  1. Agree with many on here - he certainly wasnt the worst ever manager - no one can beat Mr Penney for that title as he drained all the life and soul out of the Latics and I for one aint been back since after 40+ years patronage. With the team he had we should have sailed out of the division but the woefull tactics and grinding out hoofball wins meant going home depressed even after 3 points won !. Rotherham away in a midweek fixture put a tin hat on it for me - we got battered 3-0 IIRC and the roverum faithful were singing his name and he responded by waving to them all match but totally ignored the good sized Latics following behinfd the away goal. We played dire and hoofball ron showed his total clueless managerial skills and we capitulated. He again waved at the roverum fans at the final whistle and didnt have the decency to applaud the Oldham fans at all.Total knob. Also remember Barnsley away - think we drew the match and Andy Ritchie was their manager - cue massive applause from the travelling fans - Rons face was like thunder and he again never acknowledged the away support altho Andy Ritchie applauded both sets of fans. As I say, total knob - maybe not a donkey as such but a first class w**ker !
  2. yep was there in the back of the chaddy end - was a mad day - went for an underaged pint or two in the Golden Eagle on Rochdale Rd - long since demolished but was a good traditional boozer - West Brom fans everywhere all totally bladdered and falling out of cars / vans / minibuses etc along Rochdale Rd. Chaddy End had a small gang of Bolton scroates in cheering for the Latics as if we won they would get promotion IIRC - West Brom deservedly won and it was mayhem - and to cap iy all the Bolton fans got a well deserved kicking for their arrogance. I remember leaving past the RRE and no WBA fans at all as they were still in the ground - think it was 'interesting' later on in the town centre tho ! :bobby:
  3. he looked the part but never really delivered and failed to win over the fans although he had moments when you could tell he had potential. 29 is way to young - a very very sad piece of news. RIP Richard and family. Never a latics favourite but a thoroughly decent bloke. Tragic.
  4. after 40 odd years of following the 'tics I remember Bill Cranston as a seriously hard center back - (scottish if my memory serves me right) - took no prisoners. Andy Lochhead was a tough nut as well back in the day. Guy Branston was just a physical thug - not a 'hard man' just a dirty brute and waste of a shirt. Matthew Tipton made me smile - Chaddy used to chant 'psycho' when in fact he was as soft as s**t !. Ian Marshall was hard - no doubt about that. Ronnie Blair was tough too but not dirty. Toughest ever ? - in my memory, unless have missed an obvious one, mini-shez - total nutter and one who you would like to have near you if it kicked off on a friday night. hard as nails - end of ! just thought of a couple more - Swailes from Roverum - tough as old boots but never fit enough to do himself justice and Appleby - old gunslinger who was dirty and crude but never 'tough' in the good sense. Darren Sherridan take a bow son !!
  5. Dale televised game on friday v redsox FCUM team- lotsa tv money n big gate - methinks someone decided that game couldnt be at risk so pulled plug (no pun intended!) on our game. Conspiracy !!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. one of the many Rochdale 'tics. love idea of new stadium but citehs backyard not for me. To manc for my liking !
  7. Merry Monk looked shut last time I passed - will check later. Used to be a handy place to have a pint or two and not too far from ground. Albion also I think is closed at mo as previous landlord left - not sure it is open at mo - is also a fair distance from Spotland. A lot of old pubs now closed - those near the station - Navigation ?, Albert and Highland Laddie on Spotland Rd. Cemetery probably best as is Litten Tree due to its size. Trendy pub in Rochdale at mo is Dog & Partridge on Bury Rd but further up Eleohant n Castle also closed !! Baum has good beers and good atmosphere and is prob about 20 mins brisk walk from ground. Local scrotes use a few pubs at the town end of Whitworth Rd - Tanners Arms / Brickmakers - both sheds !
  8. hey Diego - scoring against manure in them semi-finals at Citeh when our 'goal that never was' in replay by Nick Henry should have got us to wemberlee was pretty good too !!
  9. cant believe anyones worried about rochdales mini-chavs. I happen to live n work in Rochdale and know who the majority of these neanderthals are - the majority of Dale fans find them a total embarrasment - they normally do a bit of posturing and then leg it pronto. As someone said earlier, keying cars near Sandy lane / Older Hill school is about their limit ! A few years ago they were a rag bag bunch of 14 yr old scrotes but now a bit older but still useless scrotes ! We've all been to much tougher places than the Dale over the years - Forest, Wolves, Everton, Burnley, Leeds etc. Huddersfield n Tranmere have more intimidating fans and no-ones ever been worried about going there ! Majority are banned as they turned up pissed on a coach at Grimsby a couple of years ago, were refused admission and then went to Bury and caused trouble in a pub - got arrested and long bans for all ! Total chav soft-arsed lowlifes - no need to let any scaremongering worry anyone - they are harmless muppets !
