  1. Barry, After your recent response to questions about lee hughes, there are now no end of stories being branded about. If Lee is likely to leave or is in contract negotiations then it would be nice if the club would inform the fans with the facts. Thanks.
  2. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A44802524 have ronnie moore please, hes far better...
  3. great result considerin the circumstances bein 2-0 down thanks to a shocking ref! sounds like the lads really gave it their all 2nd half, hughesy outstanding again and taylor/whitaker shudda nicked it at the end. still well in the promo hunt, 3pts next week VITAL as leeds play mk dons and leicester vs peterborough. scunny wont have it easy away at colchester after their result today, GOTTA TAKE ADVANTAGE THIS TIME!! RE Leicester are too good - i disgagree didnt think they were great at BP we more than matched them and shudda beat em in 2nd half, nothin to fear at the walkers, expected to lose there which usually means a good result! KTF
  4. obviously with the clause being in then its not the clubs fault if he goes, but they agreed to it in the first place and surely they knew if he would find form like he has done and we're doing well that clubs would be after him and we'd lose him halfway through the season??! Id rather they told us when he originally signed that way we would have all expected this and would have come to terms with it. right ye so every time we get a good player who is out of contract in 6 months we sell, that way we're defiantely going to have success....!
  5. Hughes can go — if the price is right Reporter: MICHAEL YARWOOD Date online: 01/12/2008 TOP scorer Lee Hughes can leave Athletic for £400,000 during next month’s transfer window. A release clause in the striker’s contract allows him to quit Boundary Park if any club comes up with the minimum offer. The decision would be taken out of Athletic’s hands and, although no bids have been received, there is a distinct chance of rivals teams exploiting the situation. Championship strugglers Doncaster are among the clubs watching Hughes (32), who has hit nine goals this season and is due out of contract in June. Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy admitted: “It could well be the case that Doncaster are interested in Lee, and I suppose a lot of clubs should be because he’s a good player. “We wouldn’t want to sell any of our good players while we are challenging for promotion, but it looks like clubs have been made aware of the release clause in Lee’s contract.” Hughes has spent most of his career in the top two divisions and is keen on a return to the Championship. If any clubs trigger the clause by offering £400,000, Athletic will be powerless. And unless there is a bidding war, they will not receive a higher fee. Alternatively, Hughes could wait until his deal runs out next summer and then walk away as a free agent. Athletic, however, hope he will stay throughout their promotion push and fulfil his Championship ambitions at Boundary Park. The former Coventry and West Brom star – who once commanded a transfer fee of £5million — is settled in the area and has rebuilt his career since leaving prison. But Athletic are bracing themselves for a busy transfer window as offers are also expected for winger Chris Taylor, and possibly other members of the squad. Meanwhile, the home league match against Leeds United has been brought forward 24 hours to Monday, March 2, and will be live on Sky Sports. WHICH IDIOT PUT A CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT!! You'd hope he shows loyalty by staying til june, then if we go up/dont go up and he wants to stay or go then we can part on amicable terms. A mate of mine says Donny couldnt afford 400k but we'll wait and see. Im just sick of football, as soon as we have something good at this club it gets broken up.....
  6. unless we get an offer of £500k + for eardley and £1mill+ for taylor we keep everyone. We'd never know what might have been if we let hughes/taylor go in jan. Id rather hughes left for free in june having had a full season with us, if we dont go up thanks lee good luck, sell taylor etc. Yes if hughes has said he doesnt want to sign a new deal whatever the situation then by all means sell, if he is waiting to see what league we're in come may then do as above I.E. DO NOT SELL!! P.S. Why would hughes go to donny anyway? besides a big pay cheque if he wants to play in the chapionship next year theres a good chance donny are coming back down, and if they did stay up they'd be down again the following year. But what can we do about he stays and goes, all we can do is hope.
