  1. Some cracking designs on here. Stick that 'gothic Oldham Boys' on a T-shirt and I think your onto a money spinner there, I'd buy one anyways! Loving the Greyhound and Rifle Range designs as well. Keep 'em coming boyo!
  2. An idea for a banner: 'Wear It With Pride' Ernies face at the end with 1980 - 2008 underneath. I think the players when lacking motivation in a game, would look up to this in the stand and realise how lucky they are to wear the shirt.
  3. From: http://www.clubfanzine.com/ipswich_town/v2...ws.php?id=11632 Elsewhere, former Blue George O’Callaghan is set to make a surprise swift return to English football with Tranmere Rovers, having only rejoined Cork City in January. Oldham Athletic and other League One sides are also believed to have expressed an interest in the midfielder.
  4. Just found on google that Bill Quinn (owner of WM Quinn) is chairman of the Roughyeds. Taken from the Roughyeds website: A month ago Roger Halstead did an in-depth interview with Bill Quinn, who is now the new chairman with a controlling interest in the club (75 per cent of the shares) rather than a majority interest, as would have been the case if he had gone along with his original intention to buy 52 per cent. We reproduce that interview here for those who didn't see it at the time. Please bear in mind that Mr Quinn has now taken over as chairman; that he has a controlling interest; that Chris Hamilton and Sean Whitehead remain on the board each with 12.5 per cent of the shares; and that Chris will continue in his role as chief executive of the club. This is the piece from the programme: Roger Halstead talks to the new man behind the revitalised Roughyeds (taken from the club's match-day magazine for the Swinton game on February 18) BILL Quinn, soon-to-be chairman and majority shareholder of the Roughyeds, knows where he's going --- and how to get there. His track record in business proves that. At the age of 40, and from relatively modest beginnings, he heads one of the biggest group of companies of its kind across the North of England. The William Quinn Group Ltd comprises four separate companies and turnover this year is projected at between £8million and £10million. The group's plant, machinery and equipment is valued at £4million and it is involved with property and land valued in excess of £25million. Based in Ardwick, Manchester, the Quinn Group deals with demolition, remediation, validation, asbestos, knotweed, earthworks and aggregates (only the experts will understand that little lot) as well as the development of commercial, residential and land purchases. Or, as Bill put it in such a matter-of-fact way at the press conference to announce his arrival at the Roughyeds . . . "anything, in fact, which makes us money." At this juncture it needs to be stressed that he is starting out in the rough-and-tumble world of rugby league and professional sport with his eyes wide open. He knows he isn't coming to Oldham Roughyeds to make money: I think we can safely assume that rather the opposite will apply. His financial muscle will be needed to take the club forwards and upwards and on to a bright, new future. This on the back of the extraordinary work done by Chris Hamilton and Sean Whitehead in keeping the club in business for the best part of ten years despite body blows that would have floored lesser men long ago. As Bill told Roughyeds sponsors and backers at a pre-season buffet lunch: "The measure of a man is not how he responds to triumph --- it's how he responds to hardships and setbacks. And it's what Chris and Sean have done to keep this club alive that inspired me to get involved." That involvement means he is lined up to become chairman and majority shareholder of Oldham Rugby League Club (1997) Ltd, with 52 per cent and with the other two shareholders, Chris and Sean, each holding 24 per cent. Chris, chairman since the club was started in 1997, will be full-time chief executive. As I say, Bill is under no illusions about the role he is to play at what, effectively, is now HIS club and his company. "For the first time in my life," he told me, "I will be involved in an operation from which I am not seeking profit. As far as my life at Roughyeds is concerned 'PROFIT' will no longer be in the dictionary. It will be replaced by 'SATISFACTION' --- the satisfaction from knowing that we are taking the club on to better times." Bill Quinn was born in Longsight, Manchester. His father was a proud Irishman who had won an all-Ireland medal in Gaelic football --- and, to this day, that medal takes pride of place in the lounge of Bill's home near Chorley. Divorced from his first wife, he has three boys, Michael (15), Harrison (8) and Ethan (3) and his fiancee, originally from Rochdale, is Suzanne Kettleton --- and if that surname rings a bell among rugby league fans with a knowledge of the sport in the Rochdale area it isn't surprising. Suzanne's dad, John Kettleton, and the well-known former Spotland Rangers and Rochdale Hornets forward Brian Kettleton --- now there's a forward who could look after himself if ever there was one --- are cousins. John also played to Great Britain amateur level, turning out many times for Hornets 'A' and even doing a stint with the 'A' team at Watersheddings. Anyway, back to the beginning. On leaving school in Manchester, Bill worked for a couple of demolition companies until, aged 23, he launched out on his own by setting up a business dealing with reclaimed materials. It was then that, for the first time, he came into contact with Sean Whitehead. Twelve years ago, and still only 28, he started his own demolition company --- and in those 12 years his business interests have grown, and grown, and grown until, today, the William Quinn Group of companies does work throughout the UK and has land and property all over Greater Manchester and out to Warrington and Chorley. Away from business, and in his younger days, Bill used to be an amateur boxer "who got leathered every week" while nowadays he enjoys "trying" to play a few rounds of golf. Goals for the future? Said Bill: "Promotion this season -- that's got to be the first aim. Our ultimate goal will be a return to Super League, but that isn't going to come easily and it will take time. "I will make the funding available to give us a realistic chance of reaching these goals and, long term, we also have to be looking at the stadium issue. "I'm in this for the long haul. And, as I say, for the first time in my life profit isn't on the agenda. Everything we make will be ploughed back into the club so that it can achieve its goals, ambitions and dreams for the future. "Funds will be made available as and when they are required and in what areas they are required -- there will be nothing haphazard about it. Plans will be programmed. "We already have ideas to bring revenue into the club and these will be put into place in the next month or two. "I'm not here to be second best. I want to take this club back into Super League and I want the talented local boys to want to come and sign for Oldham. You can't blame them for looking elsewhere because everyone has the right to aspire to get as far up the ladder as their talents and drive will take them. "What I want to do is to build a club here that Oldham lads will want to play for and will be proud to play for."