  10. if failsworth then rapidly dwindling crowds in citehs backyard and no interest from locals, slipping into oblivion. Hope somehow BP comes good but cant really see that in present economic climate. Probably ground share at Spotland seems best of a bad job to me. depressing.
  11. Ive worked in manchester for several years in the less 'salubrious' districts - Gorton, Hulme, Longsight, Openshaw, Beswick and Ancoats - altho many are ok folk, a lot of the natives are as said earlier in the thread - uncouth and lairy and aggressive. Add to it a heavy sprinkling of criminality, lack of any morality, chav mentality and total lack of culture wrapped in an obnoxious arrogance and you have your typical manc. Dont get me wrong - I like a good day/night out in manc but its ruined by the mancunian scroats who lurk around the place. A similar breed to those who inhabit the districts of Newton Heath, New Moston, Miles Platting and F******rth !!!! Tis impossible to seperate mancunian mentality from FAILsworth - they all piss in the same pot !
  12. deepest sympathies Mr S. Remember all the good times with a smile. take care. phil.
  13. I know Bob - tis a local matter ! better than bournmouth or more southern softie lightweight passionless teams post conference. Berry, bury, burrito - dont matter - tis a good bus ride and several scoops away from gr8 awayday ! (and the obligatory 3 points too !) ktf
  14. as grim as it has been this season so far with all the negative mindsets and playing not to loose , one of the worst factors has been the geography of L2 and the southern bias but with tonites results both Rochdale and Berry are up for promotion. After the dross and long distance awaydays this is a real bonus. Rochdale (where i live btw) is a real dump but the 2 fixtures would be mega in terms of atmosphere and days out and Berry is a quality day out - market - pubs - journey etc. To me this is the inspiration we need to avoid the absolute death knell of relegation to L2. With a look at Ipswich, Plymouth and Posh relegated we need the local derbies to keep it interested ! If both Dale and Berry get promoted and 'Tics stay up then ST for next season is sorted - if not then ....... well whatever. Keepin the faith .......... just ...............
  15. looks a cracking little stadium and maybe would be a nice little complex around too - if only it wasnt in citeh's back yard and deep into manc territory it would be ideal. I know the argument over location has been repeated many times but failsworth is a no-no for me. It just aint Oldham never mind what civic boundaries say ! Oldham may not be the most appealing town in the north but failsworth just aint right !!!
  16. spot on mate ! - we (the fans) do care. But it seems increasingly like that several players on the pitch dont give a monkeys ! I accept that with injuries etc that several players are out of position - but that applies to all clubs all season long ! The real issue is that if a few dont give a fook then they MUST be told to f off or shape up. We need to turn up and play to win. it really is as simple as that. If DP persists in playing for draws then the games up and bring on Stevenage ! The spirit of Latics was always about giving your best and battling on. Shame our American friends never told DP about our heritage eh? Get it sorted DP or give a trier a chance ! (Dux, Eyrsey??) Attack, attack attack atack attack !!!!!!
  17. escuses dont wash pots. Penny needs to play to win games simple as. Boss games and collect the 3 points. DP strikes me as an intelligent man but his tactics come over as niave and idiotic at times. We cant pussyfoot around as we plummet down the table. Someone said to me today 'We are too good to go down'.. You can guess my reply !. I dont really care about injuries - I care about what I see when I punt my £20 over the counter and see half hearted prima donnas going thru the motions and wonder where there professional pride is. I know all players should try and that if our team dosnt win in could be because the other team really tried more but now its getting beyond a joke. At least we need to be seen to be trying to win from the kick off mr Penny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But hey, never mind my opinion, I've only been punting my cash in to you for decades. What do you care. (fook all probably !) Bring on FAILS(worth).
