  1. Homosexuality tends to be frowned upon in the Eastern Bloc
  2. Unfortunately, as we all know it's one rule for one and one rule for cheating, diving, arrogant Portugese winkers
  3. I've heard of clutching at straws but you can't class Franny as famous And Stapleton is definitely a City fan... and a cock!
  4. Hope you don't mind my blatent theft but with my user name, I can't really not have that as my avatar! Cheers Rummy
  5. I've got 5 current league grounds that I haven't done. None left in our division and only really the new grounds in the Prem and Championship. Still about half of League 2 though. All have been done watching Latics.
  6. Fair point, but are any of the towns mentioned in the same position as Oldham in not having a cinema or bowling alley or similar for people without transport to have an enjoyable evening out? I do not know the answer to this question so it may well be that they are.
  7. What? No mention of Tommyfield market? But we all know that this is the only subject that Oldhamers and the nation at large have concerns about in the town
  8. It was the three stewards stood in the corner between the Chaddy and main stand that I noticed, stood there having a chat completely oblivious to what was going on. Each to their own but personally I thought it was a bit of a poor show.
  9. Without doubt the quote of the day on this came from David Gold on TalkSport. "It wouldn't cost a Portsmouth fan any more to travel to a game in Singapore than it would to go to the away game at Sunderland" That is how in touch with the real world some Premier League chairmen are. What's more, neither Wright or Durham picked him up on it.
  10. The question about whether we had a minute's silence after September 11th - I'm pretty certain that we did. We played in the cup at B Rovers the day after and I'm sure that there was a minute's silence. It was only about mid day on the 12th that it was confirmed that games would be going ahead at all. I think the concept of a minute's silence is a highly controversial one. Personally I think we have too many and not for the right reasons. The George Best one was the worst of the lot. I was unfortunate to lose a friend who donated all his organs. This was one week prior to George Best being given his new liver. Clearly I have no idea whether it was the same one but it doesn't really matter. How he went on to abuse that liver is something I would never be able to forgive. We had a minute's silence at the next game (possibly Yeovil or Bristol away) and when it was announced that there would be a silence I returned my ticket to Boundary Park and obtained a refund. I would never spoil a minute's silence but I was not prepared to play any part in that one, even waiting outside to go in as they kicked off. Munich is something that, to be honest, means nothing to me. It was a long time before I was born and although I recognise it as a tragedy where a number of people died, it was no more of a tragedy that any other incident where a similar number of people died. If it had been Latics players, I may feel differently, I don't know. Again, I would not contemplate speaking during a Munich silence but I would not expect to be asked to participate unless I was attending a game at OT. I feel somewhat differently about Bradford and Hillsborough due to the fact that I remember both incidents - Hillsborough I remember well, Bradford, just about. A minute's applause seems a reasonable request for us on Saturday and I would have to confess that this seems a better plan than a minute's silence. Again, though, I think it is interesting who is given the tribute and who isn't. I am happy to salute all ex-Latics players but to me it was very sad that no silence (or applause) was held for the likes of Chubb.
  11. It was widely reported around the time of the NFL game at Wembley that this was something that was being considered but I would say that it is quite big news that all 20 teams have now agreed in principle. I can't see how they think it is going to work. Do they really believe that they will fill Giants' Stadium for Birmingham v Fulham? Why add a 39th game? This goes against all the priciples ruling English football, ie. that you play everyone twice. It is particularly interesting that Derby have agreed. This could be almost as bad as when we voted in favour of the Premier League... Turkeys voting for Christmas
  12. These will be the same managers who say that they play too many games then! Premier Greed
  13. Time for us all to pile in on nil-nil for Saturday then. We'll make a killing!
  14. I still get a bit of a buzz from the fact that my birth certificate states my place of birth as "Boundary Park". I do wonder just how anyone in the same position could possibly support another team
  15. Even if it is Scholes, I'm not sure that the United avator is the way to go! But welcome to the wacky world of supporting the Blues
  16. As mentioned by OS, Australia is currently on standby should SA fail to prove that they are capable of hosting the tournament. A month in Oz sounds good to me
  17. Darlo, Hereford, Morcambe, Chester 4 new grounds would be very nice. Have I given up on promotion? - No Do I think we'll get promotion? - No So this is a fall back plan Looking on the bright side, I don't think we'll go down
  18. Went in the Brewers Fayre next to the ground last year. We were told before hand that no away fans would be admitted but when we got there, just wandered straight in (wearing colours). It was about 50/50 Latics and Swansea fans in there and very friendly. I was surprised but they were some of the nicest fans I met last season. unfortunately I'm not going to make it on Saturday
  19. Only 19 responses to this but some interesting answers. Results were as follows: Everton Away 07/08 18 Leeds Away 07/08 15 Tranmere Away 07/08 10 Forest Home 06/07 9 Huddersfield Away 06/07 9 Scunthorpe Away 06/07 7 Millwall Away 07/08 6 Bournemouth Away 07/08 6 Swansea Home 07/08 5 Tranmere Home 06/07 5 Wolves Away 06/07 5 Swansea Away 06/07 4 Huddersfield Away 07/08 3 Gillingham Away 06/07 3 Forest Away 06/07 3 Doncaster Away 07/08 2 Blackpool Away 06/07 2 Leyton O Away 06/07 2 Mansfield Home 07/08 1 Burnley Away 07/08 1 Forest Away 07/08 1 Doncaster Home 06/07 1 Crewe Away 06/07 1 Bradford Away 06/07 1 Chesterfield Away 06/07 1 Carlisle Away 06/07 1 I think the most interesting stat is that 83% of the votes went to away games In the period covered, we have won 15 home games and 16 away games and so normally a fairly even split would have been expected between the two on an enjoyment level. This goes to show 1) How much atmosphere plays a part in our enjoyment of a game 2) How little feel good factor we are able to create at home.
  20. It was a stupid headline. The story with the headline as it is, led to people clicking on with fervent expectation only to feel totally let down. Had the headline been "Latics line up half time entertainment for cup tie", people would have clicked on the link and their first thoughts would have been "Good effort, I'll be having a bit of that. Well done Latics"
  21. A few that spring to mind, mostly already mentioned Michael (I've played in the Champions League) Clegg Paul Beevers Glen Keeley - That City game ruined my summer Terrell Forbes - I'm sure some people rated him but I wasn't one of them Neil Wood - Was being tipped as the flair midfielder we'd been looking for when we signed him And the one who still really, really grates with me... John McGinlay I know that there will be an argument that he scored at Brentford, thus giving us the Chelsea game a few years back but the question was 'signings'. When he was on loan he looked like he could be @rsed, despite being a fat B*lton ****. Then we gave him a contract. Without playing a single game, he decided to retire! WTF. I'd love to know how much that ended up costing us.
  22. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no gut feeling about this. I can honestly see anything happening. It could easily be three nil either way if one team turns up and the other doesn't. If both teams play as well, or as badly as they can, I'll go for two a piece. Taylor and Davies putting us two up with Sir Luke hitting back.
  23. I would imagine that the following would be certainties: Shez Little Shez Dux Tommy Wright Tony P Eyresy Stitch Tricky Ricky
  24. Elsewhere on the site it states that members will be able to book online but this facility is not currently up and running. It will be allocated seating so we should aim for a specific block to try and create a 'Latics section'. I don't think the MEN will quite know what's hit it... "Oh when the blues..."