  5. WM Quinn from Ardwick are the demolition people. I dont know anything about them or demoliton but at the speed they were going at today it could be a while before its down.
  6. MKdonalds at home. Will they bring more than 88 fans this year??
  7. Entrance Music: Fanfare for the common man. Goal Celebration: Guns of Navarone - The Specials (even though i would vote none after a goal)
  8. According to SC the Lookers is coming down this monday (hopefully) so if you want pictures etc I'd get down there asap.
  9. I'm the same as you, I did MKdonalds Hockey Stadium to get it in and I'm considering whether or not to go to there new bowl?! I may even go and watch the real Wimbledon instead of giving any money to Winkleman. I've done 60 of the current 92 teams in the 08/09 season and only counting there current stadiums.
  10. We need a song for our player of the season. And Number 1 is Mark Allott And Number 2 is Mark Allott etc We all dream of a team of Mark Allot's..
  11. I would of loved to see Leeds get beat and the embarressment of staying in this league, however if they do go up then it's good for our promotion hopes next season. I think that will crush Carlisle and they'll end up finishing outside the play-offs next season.
  12. Would love Dale to come up although I wouldn't be suprised if they blew their chance again, Imagine how many we'd take to Spotland next season!
  13. £50 is a very good price for under 16's, but they really need to advertise this otherwise only current fans will benefit from this. Last game of the season we had 1000 kids there in the RRE, did the club not hand out fliers saying that you can see a Latics season for only £2.17 a week? If you gave loads of kids fliers like that in local schools, get them exicted about watching live football with there mates, then you build from there. It seems from the outside theres a can't be arsed trying attitude from within the club on stuff like this. It won't do any harm trying will it?
  14. The thing is nowadays people don't have the time to do these things on a regular basis. The club should have someone who is paid to think of these idea's, socialise with fans and launch them into action. He/She should be in the centre of Oldham asking people why they have given up going to Latics or why they have never even bothered, you'd be suprised what answers you might get. I know there's people reading this at the club, so if the comments on here, by Simon Corney and the drop in attendance isnt a wake up call for you to do something positive at the club then theres no hope at all. Fair enough you could say you've done X + Y campaign and they didn't work but look at the idea's on here, there manly free/simple things to try. Even if some of them fall flat on there arse at least you can say you give it a shot and move onto the next idea. The club needs a shake up (and the music selections!) big time and nows the time to start it.
  15. Right, Corney's had his rant about fan's not turning up and maybe it was a poorly timed speech but hey he's right! So instead of our mystery marketing guy doing sod all to attract people, lets stick idea's here and lets see where we get. At least SC can't argue at the loyal fan's doing nowt. Ways to get fan's back: 1: Cheaper Tickets I don't know the math's of how to run a football club but if we could lower them then maybe fans would return. 2: Better football Everyone know's that the people of Oldham love to watch good football, get it right on the pitch then build around that. 3: Star Player Sure Scholes would be ideal but there's plenty of potential 'star players' which could attract fans imaginations. 4: Better atmosphere Bland, stale and dull. Thats what It's been like at BP for years. 5: Standing/Singing section Probably the main reason why i love away days. Get that atmosphere in the RRE next season and it would be great. 6: Better Stewards Is it me or were stewards invisible at BP till a few year ago, yet it's highly unlikely for anything to kick off at BP! 7: Better Match entertainment OK not a big thing for me but theres absolutly no entertainment pre match or at half time apart from some 8year old cheerleaders! 8: Beer at game/ people walking with beer on back Still no beer in the Chaddy! At Citeh they have people walking round with beer dispensers so you avoid the queue. 9: Better match advertising Anyone ever seen a poster/banner of who were playing on the coming Saturday? No? Me neither. 10: TV's at back with highlights Also at Citeh they have nice plasma tv's which show the highlights of the 1st half, small things like this add to the attraction of the game. 11: Betting shop at back of RRE This surely is a must for next season, £100 says they don't! (for legal reasons oafckev will not be handing over £100) 12: Big TV screen Would be a fine addition to BP. Make money from sponsorship and people love being filmed on big screens don't they! 13: Football coaches bringing in fans from local towns I know plenty of people who would love a coach to pick them up from towns like Middleton & Failsworth. 14: Friday night games - Coach to pubs/clubs after Copied from the Trannies but it helps their attendances. The coach to the clubs after is for pure selfish reasons So anybody else got idea's? Sarcastic idea's are welcome as well
  16. Maybe there's a few who like football but they'd much prefer to watch Man U than come to watch Oldham. The fear of coming to a lower league ground puts them off, so they end up at Old Trafford where they fit in more. Don't get me wrong, I couldnt care less if any race/colour was coming to BP but I think we should concentrate our efforts on the white population as we know we could lure these people into the ground on a Saturday with a bit of good marketing. I'd hapily work as the Marketing guy at Oldham because there are many of idea's not being used by the club and they don't do anything about it. Like many people have said - Who is the current Marketing bloke?? If you are reading this please speak up, tell us who you are, what you've done etc..