  18. fair comment ritchie - am 51 now tho altho act about 18 still !!!. have alwatys loved following the Latics but this last year it just aint seemed the same. Hated Talbolt and RM - liked it when Shez took over - the atmosphere at the Tramps when we got beat on 1st day summed it up, hope and goodwill but it didnt last. Prob was Shez was a Manc wide boy with a history of laddish behaviour and a serious drinking culture. Didnt help with Greegs, Hughsie and Windass at the club either. Shez meant well but didnt have the discipline and was too set in his ways. DP came in any , guess what, tried to change the squad totally. It aint nothin to do with funding but his own picks who were not right for moving the club on. So - negative tactics, playing for draws, losing when we should have won coupled with credit crunch = disaster. Aint rocket science. DP has chosen wrong tactics at wrong time. Much as it galls me look at Kieth Hill at Rochdale - positive passing foootball and bossin games - hey presto - top of the league. Dont anyone say well tis only old 4th division. Think Carlisle, Donny, Scunny, peterboro etc.. they deserve to go up because they play to win. Wake up Dave Penny and cop on or else we are in Div 4 again and I am back where I started 42 years ago !!!!! Keepin the faith (just !) Phil.
  19. yep. probably about 42 tbh.. Never felt so pissed off as now tho. Back in the old 4th division - Jim Fryatt, Kieth Bebbington, Les Chapman and all the rest - real people - real triers. Season in, season out. These days every year a complete new squad of mercanaries and loanees. it aint the same my friend ! hey - you know me - have been a loyal thru thick n thin - please dont ever question my 40yrs + - it aint negociable !
  20. at the risk of upsettin the happy clappy brigade, if we allow DP to continue with his playground tactics of never trying to win a game we will have : a) no fans left no FL status c) no player who give a f*** d) no BP - but a nice empty stadium at Falsworth 1/10 pupouated by manc scroats Get rid of the moron - anyone with half a brain could do better. I want to be here long after tosspots like Penny have moved on, but if we let it all happen we wont have a club left to support. Penny f*** off NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. hey mate - i've bin there for 40 years thru thick n thin - from Bradford Park Avenue to OT and wemberlee and Formby and Chasetown and have never felt so disenfranchised as I do now. Have spent thousands following the 'tics but it has NEVER EVER been so :censored: as now. We always used to have triers if not talent but now we have a squad who dont know each other and dont give 2 :censored:s. It has never been as bad as it is now as so many have lost the faith. Failsworth says it all - worth f*** all and doomed to failure ! OAFC RIP if this shyte continues ! Keep BP alive anydtry to win and entertain or else Failsworth is a Conference nightmare for citeh nomarks or local scroats but aint for the blues of Oldham and anyone who thinks that it is aint right in the head ! Penny out !! FFS the guy aint got a clue !!!!!!!!!!
  22. first game in a while for me today and fancied a few beers and a good shout for the blues but left so pissed off was untrue. Game was there for the taking and with sending off we should and could have nailed it but wasnt to be. In past seaons we would have filled the away end no probs but today was barely noticable. Why so ?? - coz of the negative mind-nunbing tactics our manager chooses to deploy !!. FFS TTA and get rid of this moron before you have no club left to bring to failsworth where no one wants to be !! More pissed off than ever have ben in 40+ years. Thanks DP for destroying our club ..... now f*** off !
  23. the problem is that altho we all want DP to be successful that he has already lost a huge section of fan base due to negative play and insipid tactics. Ok so whats next - well Ronnie was a grade 1 who lost the fans early doors with his old pals act / long ball theory and then shez lost the fans wirth his 'win or lose have a booze ' mentality. so we got DP . so guess what - another complete change over of personnel- which we all know never ever works, but what the fook. So we go to the monkey hangers with a bit of christmas cheer and get what we deserve - fook all !. was hoping today to be proved wrong but was exactly what expected. Latics have never been so un-inspiring to watch in the last 40 years. Penny off and do us all a favour !. Lost the faith.
  24. the dross served up throught the year and the Shez fiasco meant me losing the faith for 1st time in 40 years. Unfortunately I have now found much happier saturdays now - mooching round manchester having few beers and good times. When I pop into a pub to see results at 4.50 I usually have a wry smile and think 'thank god i wasnt there !'. Then read reports of match and get same old same as of uneventful match, neglible chances created and virtually no entertainment. DP has drained all the fun and passion out of watching the Latics and Failsworth just fills me with dread and will never see me go there would it ever happen. Hope to start going again in 2010 but at minute cant find the enthusiasm whilst DP gpoes thru the motions with couldntgivea:censored: half fit loanees or non-triers. Entertain the punters mr Penny and maybe the fans will come back - keep up the same drivel and watch the club drift into oblivion. HNY everyone !
