  1. Here you go. OWTB League now up and running. Name: OWTB League Password: ohwhentheblues
  2. Whittaker was offered £2k per week at Port Vale (their maximum wage following relegation) but he turned it down as Latics offered more. Fleming was courted by several Clubs (Championship included) and so he won't be on peanuts. I think you underestimate what the modern day "in demand" footballer can earn. Contrary to popular belief, League One is attracting better players now than it ever has and they get paid accordingly.
  3. The shop was at King's Stores on King Street. I remember buying the Latics Subbuteo Team in the original tangerine and blue from there. It was the days before replica shirts were available but they sold flags; rosettes; rattles () and other 1970s essential items!
  4. Have you noticed how you never seem to see much of Pele since they invented Viagra?
  5. It summed him up today. An excellent shot for his goal while the next effort from an easier position ended up in The Humber. He's a decent defensive midfielder at times but inconsistent and not what we need.
  6. I thought the triallist LB was ok. Tall and quick and strong in the tackle. He made a couple of mistakes but generally, I thought he was alright. Demar Phillips was excellent and I really hope we get him signed up on a season long deal. He's got pace, tricks, skill and an ability to shoot and pass accurately. Looks to be a real grafter too and he deserved his ovation when subbed. Interesting that Gaspar the Argentinian was back for another chance to demonstrate what he could do. He again showed some nice touches and with better composure, could have helped himself to a goal or two. Lots of positives again today and we really do look to have real strength in depth.
  7. As Richie says, Abdul was the left back on Wednesday at Rhyl and he was absolutely gash. Most people there seemed to be having a good laugh at his expense at half-time and it was probably his only 45 minutes in a Latics shirt. I thought the keeper did well and the lad on the right was compact and ok. The stand out player for me though was the Argentinian lad on the left wing (Gaspar) although after some early good work, he faded a little as the half wore on. Like the rest, he appeared to speak no English. He wasn't afraid to shoot though and had a fair amount of skill and vision. Like any left winger at Latics though, he will need to learn the basic language skills such as "sod off from my wing and get in the middle Kes."
  8. A few seasons ago, Ronnie Moore could have emerged from his "office" and contributed with the wise words, "today, I will be mostly drinking vodka mixed with weedkiller".

  11. Irrelevant B_T as we won't be able to hear them due to the din coming from the Latics fans. 2008. The year that atmosphere returned to Boundary Park.
  12. It's jsslatic that I am worried about. I hope someone can take his shoelaces and belt off him in time.
  13. Contrary to popular belief, Fabian Yantorno will not be signing for Latics:-
  14. I was talking to Alan Hardy this morning about something unrelated. He mentioned that Bob had resigned earlier this week after receiving a fantastic offer from Mansfield which also happens to be closer to his home. He is very highly thought of in footballing circles which is why Mansfield have offered a great package to secure his services. Latics are genuinely sorry to see him go and Alan's words to me were that he is brilliant at his job. It is nothing to do with cost cutting nor is his departure down to anything performance related. Quite the opposite in fact.
  15. I believe his move to Mansfield was personal choice due to his home location in Sheffield as opposed to Latics cutting back and getting rid. From conversations that I have had in the past with people at the Club, Bob was very highly thought of and did a good job in difficult circumstances. I guess we don't get to see a lot of what he did - nor do we know what the scope of his role involves. He was Commercial Manager - not Marketing Manager and there is a big difference.
  16. A Mansfield supporting mate has just told me they've signed someone from us. Unfortunatley, it's not JP Kalala but Bob Gorrill. Gorrill Gone
  17. Those were my thoughts when I saw it announced on Sky a few minutes ago. He definitely is friendly with many at Latics and I wondered (and perhaps hoped) he may be interested in a bit of investment at Boundary Park. He's probably going to wait until it all goes horribly wrong under Shiniwatra though and then buy back Citeh for a pittance.
  18. Spot on Diego. Those words in bold above did not appear on the OS yesterday when this news was broken. Unnecessary negative spin from an organ meant to be a loyal partner and supporter of Latics. How much better it would have been to read "this loss of income could be negated by getting just an extra 50 pay-on-the day fans through the turnstiles for each League game". Doesn't take much effort to be positive rather than negative. Then again, I think the Club could have made more effort as well. I suspect that the sale of either Taylor or Eardley is likely though and perhaps we are being "readied" for that eventuality. As this thread shows, we can make up our own minds regarding the implications of Alan Hardy's comments. Generally speaking though, the people posting on here will make every effort to attend matches and wouldn't be put off by a simple statement whereas the casual Chron Reader could use the spin as a further reason to stay away. Mike Yarwood is on holiday by the looks of things and we know that Tony Bugby doesn't share his enthusiasm for Latics.
