  1. Our fan base (and the fact that just over 12 months ago we didn't pay players on time) would suggest that we don't actually have a huge budget to work with. However, unless anyone is actually privy to the details of our current payroll (and that of other clubs) then it seems to be sheer guesswork to say that player A is on a good or bad wage. If I had to say one way or another though, I should think they'll actually be on less that you expect.
  2. Maybe the case is that we are now (providing the initial deadline has passed) effectively looking for replacements for the players whose contracts had expired. If we find someone and sign them, then obviously we won't have a vacancy in their position and they'll be forced to look elsewhere. If, come some time in July, we haven't been able to find suitable replacements and nor has the player found a club they want to join then I'm sure everyone would be OK with seeing if a deal could be done - maybe even on reduced terms. What I'm not sure would happen is the cub to announce any time soon that they are no longer interested in resigning players. Don't see what it would achieve.
  3. Tounkara would be a great signing if he was able to perform consistently to a level around 80% of his cameo against Carlisle where he was immense. He is still a young, developing player which makes it ridiculous that any shortcomings in his game as of 20-odd months ago are being highlighted. I'd take him over an unproven non-league striker every time. It's also fair to say that he'd meet the running through a wall criteria.
  4. Bouzanis would be a fine replacement. Spending any money on a transfer fee would be wasteful though it would go towards general running costs anyway.
  5. Still a long summer ahead and PD hasn't even had a chance to assess player performances in Euro 2012.
  6. If he were to be sold , we'd probably get no more than £60-70k which would be used to make up the shortfall in ticket receipts for next season.
  7. Might have a leaky tap at home or be buying a car. Equally might be an alien looking to take over the planet forcing all human kind to mine for diamonds to power him mother ship.
  8. More often than not, I'd be happy if we remember how to score let alone celebrate
  9. I think I've spotted the flaw in this scheme. In this league, we will play 442 or 4411. It's a limitation of the majority of players that float around at this level in that they'll get plaudits for 'doing their jobs'. The minute you try and change their jobs, there'll be carnage. Blood and tears everywhere.
  10. I voted 5. Switching to 7 gives the wealthier clubs more reason to enlarge their squads with better players whereas our bench would need to be filled up with school kids & competition winners.
  11. Their offspring may be average but the word I'd use for the likes of Ritchie, Barrett, Warhurst et al would be exceptional. In their pomp they were amongst the finest playing football in the country as proven by the results. As for Preston, let them sign another dozen before we sign one - doesn't matter one iota. As long as we're able to get the vast amount of our squad together before the Portugal camp then we've not missed out. SC has already said that the bargains will be around in a few weeks. For free agents to accept deals now they must be getting a fair wedge.
  12. I hope, after they've tackled Syria, the United Nations turn their attention to goal music and send a firm message of worldwide condemnation on this outrage.
  13. It was often said that the biggest advantage that the plastic pitch offered us was the fact that it got into the minds of opposition players before a ball was kicked. They knew they'd have to prepare in a different way and ready themselves to face a different set of problems. Is there any fineprint or loophole that we could exploit to make the pitch triangular? Other league one teams could then be free to sign whichever tricky wingers or overlapping full-backs they like, they wouldn't have anywhere to go at BP.
  14. Our project is in full swing. I can't name any sources but I have it on excellent authority that Corney has recently been spotted in WHSmiths in Manchester buying 2 hard backed folders, some value priced clear paper wallets and one of those 4 colour clicky pens. When challenged on the till as to whether he would also like a Dairy Milk, my source says that he snapped back, "Certainly Not!!" before pausing and then sheepishly admitting that he better had as Newton was also turning up to the "brainstorming session" with his set of post-it notes and a couple of tins.
  15. According to Matt Chambers on Twitter the current figure is £7,600 per month for the next 7 years. When the Olympic torches start appearing in the area, I say we nick 'em and flog 'em.

  17. I was under the impression that the charge was just being made to us rather than across the FL but I do find it odd that OAFC (2004) would have to pay for something accrued 20 years ago, though I have no real knowledge on these things (This despite working for a company that deals in business administrations day in day out. Ask me to program something though - I'm aces at that.)
  18. Keiron Lee signed for Sheff Wed SC slags off agents No news on the other out-of-contract players signing - talks still ongoing with Simpson and Wes. CT will most likely be off as expected but no club lined up at the moment. Is wearing a jumper today with a white shirt. Clearly the first thing the staff do when SC rocks up is turn the heating off. We're looking for bargains but is fairly relaxed that they'll be available around the end of July Will be some changes at boardroom level - to be announced in a few weeks Pre-season camp to Portugal being planned We have to pay £100K to a Football League pension scheme accrued from players & staff 20 years ago. He's not happy about it. Wipes out a quarter of the season ticket money.
  19. Depends which version of him we sign. In his second loan period, he initially looked off the pace and made no impression. This, in part, could be explained by a lack of match action over the rest of the season though. However, if we were able to sign the version that came on against Carlisle and ripped their defence a new one, then that would be superb. Even 80% of that performance, on a consistent basis, would be brilliant for us.
  20. Can you remember what the story was? Was it most or all of our players that came through them? It may be that the list of players that we end up looking at would be a sub-set of this list when sorted by the 'contract' column. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/stellar-football-ltd/details/berater_190.html
  21. Didn't someone on here identify that pretty much all our players shared the same sports agency? I can't remember what the title of the post was but if that's true then who we sign would be dictated by who we get offered rather than who we're think could do well from all the available players.
  22. It's no secret that finances at football clubs up and down the country are in a state. The positive from this, is that there are not going to be more than 10/15 clubs that have a huge competitive/ financial advantage over us at this level. Many clubs will only be offering short term deals just like many clubs will be scrapping their reserve teams. It means that every season there will be flood of out of contract players though, as agents will only make real money by moving their players on, players that stay at any club for longer than 2 or 3 years will be he exception rather than the rule.
  23. These things happen by design rather than by accident. Due to finances, the club have already stated that short-term contracts are what we'll be offering going forward and, if it means that we lose players then so be it. There are many other clubs doing the same thing and I'd rather us do that than spend money we haven't got.