  17. Not being racist but why spend money on pakistanis/bangladeshis trying to come to Latics when we know fully well that they don't like football. Fair enough if we had a chinese population in Oldham then maybe we could. Plus they don't have the spare money to splash out on football. The match day experience at Oldham is shocking, improve that then you'll gradually win fans back.
  18. I prefer a chairman to do that than say nothing and keep us wondering. That's why I respect these guy's as people, most would give the same old message of 'please renew etc'. To pick a few things out then: 1- Injuries : 'Answers will be found' - How? poor training facilities, new physio, soft players?? 2 - Money : Made a loss of £380k - Could be worse but you could blame the players for not putting in a performance against Hudds in cup. 3 - Development : Credit crunch had effected them, reviewing plans (maybe build more houses than flats?), Stand + Clayton coming down beggining of June. Also, we have shoplifters and sponsors that turn up then not pay afterwards. The bailiff's are out!
  19. Makes me laugh how the stewards do their military style routine after every game incase of a pitch invasion. Then on the last home game of the season (notorious for pitch invasions) they had no idea what to do, some were even helping kids onto the pitch! No point in the invasion today but it was always going to happen. Just hope the FA don't fine us.
  20. Is the flag going in the RRE next season? Would look good with a few banners knocking about.
  21. 1. There should be one organized asap before tickets go on sale, otherwise we'll be getting the old farts right in the middle of people who want to sing. 2. Singers should be put in the I section next to the moat. 3. Should think a few will be tempted especially with a singing section (hopefully) 4. I'm sure the atmosphere will be great. Plenty of people in Bp want to sing but have got into bad habits and need a re-lift. 5. Could do a poll but I think the majority would want a singing section - It pleases everyone.
  22. £308 is about what I expected to be honest and I'll be renewing. I never see why people complain that the last season was poor so they don't renew the next season. You support the club and the badge through thick and thin. If all the part timers turned up every week the club would turn over more money and therefore could buy better players to get out of this league. The RRE will be a decent craic next season so £13 a game will be good value. Those who don't want to turn up next season, fine. Follow the sheep, buy the merchandise and go F*ck off and support Man United!
  23. I think he's not good enough for a team wanting to get promotion out of this league, which is what we'll be trying next season. I personally think that Lewis and Deano are better prospects. A league below would suit Wolfenden more I think. Not a bad game today for him and he's not had much of a run but I've heard Shez complaining about him saying he needs to bulk up more to be a threat. Would I offer him a contract- No.
  24. What would get fan's back at BP? 1. Cheaper Tickets - Comes at a loss unless a lot get a ST/ turn up at the gate. 2. Better Football - We can hope but can't guarentee that. 3. Atmosphere- RRE Singers will boost it up a level! 4. Ease of access to the Ground - Bring back football specials from surrounding towns/villages. 5. Plenty of Booze - Bars in RRE which where I'll be anyways. 6. Local teams put up price - Not going to happen apart from Utd anyways. 7. Knowing when games are on - Sign at top of Sheepfoot, simple. 8. Less power mad Stewards - Upto people at the top to sort them out. 9. A star player - A crowd pleaser, Scholes available? maybe not yet eh. 10. Less Moaners - Well somethings you can't change.. 11. Decent music, cheerleaders, half time entertainment etc.. The club needs a big shake up, we can't rely on the good old days to keep us going. With the re-development nows the time to do things. Will any of these be done? I doubt it but if they want the gate to increase then some of these should be done as soon as possible.
  25. I don't see what hes said wrong: The play offs were over weeks ago - A lot agreed We have been very hot and cold all season - We beat Leeds and Everton away then lose at home to relegation teams so thats true. Too many injuries - Never seen a season with so many injuries before too many loan players - Losing Kilkenny and Bertrand was a loss then a late struggle to fit in other players expectation from the kids too high - Way too high, they've done well imo along with a manager who wont learn from his mistakes - Agree he's not perfect but he's young We should have made 2/3 perm signings in January - Very true It's been a poor season but it could of been a lot worse. I think Sheridan has done well in a different way to last year. He's learnt a lot more I can assure you that. Interesting to see what happens in summer.
