  1. If a big side does come calling chances are he will be off. Sitting in a premier league 'stockpile' for a few years will earn him more than most of us will see in a full working life. Isn't the question more ' what can AL do to avoid just getting token compensation ?' Does giving him a professional contract give us more leverage- even if it is on a modest amount?
  2. Handy timing I think the cutoff date for a suspension for 5 cards was yesterday, it now takes 10 until sometime in March. Only our long list of crocks a problem.
  3. Chance for us to relive our giant killing days against higher division opposition, take your pick Fleetwood, Accrington, Burton?
  4. three home games in six days in 1979, (4 games in 8 days), 3 programmes cost more than my pocket money thought we might have had a chance against Spurs but Ardiles was something else 24 Feb 1979 West Ham United v Oldham Athletic L 3-0 League Division Two 26 Feb 1979 Oldham Athletic v Leicester City W 3-1 FA Cup 28 Feb 1979 Oldham Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur L 0-1 FA Cup 03 Mar 1979 Oldham Athletic v Sheffield United D 1-1 League Division Two
  5. If you do chose junction 7 watch out- the entry back on to the north bound carriage way is a right fork into the middle of the 'roundabout'- something unusual that catches out the unwary. I'd agree avoiding some of the M5 roadworks would be well worth it.
  6. It wouldn't have taken much to be looking forward to another league one season. there is a long list of 'if only's' - a goal keeper capable of making a save in the first 9 games -full backs who don't get sent off with minutes to go when winning 1- nill -Doyle not being injured -Davies having some professionalism in half a season -Wellens having a clue -any of 8 outfield players giving a toss in the last few weeks I'm sure you guys can think of more. When I look at that list with a half full glass I see a potentially better keeper, a young keen defence, a coach with experience and maybe the makings of a team. Time will tell if we have enough goals in the team. Either way whats done is done- here's to 3 points a 5pm.
  7. ok thx- possibly an investment for the future then
  8. perm or loan? As regards Graham I've no opinion/ knowledge of him so have to trust Bunn's judgement. Generally I'd be happier bringing in youngsters we would keep and develop, or are to fill a a particular hole in the squad. This looks like we might be developing someone's youngster at the expense of ours?
  9. I know nothing about whats going on but I could see a forth option - maybe talking to your senior pro about your plans makes sense- provides a sense check and shows respect. I've done the same in my work life.
  10. I'm not so sure about that. Seem to remember losing 3-5 at home to an already relegated Hereford in about 76/77, and a few other no one cares games in subsequent seasons. Remember others where the opposition cared more than our lot. Losing heavily to City with Dickov running around like a wasp.
  11. Unfortunately many of them don't care. A season here, a season there. Club goes down the pan they probably get a gig elsewhere. Bosman has a lot to answer for. Not sure it's a coincidence that the two lads who scored at Northampton are players who have grown up here and have some affinity for the club.
  12. Strange isn't it. After the farce of the last couple of close seasons you'd think that line up would have us in a better place. I'm not really there. Lincoln and Carlisle should serve as warning it won't be a cake walk. I'm good with the youngsters in defense. If we could bring 2 or 3 young ones on each year , keep some and sell one each season having enjoyed watching them develop for £1mill we'd be on our way. Don't think Placide is good enough - shots saved vs goals conceded isn't great. Sometimes it felt like 'they shoot they score' even if it was on the follow up Midfield needs work. Defense all too often exposed. The youngsters can work hard but eventually someone gets a shot off. Not sure if it was in this thread or elsewhere- but I like the idea of two wide players- protect the back four, and give lots of width on the attack. Milligan and Henry weren't the most talented we've ever had but once they got the ball all they had to do was knock it ten yards sideways and there'd be a winger of a marauding fullback to take it up the field. Don't see enough goals in the retained strikers even with enough wide players. On the plus side- goal keeper, 2 wing backs (maybe Nepo and McL?) and a target man and we are almost there?
  13. Didn't Milford once get in the way of an opposition clearance which then dropped at the feet of one of ours leading to a chant of 'Ooh Roger MIlford..'?
  14. Dave- you are right when thinking about the leds used in typical lighting applications- say in a house where any heat is a waste (in summer). The SGL website however suggests they can tune the output between visible and infra red so you can have light, heat or some combination of both. I do think a locally fabricated rig using confiscated cannabis lamps might be the way to go though. If its only a relatively small strip that is a problem.
  15. Was at Pride Park for a work thing a few weeks back. They had a rig like this http://sglconcept.com/en/products/grass-lighting/led200-ir.html running late into the evening. Their website says Burton and Chesterfield have them ( as well as a lot of the more monied clubs) so maybe aren't that expensive. Maybe not the top priority but...........
  16. Both Vic Halom and John Hurst were carrying plenty of weight in my early seasons, didn't stop them being effective. This season we are a 3rd division side, maybe by the end of next we will be looking up. For the next 4 months we've got what we've got, celebrate the win, have a day off like the squad. Check in later hoping Scunthorpe, Bristol and Charlton have had a good day- we could be in charge of our own destiny for the first time in months by 5 pm
  17. A point away against 3rd place who have lost 5 all season- most would have taken that at 2o'clock Without the point today would look grim losing ground on Walsall, Northampton, Blackpool,, another game in hand for Dale and Fleetwood.
  18. Whilst the takeover drags on its all going to be down to money. If any of the parent clubs want a contribution to wages we are probably stuffed by the salary cap. I'm starting to think beating Shrewsbury is important. Don't know if we can use all £50k 'prize' money or just 60% but even £30k would be a useful contribution over 5 months. Might let us partly pay for a loan or even register a new signing. It upsets me that I'm starting to comtemplate the whole checkatrade money thing. Lets hope AL gets the deal over the line tomorrow and has the wherewithal for a 'donation'
  19. If you go past the ground and turn right at the big roundabout there is a garage with a lot of space -charged £5 last year if I recall
  20. I won't be there- stuck 100 miles away hosting the in laws- but I'd just like to say thank you to those who are trying to do something. I hope it goes well followed by a thumping win.
  21. Fair play, I could have described their recent poor form in a better way.I'm starting to worry we will be the catalyst for their turnaround! Can you imagine the melt down on here if we picked up 4 points from 15 having been top.
  22. Anything is possible If I look at the play off teams- I'd include Shrews who are plummeting and Portsmouth who are flying- then the question is can we catch any off them? Over the last 5 Shrews 4 points difference to us -4 Blackburn 15 +7 Bradford 9 +1 Scunthorpe 12 +4 Charlton 5 -3 Portsmouth 12 +4 So we are only making ground on two. At current rates we'd catch them after 36 and 41 games. So we could be 'in the mix' We could get something from all of our next 5, they all look 'winnable'- maybe Plymouth the hardest given their current form. Shrews collapse must end sometime though. It all hinges on January for me. Keep or improve the squad- top half finish flirt with playoffs. But until January I'm just going to enjoy the ride.
  23. Not quite accurate. The threshold for suspension moves to 10 from 5 until March. Some one on 4 yellows now could get another 6 before suspension, but someone with none could get 10. There is a third cut off later in the season too. http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/discipline/player-essentials Whilst looking at this I noticed we've also got the second worst discipline record? http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/discipline/fairplay
