  1. Shattered my illusion as i always remember Wood & Whittle being good fullbacks !!!!!!!!!!
  2. Well trying to think positively i am hoping the opposite has happened , ie - Fane has been getting worse and worse with his reverse gear policy and at Rochdale he reached his nadir with the run of poor performances hence he was dropped for yesterdays game. Hoping the management sent him on with the order "rediscover your early season thrust" !!! Who knows but the game against the wombles will tell..
  3. Latics didn't make any comments after the game about it. If it was seen by ref then surely it would have been red card and a penalty. Good excuse that Robbo missed in his aftermatch interview !!!!!
  4. More like he elbowed the ref for that sort of ban. Can only assume he must have took a chunk out of Clarke with his teeth then spat it in his face!!
  5. Part of the problem is Green is doing too much, Fane is a very weak link and everytime he gets the balls the first thing he does is turn back towards our own goal , he is always on the wrong side of his man and Green is forever trying to cover a lot of ground. Drop Fane and have Green as the sole defensive holding player , take a lot of pressure of the back line by putting more men forward in the midfield area and you will see a different Green. Green should be winning the ball and playing it forward to somebody like Flynn , at the moment he is trying to do both.
  6. A lot of our problems are basic positional errors that the manager can't seem to sort out. At corners for instance , either for or against we never have anybody in the D on the edge of the box , when Dale had corners the defensive headers dropped in the zone and they had 2 or 3 players lined up to have a pop . At the other end when we had a corner Dale also have players in that position to clear up and start a break. Same when we are attacking , long clearance from the goalie out wide left to Erwin , he wins header and puts it in the only place he can , back inside towards the edge of their box but our midfield players are 30 yards behind and just crossing the halfway line. It true what Eyres said on GMR , we are constantly under pressure and chasing the ball because of poor positional play. Against Scunny we played much higher up the pitch with midfielders breaking into their box and we know how that worked out. We play 2 holding midfielders which creates a huge gap between them and the front 2 which then brings them back into our half looking for the ball. Dales goal came about because Erwin lost the ball in OUR half when he shouldn't be there. It seems that Robinson is the only one that cant see it and he is just drifting into a situation where his job will eventually come under pressure. Can't see why we can't go about our games in the same manner as the Scunny game, yes we will lose some but we will win more than currently and it will be far better entertainment than currently being dished up. Come on Robinson sort it out , the players are good enough to compete at this level - ARE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!
  7. As well as everybody played last night the big difference was the tactics. For the first time this season we got men in their box , every time we attacked we had options on both sides and down the middle. Also we left players up at their set pieces which meant that when it was cleared out it stayed out and didn't come straight back. It was a performance the fans have been crying out for a long long time. Even had we lost i would still have enjoyed an excellent game at BP for the first time in many years. Scunthorpe helped in the way they play which allows you to play yourself's , i think Bristol will be the same on Saturday as they play a similar game. The trick is now to keep it going , any teams that leave BP in future must go away knowing that they have had to work their whatnots off to get a result instead of the usual "easiest 3 points this season" Well done Latics and keep it up !!!!!!!!!!!
  8. When ball No 33 came out i swear i could hear half the fans of other teams left in the draw shouting , yes please let it be us next !!!!!!!!!!
  9. very noticable on the clips of away games is how many players we get in the oppostition box when we attack. At home when we get the ball upto the penalty areas we usually have one in the box and the midfield just crossing the halfway line. Sling a ball in the box with 4 or 5 players in there and things will happen . That's why we can't score at home , we play far too deep.
  10. Weren't we the last team to score double figures in a league match - Southport 11-0. I know Utd scored 10 in one game but i think it was in the FA Cup ?
  11. That report makes it sound like Charlton played the same as Latics did against Swindon. Only difference is they din't lose like we did !!
  12. He never beat a man because he was a master at getting free kicks, also he could cross a ball which is something a lot of professional footballers cant do today !!!!
  13. Given the poor crowds we get i can't believe anybody is shocked by how small our budget is !!!!!!
  14. Shrewsbury equalised from a corner that was cleared and came straight back. Leave one up and whilst it makes no difference to them leaving 2 back it does put pressure on them and in a lot of cases stops the ball coming straight back.
  15. The one comment of his that disappointed me tonight. Just because others do it so we have too ?? Others score goals but we don't !!!!
  16. Croft did ok when he first came on down the left. Changed to the right when McLaughlin came on and reverted back to :censored:e. I know it's work in progress big unless we get a mid player that can pass a ball forward we are going to struggle for goals.
  17. I fail to see how Winchester can't get in that midfield!!!!
  18. I see their No 24 was at it again today against Bury & trying to control the game. Glad to see a decent ref give him his just rewards, 2 yellows and off. If only we had that ref last week, just proves how much refs can influence a result!!!
  19. See Haines has been dropped from the FL list for this week's games. Let's hope it's permanent!!
  20. Some one said earlier that they heard Phil Dowd was the observer on Sat and they had to remind the ref at HT about shirt pulling. Don't know if it's true but given what happened it would make sense , however if true then it is totally out of order. The ref should be told before or after a game about things like this, he cant possibly be doing his job fairly if he is working under different interpretations for each half , albeit his own interpretations. Just shows how out of touch even the observers are and it's the blind leading the blind.
  21. The point made about the numbers in the box is valid. It cost is the equaliser on Saturday. We cleared the corner but it came straight back because we had nobody outside the box. Even just leave on up and that can take the pressure off when it's cleared. On every corner I would leave 2 at the halfway line and one on the edge of the box.
  22. Most fans know the difficulty that refs have especially especially the way players behave. Most accept that refs will make mistakes, all most of us want is consistency. If shirt pulling is a penalty at one end then it should be a penalty at the other.
  23. Fane's problem is he is always tackling from behind. He doesn't read the game properly at the moment and is often stretching to make tackles when he is on the wrong side of the opponent. He will learn in time and this is his learning curve.
  24. I like the one that a famous old player (can't remember his name) came out with in the tunnel before kick off - Player "Ref if i call you a tw*t will you send me off"? Ref - "yes i would" Player - Ref if I think your a tw*t will you send me off" Ref - "No I Can't send you off for what you think" Player - Ref I think you are a tw*t " Classic.
