  1. We genuinely don't know a great deal about AL or the deal to buy the club. The Trust have been on the outside of all this too. How do we know AL is the right buyer? We don't, we have to trust SC is selling to a buyer that has the best interests of Oldham Athletic at heart. There's a certain air of excitement, expectation and lots of nervousness on my part. AND nothing's concrete yet, there's a nagging doubt at the back of my mind this might all go tits up. After-all this is Latics....and Moisely suggested the EFL have already asked for more information on the proposed takeover which suggests it might not be a straight forward purchase. I don't really know the timescales of all this but it seems to be dragging on a bit...
  2. Legend? Fuck No! Famous and remembered for the notoriety of his tenure? Fuck Yeah!
  3. It's never been personal, I want what he tells all and sundry he wants - the best for Oldham Athletic. Over the last 6 or 7 years - the best hasn't been Simon Corney he's kept us afloat - JUST! But surely now we deserve a time of looking forward. I'm still highly suspicious of who this takeover benefits. Just what is AL getting for his money? I believe the club can only TRULY move forward if the sale includes the ground. The land I couldn't give a toss about the club for 100 years sat on its land and if Stott had any modicum of ambition then that same land could have made us a real player in the 90s when we had the money to move the club forward, when SportsPark 2000 died a death they should have immediately looked at getting BP redeveloped, land prices were high it could and should have been done. Instead they chose to look after themselves and royally screwed up our day in the sun and potentially a legacy for generations to come. But that's another story. Back to Simon Corney and i'm sure he'll stay involved in some capacity I won't remember his time as chairman with particular fondness and I hope we can do our business out of the limelight. I hope the appointment of Wellens and AL's possible takeover bring everyone together and we move forward in harmony instead of the fractured fanbase we have become.
  4. Ritchie/Bunn then later Ritchie Marshall are the best I've seen with a nice cameo of Ritchie/Palmer have been the best I've seen. Players who have hit double figures all comps in the last 31 seasons... 86/87 Palmer 17 Futcher 15 32 Goals Between Them 87/88 Ritchie 21 Palmer 20 Bunn 9 50 Goals Between Them 88/89 Ritchie 16 Palmer 15 Bunn 13 44 Goals Between Them 89/90 Ritchie 28 Palmer 20 Bunn 13 51 Goals Between them 90/91 Marshall 18 Redfearn 17 Ritchie 15 Palmer 10 60 Goals Between Them 91/92 Sharp 15 Marshall 10 25 Goals Between Them 92/93 Olney 13 93/94 Sharp 11 94/95 McCarthy 18 Ritchie 13 31 Goals Between Them 95/96 Sean McCarthy 12 Lee Richardson 11 23 Goals Between Them 96/97 Stuart Barlow 13 97/98 Stuart Barlow 13 98/99 No Player hit double figures 99/00 Allott 11 Whitehall 11 22 Goals Between Them 00/01 Duxbury 10 01/02 Eyres 13 02/03 Eyres 16 Wijnhard 13 Andrews 12 41 Goals Between Them 03/04 Vernon 14 04/05 KIllen 15 Vernon 10 25 Goals Between Them 05/06 Beckett 18 Liddell 11 Warne 10 39 Goals Between Them 06/07 Porter 23 Warne 11 Liddell 11 45 Goals Between Them 07/08 Davies 14 08/09 Hughes 18 Taylor 11 29 Goals Between Them 09/10 Abbott 13 10/11 Taylor 11 Stephens 10 21 Goals Between them 11/12 Kuqi 16 12/13 Jose Baxter 15 Matt Smith 11 26 Goals Between Them 13/14 Philliskirk 12 14/15 Forte 15 15/16 No one in double figures 16/17 No one in double figures 17/18 Doyle 9 Davies 7 Currently on 16 between them - just for the record, we hit our 16th League Goal last season on 28th January against Bradford City! My 32nd season this and in that time we've only not had a player hit double figures on THREE occasions. TWO of those have been the last two seasons...wow!
  5. Would that be the same Hereford we beat 4-0 at BP then asolutely twatted us 5-0 in the return?
  6. Predicting Latics results is as easy as predicting 6 numbers on the lottery, Take it one game at a time and enjoy the ride. Tomorrow is important - lose and we're back in the bottom 4. Win and we're looking up and sets up a cracker on Saturday, However, there's a lot of tired legs in our first XI the high intensity pressing game we play is beginning to have an effect. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of changes tomorrow night. Wilson for Bryan and maybe a midfield change given the knocks they are carrying.
  7. Having looked at the cost now doing a few days in London instead. Me and my son also taking in Fulham v Bristol City so another one ticked off. Seeing as we've got seats next to the tunnel, I'll be sure to pass on everyone's regards to the bloated dwarf. Is it me or does he look like a squirrel smuggling acorns?
  8. I thought Forest away was a shite draw, wasn't up for it at all. So much so I was plastered by the time we got there (Late) Cheers Bluebelle Bus (as per) Smith scores an own goal we were woeful...then probably the greatest 7 minutes as a Latics fan in 25 years. Love the FA Cup....
  9. Tbf A tenner for all would probably increase their gate. The discount is unnecessary in my book but welcome for ST holders.
