  1. But neither have done, that well at a number of clubs they have played at either, so whilst there maybe some validity in what they say, they are not necessarily right
  2. This +1, we haven't set the world alight but it's too early. I think we all know we need a CB and striker(Mchangma as the cover in mf, though he isn't up weslowski's level I can't see someone good signing to sit on our bench) and we'll probably be ok
  3. Pompey: I feel for the fans here because they are loosing the club they love(and as they have a mostly local fanbase the team they would have been affiliated to). They got caught on a flasely induced high but we all know that artificially induced highs create a much bigger low and that is what they are experiencing at the moment. Chris Moore tried to buy us into the championship, fortunately(because if he had succeeded I really worry about the amount he would have spent getting us into the prem)with money he didn't have. A lot of us were bought into Moore whilst it was happening and only after the event did we realise how close we were to going out of business. We were lucky, Pompey's fans may not be as fortunate as us. MK Dons: The problem here is that they took someone else's bond and started a model that looked something like the US. MK wanted its own team but as previous posts said took the quick and dirty option to secure league football on a hockey pitch. That has threatened Northampton Town's development, contributed to the failure of Rushden and Diamonds(yes I know they were a phoenix club to, but they at least started at lower pyramid levels) and haven't helped Luton's cause and have perhaps stifled the growth of a true MK team that someone probably would have invested in at sometime and with the catchment available. Saying that it is a friendly well run club but is born out of a nasty experiment the like of which I hope we don't see again. So I hope eventually they fail and maybe a true phoenix club that starts at a lower level is born and then MK can have a team that is born from MK and not Merton. Merton council and the NIMBYS in that area are just as culpable around the failure of Wimbledon to survive in its inital format.
  4. I sort of agree with this, however the caveat is that Dave Jones has the strength in depth to change things, we don't apart from long ball to Matt Smith, or Byrne to CH and brown at lb. Furman and Weso were outnumbered in midfield by the substitution before the half hour, again maybe m'changma could have bolstered that or simo could have dropped deeper, but with the system we played it could easily have been 3-0 or 3-1 at least but for Kirkland - 2nd stop was brilliant
  5. The main reason was supposedly to help the England team, unfortunately they then allowed premier league execs onto the board of the FA and it became as close to a closed shop as it could be.
  6. I have joined with the missus, money should be in the account and via paypal afterall ;) Well done Dean with this initiative
  7. Hi All, I struggle with paypal is there another way to donate my committed £20 Cheers Rob
  8. Count me in as well if we can co-ordinate this, more than happy to chuck in a few quid for a couple of children' STs
  9. This is definitley the one, changed history as Taggart wouldn't have survived it and we would have been in the FA CUP final
  10. What was the FC United stance to Failsworth? I'm not sure but if it was agnostic then we are probably right to follow that path. Then again there aren't many FC United fans where I am. Now if Farnboro decide to upsticks I have a problem ;)
  11. Great Great post, still get goosebumps from the mention of some of the games there....Southampton away, Arsenal, Southampton at home and countless others. I know this is a post about Stitch but need to comment on Ricky Holden's overhead kick at Newcastle, still one of the best goals ever seen in a latics shirt? Wayne who?
  12. Actually that made me chuckle, but alas no
  13. Nice intelligent repost, from your initial comment it sounds like its ok to throw abuse around, and now by your response you confirm it. As for your advice about getting back under my metaphorical rock, I'll choose to ignore it from you, if its all the same
  14. No actually the support staff who do a lot for the club outside of their normal working hours also matter. Most of them have been at the club at lot longer than most of the players in the last few years. And actually as the mods run the site, if they want to take their ball home they can, don't like it move on and keyboard warrior somewhere else
  15. He is also IMO the best keeper to play for us in the last 35 years - one bad/awful game won't tarnish that
  16. Paddy, put that down to my age - the seasons run into each other(I tht Miki and Eardley played a portion of the game in the centre of our midfield) But I remember - you ar right(remember him going off) Still dreadful though
  17. RIP Miki, awful awful newss, last game v Crewe when we won 4-1 Gutted for his family
  18. I honestly believe that Penney thought he was signing Jack Colback a la Mike Bassett Benson and Hedges. Thought he had a bargain at £60k ;)
  19. Get well soon Barry, here's to a speedy recovery
  20. Neither, city moved into the council house in our back yard and united are just united. Two of my greatest moments as an oldham fan, humiliating city at Maine Rd 4-1 and beating Man U at home 1-0. Happy days
  21. This to me is a bit chicken and egg though especially with reponsibility. The current owner does not have the funds necessary to keep bank rolling the club, though is making strides to attract new investment(he may have more funds that he may or may not invest once failsworth is sold back to the council etc and from the current housing development but at the moment is not cash rich). However with the help of playershare etc seems to still be able to write cheques at expense to himself to keep the club going with a squad that should be able to compete at the current level. He could sell but there doesnt seem to be a massive lsit of investors coming forward to purchase the club, though again maybe the fact there is a plan to redevelop the ground may change this. Therefore if latics are trying to improve the matchday experience with the development then perhaps we need to take that on good faith and invest in going to see them and accepting that everything won't change as quickly as we wish(I know we have had years/decaded in all of waiting). If we don't invest now the club will take longer to put on an even keel and will be less attractive to investors who can take it forward, therefore the reason we need the hardcore and newish "stayaways" to come back with their cash is to give the club a chance of improving everything more quickly and thus attracting more people who are currently taking other options on a saturday. The restaurant analagy(?) is great but unfortunately the owner doesnt currently have the funds to rectify the issues therefore needs some help to make the whole experience better, otherwise at best the time it takes to improve the environment/experience will take longer meaning more current supporters will become stayaways. That is in my humble opinion where those of us that can make sacrifices should, and make the effort even when we all know everything isn't as we would like in the hope and expectation that this will help change things for the better more quickly.
  22. Personally I think Lee has struggled so far at home this season. I haven't been away yet(thought he has played consistently well since playing rb until this season though). However second half yesterday he was superb, so hopefully this is the start of his season. I wouldn't have thought finding another rb was a priority with limited budgets. Thought Diallo(?)had a great game though until he got sent off, oops !
  23. Thought Reid had a great game yesterday, good touch, the control, spin and shot on the turn in the first half was great to see. His running off the ball either taking defenders away from the play or loosing them altogether was good to watch yesterday, best game I've seen from him in a latics shirt!
