  1. @astottie that's not to say we aren't interested in your observations.
  2. On your travels if you find a rb/rwb and maybe a manger let us know. I think we may have enough strikers if someone knew how to use them or get the ball to them.
  3. I doubt he will be given his marching orders today. Plenty wanted Reid and Fondop. After Fondop's first booking my thought was he is off at HT, maybe DU thought the same... Think it is harsh to expect DU to pull him after two minutes. However it is a results business. Less than one point a game is relegation form. Rude said earlier half a season to balance things out but there are no great teams in this division. 10 games was my mark but expecting 15 points. Three wins and a draw from the next 4 anyone?
  4. wasn't it more a case of implying we had a good day because we took a point off the favourites? it is expected to come across better than 'they weren't up to much but we had nothing and were lucky to sneak a point'
  5. that's a fair point Lags,- don't think there is really long term in football its all about the near term. I feel it is a bit different to when he was here previously. Then everything was short term. Now there is a developing supporting infrastructure. You can imagine Frank has a vision of 'the Oldham way' and that future management and staff recruitment will be focused on people who fit that vision. (I'd like that to include players too but I'm not sure I see that yet) Still will be results driven though perhaps with a little more time. I accept the clock is ticking for DU unless he delivers clear consistent improvement. Pete Wild coming back? I'm sure some here know his personal circumstances but if I said to the Mrs I was going to have another crack at a place that sacked me/ made me ill it would be hard sell no mater how much I wanted it. I think it will need more than a payday but I've never spoken to the guy so its just an opinion on a forum.
  6. I think many of us appreciate your passion and understand ( a bit) of your personality. RHB was trying to be helpful about the situation down there and chatting about players. Your -shall we say 'unfiltered' responses- could easily have been seen as needlessly aggressive.
  7. Don't take it too personally RHB. Many of us appreciate local insight. Monty is a little unusual and perhaps doesn't moderate everything he types. I'd been on here a while before I understood a single one of his posts. Now I sometimes worry that I do understand some of them.
  8. to be fair this 'we've pretty much got a team and will pick up the last piece of the jigsaw when its right' is so different from 'the first match is next week and we have 4 strangers and two kids signed so let's panic' that it does take some getting used to.
  9. Cheers Mick, I guess he will appear as ' trialist A' in someone else's friendlies then.
  10. I seem to remember gates dropping from about 6k to just over 3k when Jimmy F was sacked. Had been on a gradual decline since promotion to division 2. It was a slow climb back to a booming boundary park.
  11. 1-Norman, 13 Hudson, 24 2 14 25-Reid 3-Kitching 15 26 4-Hogan 16 27-Couto 5-Hobson 17 6-Shelton 18-Tollit 7-Willoughby 19 8-Lundstram* 20-Hope 9-Fondop 21-Sutton 10-Nuttall 22 11-Ward 23 12- 24 *Lundstram 8 on the club site- but so is Gardener So IF our observers have got it right it looks like the above. IF these numbers mean anything (rather than try that shirt it fits...) do we think 1-11 are our starting 11 (with the obvious No 2 question?)
  12. Thanks Dick, perhaps their under one roof claim only applies to the kit provided for first teams and their replicas etc are outsourced. Unlike many other bespoke teamwear brands, every step of our production process is done under one roof - this cuts manufacturing lead times - and means we have the capability to manufacture bespoke kits within 21 days Shame- be nice to support some UK manufacturing
  13. Their website suggests their kits are made in house in Royton. Anyone know if their tee shirts and hoodys are made there too?
  14. that's my impression from the article on the club website The Girl’s & Women’s club operates as a separate entity to Oldham Athletic but work closely in partnership to represent Girls and Women playing football under the club name and badge, representing Oldham Athletic every time they play! The CEO quote does suggest that there will be an open age team fully associated with the club in time. Probably depends on funding. IIRC Yovil had a successful women's team in the precurser to the wsl but on small crowds had no chance once the big teams started splashing the cash.
  15. Good on the lad. Hopefully means when he gets picked up by the greedy league he is still under contract and so goes for a big fee.
  16. So I think we are saying he is under contract to the end of June and the club could enforce the original option. It appears his agent thinks he is worth much more. His agent needs to earn his money- find him a new club on more money after the option expires but he can't sign until after the option exercise date. I'm sure there will be some clubs doing the annual 'crap I need a new squad in a month' dance we are so familiar with from seasons past. I'm less sure they will be throwing good money around. If he signs before end of June can we exercise the option and demand a fee? Or do we just say good riddance? Either way I'd agree with the posters above- we only want players who are committed.
  17. Rude is right. There are a surprising number of constraints beyond the obvious 'close by clubs at home on the same day'. Clubs can be 'paired' with other clubs on request so that only one of them is at home. This can be for practical reasons eg they share stewards, or maybe even grounds from time to time. I think there are examples of 'paired clubs' where the smaller club is hoping to pick up fans from the better supported team when the better supported team is away. The pairs can be daisy chained so club A might be asked to be paired with club B who have asked to be paired with Club C etc. I understand there is an attempt to minimize travel over the Christmas break although it might not feel like that if you are the closest club in the league to Plymouth, Carlisle or Norwich etc I think there is also a Transport Police review looking at flows of fans at key stations The leagues have different numbers of games and there are international breaks etc You could write a programme to do this but you would have to make significant changes each year once the playoffs were decided.
  18. not 60 but Northwich Victoria FA Cup 4th round- switched from their place and the 1990 semifinals.
  19. That's not very nice. She hasn't posted a lot recently I wonder are you the reason?
  20. I seem to recall Warhurst was agitating for a move- could be wrong though it was half a lifetime ago. Redfearn I agree- workrate and goals from outside the box very positive. I don't recall MacDonald doing a great deal.
  21. Kilcline, Pointon, Currie, Sharp...... Its an unpopular view but I think Big Joe lost the plot somewhat when he had cash to spend rather than collecting players who wanted to succeed but weren't rated by their clubs. Perhaps there was other stuff going on but we were relegated with a poorer team than the one we were promoted with.
  22. I'm pleased for them. I think it will be hard for them in the greedy league and careful management will be required so that they aren't completely broken when they get relegated. Success from here is probably getting a few seasons in not all being relegation dogfights with a few great results. The only downer is all the 'just the second* team to go from national league to premier league' comments we will have to listen to in 2030 when we get back to the premier league. assuming Stockport don't get there before us.
