I was in the Lookers upper, level with the 18 yard line and had a perfect view. I remember thinking it was a lovely pass and not something we often saw from Milligan & Henry - Redfearn maybe - as their jobs were to win it and get it wide to our full backs/wingers. I watched a lot of 1st division players with reputations with interest in our 1st season back in the top flight, and recall him having a touch of class. Paul Merson was another who I thought stood out at BP.

I remember his lovely through ball that lead up to QPR's consolation in this game though - as it was right in front of me, outside of right boot into the path of the 14..... deliciously weighted.

It was patently obvious to a layman that under Shez Holloway & Davies weren’t a good pairing... Richie has since said he thinks they are too similar.... when Doyle arrived, it was patently obvious to the layman that Doyle benefitted from Davies’ hold up play - big lump and mobile lad combo.... so when Davies (who I feel has been off his best for a while) was injured on Sat’day & Nazon was preferred to Holloway, I was left scratching my head. I hope he starts with Doyle at Oxford. There’s a player in there somewhere. Emile Heskey wasn’t profilic but he was an excellent foil for Michael Owen.

If the 4-4-2 brigade are in favour of playing two wingers who cross the ball for two strikers - one big lad who’s a proper handful & one nimble quick lad who can poach you a goal from scraps - then I’ll be the fkin cheerleader.
