  1. One thing that wasn’t mentioned by many after Tuesday’s victory was how well Green did tracking back and getting his foot in… And while we’re on the subject, Fondop wins his fair share of defensive headers too
  2. Lawrence Looney, Co-Chair of Altrincham… “You don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps…”
  3. So 3-5-2. Hobson restored to the starting eleven. I wonder if we’ll see Green play as rwb instead of Sachdev? Also, Hammond to keep his place? And Lundstram has to be in last chance saloon surely?
  4. It’s all well to adopt a style of play that suits the personnel you have but… we are still seeing players afraid to play, lumping the ball forward aimlessly, playing with no urgency or anticipation. Our problem continues to be the midfield. Conlon apart, the likes of Ward, Lundstram and Hammond are still underperforming. Garner resorted to dropping deeper and deeper to get in the ball last night. Yes, Mellon turned it around in the second half but I don’t subscribe to the ‘it’s division five football’ mentality. The manager has to find a way of getting more from the players he inherited and from those he has brought in. Sachdev and Hammond have been disappointing so far - maybe they just need more time. Dallas and Walker have not been fit enough to play much…what’s that all about? League position has improved under MM but the football remains worryingly inconsistent.
  5. The weather forecast shows that it’s going to be persistently raining throughout the game tonight - let’s hope that the pitch survived the rugby boys and is still in reasonable nick. I will be forking out £9.50 of our English pounds for a single camera feed of the match on NLTV - here’s hoping that I get my money’s worth
  6. To put it quite simply… Its time for this squad of ours to turn up.
  7. Also applies to swathes of the country where there are many local clubs … there are some who just want to ‘support’ a team at the top of the league (oh and Man Utd)
  8. If Latics are at home on the same day and at the same time then more can pick Latics over city
  9. He was an early Latics hero of mine - brilliant in the air and a proper ‘old fashioned’ centre forward. It was a pleasure to listen to Sean speak so fondly of his dad and the time he spent at Oldham
  10. or if they do, tell him that he doesn’t need to SHOUT when he has a microphone in his hand!
  11. The great Ricky Holden used to cross the ball early, quite often not even attempting to beat the defender - he also scored a few too. * mind you, putting the ball into the box early is only successful if the strikers get in there too!
  12. You would need to deduct the season ticket holders from that
  13. I reckon we could get over 8k for this one
  14. Wasn’t he very shortsighted and needed contact lenses when playing?
  15. Probably right but when you look at this guys pedigree, he has to be one worth watching - also, with his contract up this year .,.
  16. I have been to Brentford half a dozen times since they got into the Premier League. (I have a mate who is a season ticket holder) Their new stadium, albeit small with a capacity of 17,250, is brilliantly equipped and the bars are run efficiently. The away fan allocation of 1700 is always sold out as are the home ends. I agree that the opening song of ‘Hey Jude’ is a strange one but the atmosphere is generally pretty good. We should be praising the club for its achievements I reckon.
  17. I know its been done to death on this thread, but it still makes me wonder why MM fails to get the team to play in many games. I accept that he sets them up over defensively but I refuse to accept that he asks them to hoof the ball away at every opportunity and tells them not to shoot or cross the ball when in good positions. I cannot fathom why he allows his teams play with no tempo when in possession, and no energy when closing down the opposition. I find it baffling that he sees his players so often fail to compete for the second ball and win tackles, and does not manage to improve it. Is he watching the same performances as we are? Him saying "we go again" is wearing very thin at the moment. Sort it Mickey!
