  1. If that was going to happen, wouldn't the press already know about it? I suspect that any takeover/ investment will of the scale of Mike Newton joining the board of directors for a short time & a kickabout in training with any signings coming from the pool of trialists (so not needing to be made today).
  2. I know it's no biggie but it'd have been nice if he could have backed himself to score a penalty.
  3. Same figures that I heard (all around the same time as we were being offered less for the club captain by Scunthorpe).
  4. That's how it's set out to work but then I believe that we sold a couple of players (from u10/u12 level) last season for tens of thousands which is more than we'd be entitled to according to the rules. (Source: Parents of other kids at the club who had been told by coaching staff)
  5. Decent money on offer for winning games in the Checkatrade trophy regardless of the crowd size so we'll only see those kind of changes if Sheridan thinks it will definitely improve on the current showings.
  6. He didn't get offered a deal with Boyling playing most of the youth team games from January onwards.
  7. I've no time for any flag at a football match that isn't football related. Hopefully, this one won't be seen again.
  8. There are several videos of my 10 year old lad on YouTube that make him look better than Lev Yashin when, in all likelihood, he may not be. It's very easy to throw a package of 'best bits' together these days - he can even make them himself.
  9. I don't think he'd be what we need unless we played Stalybridge every week. They hit the crossbar & post without him reacting to either & he seemed slow to react generally as well as being quiet throughout. If Liverpool loaned him out, I don't see how we could offer him first team football.
  10. If Barraclough moves on, I reckon Shirtliff will come back or, even more likely, Crossley.
  11. Doesn't even look good enough in the warm ups. There was a fair bit of surprise amongst GK coaches who knew him when he was signed as it was quite a few levels above where they'd expect him to be.
  12. Without wishing to sound harsh, we're doing well in a lower category, regional division against the likes York City's u18. Even at youth level, that's some way below what what will make us money. If they've not looked up to it when pitted against first team players in training or reserve friendlies then why use squad wages to sign them?
  13. There was an unadvertised petition the month before (which was sorted) and this one won't be satisfied until the next court hearing at the start of May. Some would be surprised at how many football clubs have the same petitions served against them when it's only every now & again, the press seem to highlight them.
  14. I don't see why we shouldn't be able to to beat any of the teams we have to play. They're all League One teams and more than capable of serving up dross.
  15. Agree. In his pomp (albeit when he'd moved on), he was one of the best in the world, never mind the country. Whilst he was here, he made remarkable stops on a regular basis & won us many points in the process. Ripley has been fantastic for us & without him, we'd be cut adrift so he's definitely one of the best we've had but I think any talk of full England caps is a bit much. Although it's improved a bit since the season started, his distribution isn't anywhere near what's required at that kind of level & at 24, there's no pathway to him to integrate into the setup against the other options.
  16. Pretty sure the comment was more of a rebuke/ threat after what the OAFC statement had insinuated about him. I doubt very much that an article on Brassbank would be interesting enough to spend any time on (especially given that Ian Herberts(?) already wrote one on our demise a few months ago).
  17. Not gone down well with some... https://www.facebook.com/gordon.sawers.73/posts/129105454274974
  18. It was. (Although at the time the line up was announced he was deemed to be a square peg in a round hole )
  19. Even as one of the most lefty, liberal, Remainer snowflakes I know (that has felt very uncomfortable with 'Oooh Roger Palmer' when directed at stewards, etc), even I think that's a madness. The noise is in line same as what Joe Root & Luke Donald get when they make an appearance. Surely Ngoo gets that privilege because of his fairly standout athletic style which makes it a bit of event when he's coming on & the direct opposite emotion to that when Paul Green and Ollie 'sodding' Banks do the same.
  20. You could see yesterday that McLaughlin wasn't sure where to position himself at times but the finish was a confident one. If if just gets himself within 10 yards of Holloway to Ngoo when they're battling in the air he might get himself a few more chances. Pretty sure Kevin Philips was a converted full back who went on to do well.
  21. Ngoo's awkwardness won it in the end and it was a great illustration of what Holloway provides. Agree with the quoted post. I couldn't fathom bringing Green on (unless he thought they were skipping through our midfield too easily) but Ngoo was ready to be subbed after his 20 minutes of mayhem.
  22. In the game against Peterborough, Holloway was clearly a little rusty having not played regular football for some time but having spent the first half of the season watching Erwin & McKay fanny about the pitch, he was several time more effective than those two immediately. He wins things high up the pitch (which not many others seem to be able to do) and can use the ball (which not many others seem to be able to do).
  23. He did well yesterday but lost points from me for trying to usher supporters off the pitch instead of encouraging them to carry the team out of the stadium like at the end of Escape To Victory.