  10. Genuine question, if you're not a ST holder, how many of the £5, £2 freebie type 'let's pack BP' offers have you taken advantage of over the last few years whilst ST holders have missed out on as they paid for their ticket at £14 a game the previous May? And no, I've never had a problem with discounted games as it gets people through the door but I know it grates with others. I don't see the issue the more the merrier as long as the freeloading day trippers 'aint sitting in my seat! On this occasion I'm pleased ST holders are getting a bit of a perk and yes we get first dibs for big games but in comparison to a lot of clubs at our level our ST are quite expensive. Tbf we're going for the pissup anyway and £15 is pretty reasonable when most clubs are charging around £25 for a league game these days.
  11. Eyre’s a clown listen to the crap he comes out with on GMR he’s clueless if he gets the job he’ll have us reverting to tippy tappy backwards clipboard shite in no time. stay clear
  12. Expectations? one game at a time and constantly looking up the table not down - that’ll do for me. if we continue to play in the manner we currently are - high energy pressing, getting the ball forward quickly and taking the game to the opposition then who knows!? I said last night that didn’t feel like 3rd v 17th it had the feeling of a top of the table clash. we didn’t look out of place...
  13. Warnock 97-98 Ritchie May 97 - October 2001 Duxbury, Shez, Eyres 2001 (C) Oct/Nov ‘01 Wadsworth Nov ‘01 - May ‘02 Dowie May ‘02 - Dec ‘03 Shez/Eyres Dec ‘03 - March ‘04 (C) Talbot March ‘04 - Feb ‘05 Philliskirk (C) Feb ‘05 Moore March ‘05 - June ‘06 Shez June ‘06 - March ‘09 Royle March ‘09 - May ‘09 Penney May ‘09 - April ‘10 Gray May ‘09 (C) Dickov June ‘10 - February ‘13 Philliskirk February ‘13 - March ‘13 Johnson March ‘13 - February ‘15 Holden ‘March ‘15 - May ‘15 Kelly May ‘15 - Sept ‘15 Dunn Sept ‘15 - January ‘16 Sheridan Jan ‘15 - May ‘15 Robinson July ‘16 - Jan ‘17 Sheridan Jan ‘17 - Sept ‘17 Wellens (C) Sept ‘17 - Oct ‘17 Wellens Oct ‘17 - Only SEVEN lasted at least a calendar year! only SIX have lasted for a FULL 46 game League season or more! madness!!!
  14. They do but we're four games in and the players are responding still to his changes. Bradford will be tough but get a point at least and we really will be getting giddy. The test is the next couple of weeks we play Tuesday/Saturday for 3 weeks on the trot. There'll be injuries and suspensions and more call ups to come how RW adjusts to those is the key. I would certainly give him a rolling year and reassess in the Summer. He's earned it for me.
  15. And belief and positivity goes a long way. We're all pissing in the same pot at the moment. Suddenly it's a whole lot more fun isn't it?
  16. Text a mate this afternoon. Whist we're only four games in and i'm not so sure about him emulating Big Joe's achievements, I see little shoots of what Grayson achieved at Blackpool in 06/07. A poor start from Blackpool, they flooded the team with new recruits and it suddenly clicked. A long way to go but these things don't happen by accident. Wellens for me has shown a maturity beyond his coaching experience - rather than being another clipboard clone he's a student of the game. His subs v Peterborough were astute, to do that again with similar affect yesterday is no fluke. He changed the shape of team, he made changes, he knows that when we stand off we're a poor outfit - instead he encourages a high press that works, that enables us to regain possession time and again. I truly haven't seen this since Shez's first season in 06/07 and before that under Dowie. Joe's teams consistently did this - teams that press high up the field that have pace and finishing ability tend to do well. Those that sit back playing tippy happy shit like we've endured for the last 8 or 9 years rarely score goals and lose 1 or 2 nil week after week and Shez's two half season spells apart those teams struggle.* We're off the pace at the moment but there's still 102 points to play for. The key to our season is securing Wellens, Byrne and Doyle at least until the end of the season.
  17. That’s why I bunged Tony Henry in there yeah I know it was Taylor - Gareth actually snatched the ball off Horlock their regular taker. I was on about an injury time wonder save from a Terry Cooke Free kick.
  18. Complete short arse but kept us in more games than I can remember. Two games against City stand out and saved pens in each. His late save from a FK at Maine Road in ‘99 was world class (Cooke?)
  19. Didn’t exactly send him packing we needed the money as per and Big Ron was an ample replacement
  20. Tony Henry chipped in with regular goals and put himself about
  21. I feel Correra will be a disaster just a hunch last thing we need is to be scrapping around in January for yet another manager, we should be looking up this really is a shit League this year that Wigan are going to walk everything else is up for grabs by the bravest teams if ever Freud was a year to play high pressing open expansive football - this us it!
  22. I fear we’ll revert to tippy tappy shit with 11 men behind the ball when Pablo Who? takes over. two things Wellens instilled immediately have been tempo and work rate - there’s mothing to fear in this league. Give Wellens his chance he’ll be cheap too spend correra’s bloated deal on Byrne and Doyle for once can OAFC show some sense