  7. probably regard it as sad (and i will probably agree with you!) but having been on a marathon session last night playing games 26-46 i managed to get promotion through the playoffs in my 1st season after finishing 6th! sold davies wolfenden and ogrady, whitaker was superb got 15 goals and player of the year, hughesy 21 goals. Kieran lee plays great just about anywhere. get andy carroll in alonside hughes from newcastle, lewi is great as back up and now worth 750k. byfield will come on loan after a bit, good addition. fleming great as a no1. 4-4-2 works best with pace down the sides, interchanging liddell and smalley. get whits pushing on, allott/maher holding and its good to put the 2 wingers further up the pitch almost acting as extra strikers. 4-5-1 works well away from home against the better sides but you should do well really whatever system you play!. Leeds and Leicester went up 1st and 2nd, also in the mix was us, mk dons, southend and for some reason swindon!
  8. BBC 606: Confirmed interviews... League One Huddersfield Town by nolski (U13705016) 20 November 2008 Hi guys - I'm new on here, but have been a reader for some time. I usually post on DATM but it's been blocked at work! Anyway, I have from an extremely reliable source that John Sheridan was interviewed yesterday, and Aidy Boothroyd is interested but is waiting to see what Town have to offer first. You heard it here first! wednesday was the players day off, owners probs be prepared to let him go/get compo from town based on the recent happenings. Bigger budget at town, knows if he doesnt get us up then he'll probs be out of a job come may. wouldn't suprise me if he did go. Thoughts?
  9. step forward the man motivator and attractive-football-playing - STEVE COTTERILL
  10. nope, thats definately the one cog in his brain operating at full speed!
  11. everything corney said in the interview had been said to the people concerned prior to the interview as simon stated 'ive spoken to hughes/gregan/shez' He was only relaying his thoughts to the fans as he was clearly frustrated just as much as us, and needed to air his views. In hindsight it hasnt gone down well, but he had every right to say what he said and I fully agree with all the points that he raised. Hughes was an idiot, we were shocking against yeovil and have been poor prior to that minus scunthorpe. If we had fought and really tried against yeovil and lost i doubt there would have been the uproar that occurred but seeing as we were so disinterested in winning the game and putting in any sort of performance which the players were quite happy to do against scunthorpe, the outburst followed. To be fair, if Tommy and the players cant take what corney said on the chin in a constructive manner then they should think again about what being a footballer involves. They should have been ashamed themselves of what happened against yeovil and the other lesser teams in terms of their performances and agree with corney's sentiments. footballers get paid very nicely for kicking a ball around a bit of grass 2hrs a week on saturday and the odd 2hr training session 3 times a week. People in high pressure jobs, eg doctors/nurses etc earn, in some cases, less in a year than certain footballers and they deal with peoples lives - thats pressure. We shouldnt pussy foot around footballers with all this 'oh it will damage morale/confidence better not be honest and tell it how it is' and treat them as untouchable beings. Their roles on the pitch arent rocket science to perform to a high standard and to not give any sort of effort or to surrender weakly to, being honest, inferior opposition, is an insult to the paying public and owners. All we as fans and the owners want is 100% effort from players and management for 2hrs every week. We certainly havent had that recently barring scunthorpe. As a player surely you would aim work your socks off every game so it can be said that if not successful as a team, 'at least so and so tried' or 'at least they all gave it a go.'. Get it sorted shez/players or im sure many people if they havent already will begin to think if i work hard all week, why should i waste my money on a saturday watching half hearted displays. Effort=support of fans=winning=success=championship no effort=less fans support=losing=failure=league 1 you decide players......
  12. Crossley Eardley (RWB) Hazell (CB) Stam (CB)(for the next couple of games, let greegs get his head sorted) Jones (LWB) Allott/Maher (DM) Lee(RCM) Whitaker(CM) Taylor (LCM) Hughes Alessandra (ST) (ST) SUBS: Fleming, Gregan, Allott/Maher, Smalley, Lomax Eardley and Jones to bomb on, whitaker, lee and taylor to play more central, also can change to a 442 with this as well if needed with lee moving to orthodox RM, looked good though going forward centrally at burnley. (wouldnt involve liddell, ogrady as neither give us much at present to warrant a place in my opinion) PICK THIS TEAM SHEZ AND STICK WITH IT!!
  13. to hear tommy's thoughts on latics world, 'things have been said which were bang out of order' 'Hard to lift the players' 'Rumblings in the dressing room' seems the staff didnt take too kindly to the interview by corney and hardy..
