  1. Because tactically I get the impression that the manager has told the fullbacks to sit in unless we are chasing a goal and there are only 5-10 mins to go. Its amazing how many times this year we have had 4 defenders and a central midfielder marking two forwards. Though to be fair as we tend to be sat so deep an extra oppo midfielder will sometimes drop into the hole to make it look like there are 3 opposing players being marked.
  2. Unfortunately there are a lot of idiots in the world, I think Clarkspon sums it up today when he says you have 5% of people who are goodie-goodies and who become vicars and 5% who build exploding hiking shoes and starve their children. I just wish that none of the pondlife "oddball" 5% associated themselves with our club. BTW Lags I think you have the best response for dealing with these muppets, maybe they won't come back then!
  3. Swindon Manager - Danny Wilson Latics Manager - Dave Penney I think that explains a lot of the Swindon factor!!
  4. An ok performance resulting in 0 points does not mask the tactical naivety and general ineptitude displayed throughout the season so far. We have a manager who is more concerned with defending than scoring resulting in fullbacks held to the halfway line and a midfield unable to link successfully with the forwards. That is why we hold the lowly position we do and have the joint worst home goal scoring record and one of the worst combined scoring records in the league. There is no defence to that. However booing the players during a game is counter-productive. Dave Penney however isn't playing and has already said he doesnt care about the fans opinion so he has made himself a target. Season Ticket sales next year will either lead to a much reduced playing budget or a change of manager if he doesnt turn it around or both. The next 4 or 5 games are key as they are against mediocre opposition. I for one am not optimistic as we do not/have not scored enough goals to secure enough points all year.
  5. This is the latest of numerous "spot on" posts re the tactics employed. I'd like to believe that the players are good enough to survive in this league, Unfortunately I think they are constrained by the managers tactics. The results and goals for column bears this out and for this reason i have to say I think Dave Penney has to go sooner rather than later if we are to stay in this division
  6. Good post, the problem is not goals conceded but goals scored. We have a manager who is more concerned about conceding than scoring. When we do concede there is no belief that we will come back.
  7. You get a meal, player interviews pre and post match, a friendly atmosphere All in all a good day
  8. Maybe you are right about Pav, when Talbot came in I think my expectations were generally lower, he was a good guy but not a great manager, to be fair I was also still playing Sat football then, though I had a season ticket so wasn't getting to every game
  9. Garcon you have very eloquently and concisely summarised my feelings - though I probably would have given Shez until the end of last season and maybe upto Nov this year to regain the dressing room and move a couple of players on. Great Post though I think summarising what a lot of people|(not necessarily on this board) are thinking
  10. Firstly as you don't know me then you probably have to take my word for it or not as you choose. I have been watching Latics since about 1974 so up until after the glory years only had a choice of 2 to knock. I was disappointed when Stitch went and pleased when Wadsworth went but have never really blamed the manager for our predicament, as I say you can take my word for it or not, the fact is in all my years of watching I have never seen as consistently negative tactics as I am seeing at present. Our goals for column supports my feelings Colbeck was in the box on Weds and said he got a knock in training and was missing as his hamstring(I think)was tight but expected to be back for Sat(which he wasn't)therefore this was unrelated to Wycombe............so coincidence absolutley Pav didn't appear to me to be fatigued at the time of his withdrawal, more bemused to be fair again IMO. Pick holes all you want BB80 but I fear for Latics league 1 future under Penney's management
  11. For me its his tactics that are badly wrong, thats why I think he has to go. I have never previously asked for another manager to be replaced but I fear for Latics under DP. He seems more scared of conceding that interested in scoring. The full backs are rarely seen in the opposition half, the centre midfield sit in front of the back 4, the ball is played centrally to Abbott who then has to hold it until somebody tries to link with him, usually from wide midfield. If this was quick football it would be ok but we are so reticent(apologies for the spelling)to go forward that this takes an age allowing the opposition to get numbers and their shape back before we pose a serious threat. At Wycombe DP replaced our most threatening attacking player(Colbeck) at 2-1 and for the rest of the game we sat back and allowed Wycombe to press, save a couple of half chances in a game we had dominated to that point(after the first 10 mins). Against Tranmere we were woeful throughout the game, as were they to be fair. Saturday we looked ok first half but retreated back on to the edge of the box in the 2nd half and allowed Millwall to attack us. Then with 30 mins to go and behind 1-0 we replace our most threatening player with a young kid who is clearly not ready to lead the line yet(IMO). When we fall behind we have no plan B and did on Sat did not threaten. Have a look at our goals for record and you will see how woeful it is. In the last two games at home BTW the opposition keeper has not made 1 meaningful save. This has been the story of our season and as DP does not look like changeing his tactics I think he has to go or we will be in League 2 next year
  12. I'm with you both, support the club you love or don't moan at its demise. There are good and bad times, you don't have to like it(I'm not at the mo and think DP's tactics are strangling performances personally). However contributing to the continuing existence of the club, now that's not a choice IMO
  13. Re Flahavan, I think there was a long stoppage before half time where he recieved treatment, at that stage and over half time I was unsure that he was going to return so am presuming it was then rather than later in the game
  14. To be honest I think he was a Sheff Utd fan
  15. I understand that but I would rather have Flahavan as the No 1 and Fleming as No 2(rather than Brill). I accept that this is unlikely to happen though Fleming may not have too much choice until the summer. To be fair I think if Flahavan stays and stays fit then we have other issues rather than whether the stiffs keeper is Fleming or Brill.
  16. I would hope we would keep Flahavan with Fleming to challenge
  17. +1 the players might even enjoy it if they think the fans are behind them
  18. I completely agree, I never thought I'd say this but he was sorely missed once subbed
  19. Am chilled just wanted closure on what I mean't to articulate in case I hadn't done it too well previously, and was a little wound up by the people talking rubbish comment................................only a little tho
  20. Ok if it is me you are referring to, it is symantics yes a recession was going to come, it is the natural order, however my point was that the credit crunch made it difficult to predict the scale as we previously agreed and acted as a Catalist in bringing it forward. A recession can be a loss of a small part of a percentage point over two consecutive quarters. However I have just read that the IMF regard a global recession as a period when growth is less than 3%. The definition is fluid, and yes the recession was predictable however it occurred at different times depending on whose definition you read. The size and scale was not forecasted accurately even when we were in the middle of the credit crunch which as I stated earlier took many people by surprise with its timing. I apologised for the muppet comment and do not expect to be hung and drawn when previously have made my poistion around the scale and not the actual eventy clear.
  21. I apologise for that it was me being churlish, my only mitigating factor and its not really is that I had a tooth removed on Tuesday that has an infection underneath which has had me in agony for a few days. No excuse I know so please accept my apology for the muppet comment
  22. My point is the scale of the recession has been the biggest factor, growth in any walk of life has to plateau or stop at sometime
  23. The recession was coming, the size of it due to the credit crunch was unforseen. Also recession is an emotive word that can mean a small drop in gdp for and this is a question, two successive quarters?
