal I'd like to see him partner Tarky with Grounds switching back to left back. That all depends on Kusungas match fitness though.
  17. I that they did, was a proper smash and grab, but looking how they played I'd be amazed if they finish above us this season.
  18. Well if it's finished, then can't really complain. Think we've made some quality signings this transfer window and our squad seems the strongest its been for years. Could be worse think of poor Tranmere they've barely done anything their squad looks to lack quality and depth and their most recent transfer was a centre back on loan from Crewe.
  19. Makes far to many rash decisions for me, an example was the penalty for Tranmere, although the spot kick was debatable, Lowe was going away from goal as their was very little danger, he shouldn't be getting involved in situations like that, he did similar against Peterborough. I reckon through the course of a season he'll cost us more points then he gains us. I like our youthful team, but an experienced gk could make a massive difference.
  20. To be fair Tranmere were bloody awful, and didn't deserve a point let alone 3, whether that was due to them playing mid week, I'm not sure, but I'd hazard a guess at them just being crap.
  21. We could do with a decent gk, the rest of the squad I'm happy with.
  22. Considering our next game in the league will be Monday. I'd play full strength, it's a great opportunity to build cohesion and understanding with so many new faces.
  23. Putting a bit of a negative spin on things. 3 home games 2 defeats in which we've been unable to score against fairly average teams. We struggle to break teams down who put men behind the ball. Think we need to drop Wes for home matches and play two creative midfielders.
  24. Hope he gets a good reception when he returns with Sheffield United, top player, and never screwed us over like that other ex player at Sheff Utd.