  14. precisely my point - against the lower teams the players should have exactly the same work ethic and will to scrap for a result against teams they should be beating. If it were me and id just played in a team that'd beaten scunthorpe, id go into the next game vs yeovil thinking that i would put in the same effort to win, otherwise the win against scunthorpe would be worthless and so it proved. its a mental thing with our players not ability, and on this front i dont thnk shez has it in him to get them going as they should do.
  15. yes but at the end of the day the manager who manages his employees ie the players, is responsible for their performances and for the last 10 games ours have been poor to say the least. Yeovil was a game where effort and will to do the basics like run, pressure and tackle was required, not one of them looked interested barring 5 mins at the start and end. Motivation in general seems to be poor at the moment. A few have lost form as well which needs addressing by offering a chance to other players eg maher stephens lee etc. Either that or sticking with a squad of 18 players, picking the best 11 and letting them play for a few games to get some understanding - not chopping every game and loaning players out. we all want the best for shez and the club and to progress - prendy it seems to me that losing 4 away games, in the manner we have, is acceptable to you. It isnt to myself or the vast majority of other fans and the owners who have invested large levels of time and money and want some sort of return especially this season. If a company suffers a dip in performance, questions are asked and sometimes heads roll in order to move forward and achieve the aim of improving in the future. This is the same for shez. It seems to me he has all these players and hasnt a clue how to manage them, who to play ahead of who and in what formation, or how to change it when things are wrong. i hope shez succeeds in getting us up as i like the bloke as a person, but the past 6 weeks have made me ask questions as to his ability to take us to our next level of improvement ie promotion. id like to see steve cotterill in if he does go, he got burnley up/kept them up well on a shoestring and plays good attacking football and is a mans man. I think shez is too pally with the players. He needs to stand back and see things from a fans point of view in terms of how we play and who to pick rather than being blinkered all the time in certain players form. i suggest he sits in the directors box and views the game from up there, far better perspective on the game and would see what we see But what do I know i dont posess the coaching badges supposidly required to manage a team.....
  16. if he does go, id like to see steve cotterill come in BALLS WHAT AM I SAYING - 2-2!!!
  17. The mighty Chris Hall............... IN HOLLYOAKS
  18. Craig Davies has been removed from our squad list? computer glitch or something we dont know about......?
  19. SHUT UP!! ALL THIS 'IN HOUSE' CRAP!! Corney is 100% SPOT ON! He said exactly the things that i (and i take it the majority) of fans were and are thinking, honestly, after saturdays display. There are absolutely no excuses for not beating or at least putting some effort in against yeovil and claiming a point. Hughes was idiotic. If i was investing money etc into the club and saw the performance we gave on saturday, with our circumstances squad wise etc, id be mightly peed off as well!! ALL HAIL MR CORNEY!!!! P.S that donought looked yummy...........
  20. who do you scout for Lordy?, did peter ward at stockport tip you bout davies? or did you go and tell him he wasnt getting in our 16 and was available??!!
  21. i actually know lordy, he is a sound lad with a great knowledge of the game and he calls it like he sees it.
  22. tonights team is exactly the team i would play for a few games now and see how we go. Pace on the flanks rather than having 10 men with 'ive scored a free kick/pen thats me in for next week' liddell. Nice one shez!!
  23. who cares - what will be will be! if we are good enough (barring referee decisions) we will get as many points as we deserve in the next 3 games, lets all hope for 9 and see how we go!
  24. Have you seen eardley play mate? Ill admit lomax isnt the greatest at passing but he has far better distribution ability than eardley. People bang on about how great eardley is, yet his role is to stop crosses coming in and tackle wingers, he never does the former and manages to do the latter due to his pace as his positioning is woeful. He is extremely overrated in my eyes, sometimes i wonder what people know about football and the roles carried out in the various positions on the pitch. Jones has shown what standard of performance eardley needs to be at. He has been in the team since he was 17 and he is now 20, and i see little improvement in the weak areas of his game. I hope he improves greatly in the future but currently in my view he isnt doing his job properly and lomax deserves a run.
