  1. Of the many posts attacking the club/referee/players/NL, I'm sorry BP but this one takes the biscuit. Why on earth do you think players not wanting to play on a frozen pitch undermines their clapping the fans, or shows they couldn't care less? Of course they would want to play, but you have to balance that against the risk of serious injury. No doubt 50 years ago they would have stubbed out their fags on the frozen pitch, downed a quick winter warmer and come out to play, but times have changed and the game has moved on. More broadly, I get the disappointment, particularly for Boreham Wood fans (and let's drop the jokes about the 2 of them etc, however few there might be is irrelevant) but far from a shambles it's surely the case that every effort was made to get the game played and sadly it wasn't possible. It will be rearranged, nobody has died, and everyone can hopefully find something else to do with their free time this afternoon. It's not the end of the world. Bad weather happens, it's December!
  2. I certainly didn't enjoy the finger where the sun doesn't shine (which in any case reported normal ) but it didn't matter a jot in the scheme of things!
  3. 100% agree with this. I had my prostate whipped out in June after being diagnosed in January. I was lucky - they caught it early and a few months on I’m pretty well back to normal. I didn’t have any symptoms other than a PSA that was creeping upwards, though not particularly high. First few days after the op were a bit challenging but the NHS has been fantastic. So yes, get checked asap after you hit 50 and don’t take no for an answer (some GP surgeries are reluctant to do PSA tests at that age but it’s your right).
  4. I hear what you’re saying, but I’m not sure there is much point in complaining about people needing to be banned and at the same time effectively banning yourself? You always have the ignore/block option. If you’re really worried about free speech in our country, try living in Russia or China, though I don’t recommend it.
  5. Good luck with your recovery and take things easy, it’s a major op
  6. Barry Fry was told it had to be on one continuous circuit of the pitch when he wanted to lift the St. Andrew’s “curse”
  7. Oh dear Even by your standards, you've put up a remarkably asinine post there. Let's recap, shall we? Your "point" was to say "Barnet away in the Conference", clearly implying that it wasn't a win to get too excited about. We'd just comprehensively beaten the team 2nd in the table, on their own ground, but don't let that fact worry you, eh? And the "Conference" hasn't been the "Conference" for some time, but never mind. Disjointed pointed out to you it's the same division that we are in. In other words, your "point", other than a statement of the glaringly obvious, had no need whatsoever to demean what was an excellent win. Clutch at straws all you like by trying to equate your silly and negative, petty spoiler with my summary of what I describe above as a bad result against Ebbsfleet (which you clearly didn't notice/ignored). Given the lamentable nature of many of your posts, I'm not sure you need to worry about lowering yourself - you can't get any lower
  8. You and Captain Doom & Gloom spectacularly miss the point. Had we lost 4-1 at home to an Ebbsfleet when we were in L1 or higher, you just might have a point. In case you haven’t noticed, we are in the same league as Ebbsfleet and it’s for a reason. There are some unbelievably hysterical posts on here (even by OWTB standards) following what is of course a bad result. They scored 3 in the last 10 minutes, we were chasing the game. Shouldn’t happen, but it does. MM learns a bit more about his squad and we move on. Solihull, 4th in the table, were thrashed 6-1 at Altrincham today - are they suddenly a bad team/relegation candidates? Of course not - it’s the nature of this league. Any team can beat any other and the overall standard is haphazard. Let’s all calm down, get a grip, and trust MM.
  9. I just hope video recorders never completely die out…..I’ve still got the VHS cassette of that match
  10. Must admit I’ve never been all that convinced about the need to worry about a player’s body language, though I suppose it might possibly affect his team mates and can clearly alienate some fans. I always thought Steve Archibald never looked very happy when he was playing. He wasn’t a prolific striker, but his record at Spurs and Barcelona wasn’t too bad.
  11. I’ve got fond memories of Portman Road though you won’t thank me for explaining why - that great day in 1991 when we clinched promotion to the First Division. It was a lovely sunny day I seem to remember, in more ways than one! Good luck this season.
  12. If anyone had actually said either comment, you might have half a point. But they didn’t, and you don’t have. You’re therefore left looking a bit silly, aren’t you.
  13. I’m reminded of something an Irish guy I worked with back in the 90s used to say. A great guy, full of life, always the life and soul. He was a huge RU fan, very knowledgeable about the game. I once asked him why he never got excited about the five/six nations, even when things were looking up for Ireland. He looked me straight in the eye and said, they’ve broken my heart too many times. We were both youngsters then (well ok, in our thirties) and nowadays when Latics lose, I still get upset but it’s no longer life and death, and I don’t get to see them week in week out as I once did. I see your point about fans being so up and down, but in a way I admire that, and it makes me envious. And don’t forget, we’ve had 30 odd years of winning nothing. It’s understandable that there is a desperation for success, hence the reactions that you mention.
  14. He was unbelievably bad, wasn’t he. I was still in shock over him not giving a penalty when Maguire knocked over the Macedonian player, but giving one against Lewis was just farcical.
  15. I couldn’t disagree more. A friend who supports Southampton said it was winning the FL Trophy in 2010, with all the Wembley razzamatazz, that kick started their revival. They won promotion from L1 the following season and from the Championship the season after that. It’s 30+ years since we won anything, so the FA Trophy needs to be taken seriously.
