  1. yes i think you're right and that would be more realistic. I'd decided how many points we needed and then where they were most likely to come from if we were going to have to get them.
  2. I expect it to be Crossley and i would probably go with it just but Fleming has looked fine to me and i wouldn't worry with him in and would expect him to be first choice at some point during the season probably after crossley gets injured and the fleming can't be shifted.
  3. For the last couple of seasons I've looked at the fixtures ahead and tried to plot what we have to do to get promotion (yes I know but it's better than working) In the past 7 years the following points totals have got second place 07/08-82 06/07-85 05/06-79 04/05-86 03/04-83 02/03-86 01/02-84 The higher points totals tend to come when someone runs away at the top e.g Wigan or Luton which i think may happen this year so I would say 85 should be the number to look at. I reckon this would mean 25 wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats So 4 sides who we will only get one point off from the 2 games against them Brighton, Huddersfield, Leicester, Leeds 7sides who we will get 3 point off from the 2 games against them Colchester,MKD,Northampton,Millwall,Scunthorpe, Southend,Peterborough, 6 sides who we will get 4 points off from the 2 games against them Bristol R,Carlisle,Stockport,Cheltenham, Tranmere,Walsall 6sides who we will get 6 points off from the 2 games against them Crewe,Hartlepool, Leyton O, Hereford, Yeovil, Swindon The problem last year were the 6 pointers I predicted which just didn't happen as we really struggled against some of the lower teams. The bonuses were against Leeds,Swansea and Tranmere. The crap start always meant we were about 6/7 points behind where i predicted we should be throughout the season and that ended up being the defecit more of less. Anyway lets see what happens, can't wait!
  4. Good point! and i have the same failing memory as you. Yes i think you are right and i remember being a bit gob smacked at the time that the deal seemed to have been done officially as it were. So if it was done with one deal at that time it might have been done with the other. Would be nice to get an extra few quid in for TTA but as Sheff U and Colin were involved I'm not going to get too excited.
  5. If there was a sell on clause in that deal, which i would doubt, I wouldn't have thought the beneficiary was the club - if such arrangements are legal.
  6. Brentford at home on a tuesday night about 5 years ago. An absolute cracker of a game with not a bad foul all night and that man did his level best to ruin it. Should have been suspended after that and never allowed to ref another game!! God 5 years on and he still makes my blood boil!
  7. yep lots of sense in this but I think most people do respect this apart from the occasional one or two, The main oint i'm making which is my 'high horse' one and the one I'm getting all the flak for is why do people have to be abusive nd why do people misbehave? I know I'm a pain and am obviously too old now to be allowed to go but me and the girl ( and the missus) will sneak in on Saturday and you can all swear like f**k as long as I'm not near that bl***ding drum! KTF chaps and thanks for the lively debate. Just going to lick my wounds.
  8. Its the football. Football is about passion, rivalry, emotions, ecstasy, disappointment, anger, dejection, enjoyment..... Really couldn't agree with you more, no point in going otherwise! But why do we have to sing I'm a bastard etc I just think it's not necessary, I don't want it anaesthetised(?) and my lass can sing ee aye ee aye ee aye o with the best of them but why can't we behave? Sorry if I've annnoyed folk, I'll stick to less controversial topics tomorrow like WTF is Taylor doing at left wing.
  9. Just putting second tin hat on. Agree with almost every word! Of course I knew and she knows too, she will chuckle and know telling mum will cause us both grief. Time and a place maybe but why ? Shouldn't we just know to behave ourselves? A lot of this is me knowing I'm fighting a losing battle here but we have to strive for perfection don't we? just going looking for another tin hat.
  10. Sorry for the delay in response but just been to put my tin hat on , as i said before I thought i might get some stick on this. I agree with a lot of what you say, the naughtiness and the atmosphere and the fact that people do tone it down - usually if I ask them to they do. I might be asking a lot here but why do we need to eff and jeff and call for people to die or whatever? I do think we should accomodate children, I also don't think football grounds should be an adult environment as mentioned in the reponse above, we must encourage kids (otherwise Smalley and Eardley would never be allowed in the team). I've let off steam at the footy for years now so I agree with you on this but do we need to be abusive?(please refer to the above where i admit that I have been abusive in the past ) I don't think me or the club want people who swear not to come, just that it might be a nicer and more welcoming environment if they didn't - and here I''m talking more about about abusive songs and chanting rather than the occasional' FFS Eardley your mates in the other stand now' Also i'm not saying the kids will be abused, just that they might benefit from not hearing a load of c**p sung every week. Also slighltly taken out of context I know but 'If I see a child I will cut it down' I know she's only 8 but she 's a big lassie! KTF
  11. Rather surprised by your response mate. If you were to sit next to an 8 year old (or any one for that matter ) on a train or the cinema would you think it ok to eff and jeff? Also as a latics fan would you prefer to see the support increase or your 'personal rights' prevail?
  12. This topic was always going to provoke some interesting responses. Are you suggesting I don't take my 8 year old daughter to games? if so how do we build our fanbase for the future. She went to several away games last year as well where the language is often worse. Again, should I not take her or should grown men ( the usual offenders) be able to control their drink intake and their mouths? Look forward to your response.(edit: not just aimed at you KH but others who have posted on this topic) On a more positive point we went to pickup her season ticket today and she was given a Boundary Blues scarf (very nice) and free. Yet another example of the club doing well. BB membership is £50 for a season ticket the scarf and 2 brilliant parties. But then again maybe they should just tell her to F off?
  13. if memory serves wasn't there a game away against Sheff United where we were 2 up after 5 minutes and lost 7-2 or was it just a nightmare that I can remember?
  14. don't think they've had the drawing out of a hat, sorry, tribunal yet
  15. So Hills is the trialist mentioned on the OS I suppose. Does this mean the end of the line for Phillips then?
  16. Blackpool have done a rather strange/interesting (depending on your point of view) deal here and they have someone almost signed up. hmmmm...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ool/7536333.stm double post sorry.
  17. agree wholeheartedly with what Diego says. Well done lads and all the very best of luck. And the rest of you fine people get donating!!
  18. Yes, after the pub I used to sup in up there. there was a good pub crawl 9(ou needed a driver) where you could do 6 pubs called the Farmers Arms within a 15 miles radius(excluding the sea) They were an unimaginative bunch.
  19. It's not the site Bob, it's the town. I lived and worked there between 79 and 82, had season tickets for both footy and rugby. Town at the end of a 28 mile cul de sac. There are villages around there with only 4 surnames in the phone book.
